Chapter 396 - 395: Slaughter in the Cave
’There are over sixty Kobolds here. It’s impossible to get to all of them. I’m going to peek at the entrance to the inner cave first. I’ll come back out and take care of these Kobolds later.’
While waiting for the Poison to take effect, Dorn continued deeper into the cave.
Because Colin’s Darkvision was limited, he couldn’t tell what was happening over there.
After a moment, Dorn’s voice came again.
’It’s an altar to the Mother of Evil Dragons inside. There are a few Cultists in here too. The bastards are inside getting their gear ready. We don’t have much time!’
’Then let’s make our move. Let’s take out as many Kobolds as we can.’
As he replied, Colin moved to the edge of the chamber and looked at the loudly snoring Kobolds. He drew Burning Blood with one hand, and with the other, he reached into his component pouch, his fingers pressing on the Mica Plate inside.
’Although his Armor didn’t make much noise when he moved, it wasn’t completely silent. It was best to stay at a distance for now and prepare for the trouble that was about to erupt.’
Kase and Dorn, who had emerged from the inner cave, walked into the midst of the Kobolds.
One holding a Short Spear and the other a Dagger, the two began to quickly end the lives of the Kobolds.
The Poison had now taken effect. The Kobolds didn’t even have the strength to cry out. What was once a safe den had instantly transformed into a slaughterhouse reeking of blood.
Just then, an orange glow suddenly appeared from within the chamber.
Using the light, Colin immediately took out the Mica Plate and began Casting his spell.
"What is this? Dammit, get up, you lazy, crawling beasts!"
Just as the emerging Cultist screamed, Colin and Ale completed their Casting.
Shatter and Fireball Technique shot out at the same time.
A ball of fire bloomed inside the chamber, its scorching Flames sweeping outward.
At the same time, a deafening sound erupted and reverberated throughout the chamber. Dust rained down from the ceiling, forming several gray streaks in the air.
The groggy Kobolds had to face the powerful Magic before they could even get up.
They were either blasted away or killed by the concussive force.
Between Dorn and Kase’s slaughter and the bombardment of Magic, the dozens of Kobolds were mostly dead or wounded. Only a dozen or so remained who could still move.
They drew weapons from their nests and charged at the few intruders in the cave.
At the same time, several Cultists wearing Leather Armor and wielding Scimitars appeared at the inner cave entrance. Small oil lamps hung from their waists, and they were trying to rush out to support the Kobolds.
Colin and Ale ignored them and continued Casting.
Kase, at the very front, entered a Frenzy state again. He drew his Giant Axe and desperately blocked the enemies charging toward his companions.
"Dawn Light, become my weapon!" Orelia shouted.
As soon as she spoke, countless points of light emerged from every corner of the cave, swiftly gathering in front of her and coalescing into a Nail Head Hammer that floated in mid-air.
Orelia charged forward with her shield raised, the Nail Head Hammer formed of faint golden light following close behind her.
’That must be the Tier Two Magic, Spiritual Weapon.’
While thinking, Colin’s movements were not affected in the slightest. He raised a hand and unleashed another spell.
A silvery-gray point of Spiritual Light appeared at the mouth of the cave.
Immediately after, a white spiderweb exploded outward from that point of Spiritual Light. It completely sealed the cave entrance, trapping the Cultists who were about to charge out and blocking the exit entirely.
’The Web spell works pretty well,’ Colin thought.
’If the enemy wants to get through, their only option is to burn the web, but doing so would inevitably burn...’
As he thought this, Colin clearly saw the Cultists stuck in the web deliberately pull off the oil lamps hanging from their bodies. The web instantly ignited upon contact with the Flame.
The surging Flames greedily licked at their prey, refusing to relent no matter how they struggled.
A chorus of screams immediately echoed throughout the chamber.
’These Cultists are truly fanatical,’ Colin thought.
Ale, standing beside him, raised her Bear Heart Staff. A silver light flashed at the cave entrance where the web had been, and a layer of slippery grease instantly covered the opening.
Grease replaced Web, continuing the mission of blocking enemy reinforcements.
While the two took turns Casting, the three fighters at the front had reached their limit.
They had all drunk shrinking Potions, making each of them only about a meter tall. They were barely any different in height from the Kobolds, so it was easy for the Kobolds to surround them, get around them, and go after the two more troublesome Casters in the back.
Three enemies charged toward Colin, attempting to stop their Casting.
These Kobolds had black scales, carried Wooden Shields and Short Spears, and wore Leather Armor. They looked tougher than the other Kobolds.
As they charged, they shouted some kind of slogan and thrust their Short Spears with all their might.
Colin tightened his grip on Burning Blood and entered his Sword Dance state.
He took a deep breath, using his Defense in Attack Specialty to shift all his energy into Defense.
A white gleam flashed from the sword’s edge, flowing through the air. It struck one Short Spear and redirected it to the side, using it to block the attacks of the other enemies.
Overwhelmed by his superior skill, the off-balance Kobold involuntarily shifted its Short Spear to the side. Together with Colin’s blade, it parried away the weapons of the other Kobolds.
With that one move, he had blocked the assault of three Kobolds.
Colin reverse-gripped a Flash Bomb from his Medicated Bandage and slammed it on the ground.
CRACK!
A searing white light, accompanied by the crisp cracking sound, burst in all directions.
The Kobolds in front of Colin had no way to mount any Defense. They could only howl in agony, covering their streaming eyes with their claws.
Kobolds, like the Drow, are creatures that live underground year-round, and their eyes are extremely sensitive to bright light.
Colin struck one of the Kobolds with a reverse-handed Emerald Flame Sword slash. The Flame energy exploded outward, blasting another Kobold to the ground.
The next moment, Ale raised her Bear Heart Staff high.
A biting cold wind began to rage through the cave. Water vapor in the air condensed into ice pellets, which were then driven by the gale to form layers of ice on the Kobolds.
And just like that, most of the remaining Kobolds became ice sculptures, frozen where they stood.
Meanwhile, a subconscious caution originating from her bloodline carefully controlled the surge of Magic Energy, preventing the Caster’s companions from suffering even the slightest bit of Damage.
When the Magic ended, not a single Kobold in the cave could move.
Colin looked at the cleared battlefield and breathed a sigh of relief.
But in the very next instant, the Cultists leaped out from the inner chamber’s entrance.
