I Have a Task Log

Chapter 356 - 355: Cleaning up the Battlefield

’There should have been a full set of weapons and armor here,’ he thought. ’Someone else who found this tomb must have taken most of it, leaving only this cloak.’

But then again, why did the secret door suddenly open?

Colin carefully recalled the course of the battle, then thought of the cloak’s special property: only a Murmurer could sense its Magic Radiance.

He felt it was probably because he’d approached the stone wall while in his Sword Dance state. Either that, or some unintentional movement had triggered one of the Dark Maiden’s rituals. The books he’d read weren’t very detailed on the subject.

So, the equipment in the tomb must all be exclusive to Murmurers. Even the tomb’s owner was probably an Elf who had mastered the Silent Sword Skill.

Looked at this way, the Silent Sword Skill was likely a technique developed by the followers of the Dark Maiden.

At this thought, Colin glanced inside the tomb again.

’It seems that most equipment for Murmurers can only be used by those who’ve mastered the Silent Sword Skill. If that’s the case, then those ancient Elven ruins are treasure troves filled with equipment just for me.’

It meant that in the future, he couldn’t just focus his investigations on the Surface; the rewards for delving into the Underworld might be far greater.

Of course, entering the unfamiliar Underworld would certainly be more dangerous.

That was something that required careful consideration and would have to wait.

At this thought, Colin suddenly remembered that strange tablecloth he’d gotten in Mist Harbor. ’Since it’s also related to Murmurers, maybe it’s an antique that was stolen from here!’

He turned and walked step by step toward his luggage.

"Mr. Colin, aren’t you going to rest for a bit?"

Orelia’s voice came from behind him. Colin replied as he searched, "I’m looking for something."

With that, he found the tattered cloth he had bought earlier.

Its Panel showed no changes. Unconvinced, Colin spread the cloth out to examine it closely and suddenly noticed some strange points of light on it.

These points of light were especially obvious on the black cloth, looking as if a handful of diamond dust had been sprinkled on it.

’It really changed?!’

Colin observed the entire black cloth carefully, but he couldn’t figure out the purpose of the strange starlight. They just looked like some insignificant decorations.

"What...?" Ale froze the moment she saw the starlight on the piece of cloth.

"Have you seen this kind of thing before? The starlight that appeared on it?"

Colin said, "I can feel that the Elf soul influencing me has a special connection to this cloth, which is why I paid for it back then. This thing might be a relic from this tomb that eventually made its way to Mist Harbor."

"I have indeed seen something like this. The starlight is a type of magical cipher. To be specific, it needs a professional to decipher it." Ale stared intently at the cloth. "I can’t read it right now."

"Then it’s best we give it to Edwin’s people. He can definitely find a professional."

As he thought this, Colin walked over to Kase and the others.

He glanced at the bodies on the ground and said, "Alright, it’s time to officially take stock of the spoils."

As soon as he said that, the spirits of the others immediately lifted.

Compared to the bizarre ruins they couldn’t understand, they were much more interested in equipment that could be sold for money.

"Mr. Colin, you’re still injured. You can leave clearing the battlefield to us," Lirel said.

"There are some things on these Drow that I’m quite curious about. I don’t think there’s any harm in taking a look." After speaking, Colin walked over to the fallen Drow Priest and glanced at the Snake Whip on the ground.

The core of the whip’s handle and the guard at the front were forged from metal. The grip was wrapped in pitch-black cord, and the metal parts had a strange, dark-silver sheen.

The venomous snake on the whip was much shorter now, and it was coiled up with its eyes closed, as if it were dead.

Lirel said, "It’s best not to touch such a foul object. It might harm you."

"The handle of this whip looks a bit strange," Colin said.

"That’s Refined Gold, a very expensive Magic Metal," Ale said. "When used on weapons or Armor, it makes the equipment indestructible."

"This is Refined Gold?" Colin took a closer look at the whip’s handle.

There are many precious materials in this world: Refined Gold, Mithril, Black Wood... These materials either have superior natural Attributes or strong Magic Affinity. Most top-tier Magic Equipment is made from these things.

The main advantage of Refined Gold is its extreme hardness; it’s practically the hardest metal in the world. Its disadvantage is that it weighs twice as much as ordinary steel.

The vast majority of so-called Refined Gold weapons or Armor are merely plated with a surface layer to ensure the equipment remains practical.

That being said, the Drows’ Spider Nest City is indeed rich in Refined Gold.

"Is there any way to preserve this?" Colin asked. "I want to take it to the Surface and melt it down into a Refined Gold Ingot."

Ale quickly said, "It’s best not to."

"This lady is right. The Gods place great importance on their followers’ Magical Artifacts, especially a Deity who likes to interfere in the Mortal World..." Lirel sighed, having said all she could. "We can offer you five hundred Gold Coins as compensation. It is our mission to purify this item, sir."

"Are you paying now?"

"I’ll write you a note. You can give it to our field personnel on the Surface or to the Five-Stringed."

"That works. If there’s any other equipment, I’ll sell it to you, too." Colin said, then walked over to the other Drow Warriors to take a look.

These Drow were wearing Studded Leather Armor. The surface was hard Leather Armor, while the back had spiderweb-shaped Armor Plates riveted to it, controlling the equipment’s weight while ensuring Defense.

The Drow that Kase and the others fought wore ordinary gear, but Colin’s opponent wore enchanted Armor, and his weapons also had simple Enchantments.

[Drow Studded Leather Armor / Ordinary Level Magic Armor]

[Defense: 4]

[Defense Enhancement: Defense +1]

[Fear of Sunlight: The equipment will automatically disintegrate after one hour of exposure to sunlight.]

This Armor looked a bit nicer than the ordinary version, as if it had been coated with a layer of black lacquer.

Additionally, this Drow Warrior’s two Scimitars were also Magic Weapons. The blades looked somewhat dark and gave off a very sharp feeling.

[Drow’s Scimitar / Ordinary Level Magic Weapon]

[Damage: 2-7]

[Sharp Darkness: Damage +1]

[Fear of Sunlight: The Enchantment will automatically dissipate after one hour of exposure to sunlight.]

Colin sighed as he looked at the "Fear of Sunlight" entry.

One of the reasons for the Drow’s combat strength is their low cost of producing Magic Weapons, but the downside is this Fear of Sunlight.

After some careful thought, Colin turned back to Lirel and asked, "Are you interested in buying this Drow equipment?"
