Chapter 370 - 369: Custom-Made Clothing
The group walked toward the courtyard enclosed by the apartment buildings.
At the main gate to the courtyard stood a guardhouse. Inside, a man in a City Guard uniform sat flipping through a newspaper.
"We’re the new Field Staff team that’s moving in. How are our rooms arranged?" Colin stepped forward and showed the Seal Ring on his finger.
After glancing at the Seal Ring, the City Guard picked up a cup of black tea from the table, took a sip, and then said, "Please wait a moment. Let me find the keys for you."
"There aren’t many vacancies in this apartment complex, so most of the rooms aren’t adjacent." The City Guard placed the keys on the desk. "My superiors also told me that if you’re unwilling to move in, you can refuse this arrangement."
"We’ve already come all this way, so of course we’re willing to stay," Colin said.
"Then let me tell you about the free benefits."
The City Guard cleared his throat and said, "Every morning, you’ll get a free newspaper and breakfast. Breakfast is goat’s milk, bread, and a slice of bacon. However, the apartments don’t have kitchens. At most, you can use the fireplace inside to boil some water.
"We have hot water all day because there’s a Fire Element trapped in the boiler. If the Fire Element escapes, we’ll need you to capture it and bring it back, free of charge."
"That shouldn’t be a problem." Colin took the keys.
The others gathered around to get a closer look at the room locations.
Although there were five rooms, only two were adjacent. The others were scattered across the three apartment buildings.
"By the way, didn’t you say you were going to keep living in the sewers?" Colin asked, looking at Dorn, who had inexplicably tagged along.
Dorn said resentfully, "I’m just here to check things out, in case you all see some other ’fresh new thing’ you can’t talk about."
"You really hold a grudge... In that case, we only need four rooms."
"Just kidding." Dorn waved his hand dismissively. "I’m here for the free set of clothes. You guys are going to get them today, right?"
"I believe so." After speaking, Colin handed one of the room keys back.
The four of them then casually took their keys, since no one was particularly concerned about where exactly they lived.
After the keys were distributed, the group decided to go check out their rooms.
They walked into the courtyard enclosed by the three apartment buildings.
The small courtyard contained four stables. Most of the ground was packed dirt, with only a few walkways paved with stone slabs.
Besides these, there was a well, a few racks for drying clothes, and some stone tables and benches in the corners of the courtyard.
Colin surveyed the apartment buildings as he walked.
On the upper floors, people were leaning against the railings, looking at the scenery outside. Most of them were human, but there were also some common Alien Races like Dwarves and Halflings.
A few Adventurers were currently gathered around a table, discussing something over a map. They looked like a party preparing to set out on a quest.
They immediately fell silent when they saw Colin’s group enter, their eyes fixed on the newcomers.
When the people on the upper floors saw the Half-Orc and Half-Demon in the courtyard, they began to point and whisper. Even the horses in the stables started to neigh loudly, as if expressing their displeasure.
The group was more or less used to this kind of reaction and went to their respective rooms.
As Kase and Orelia left one after another, Colin realized that only Ale was left beside him.
The two of them went to the top floor of an apartment building, where their rooms were directly across the hall from each other.
Colin shrugged and said, "Looks like we’re neighbors again."
"That’s a good thing," Ale nodded.
Colin walked to his door, unlocked it with the key, and took a look inside.
The conditions here were indeed a bit better than the Dock District. It was also a single bedroom with an attached washroom, but it was a size larger than the one in the Dock District, feeling like it was about twenty square meters.
Besides a table and chair, the room also had a moderately-sized bookshelf and an oak chest with a lock.
In a corner of the room was a small, brick-built fireplace that could be used to heat a kettle, with a stack of pine firewood beside it.
In front of the fireplace was a wooden chair wrapped in Beast Hide, with a Wolf Hide spread out on the floor beneath it.
Colin was quite happy to see the fireplace.
Although his [Winter Wolf Necklace] pretty much prevented him from freezing, the biting cold could still be unpleasant at times.
Colin then walked inside and glanced at the washroom.
Besides the toilet, bathtub, and washstand, there was a mirror hanging over the washstand. The bathtub also had a shower head and a curtain for privacy. Bathing here would definitely be much more comfortable than back in the Dock District.
After inspecting the room, Colin turned and walked out the door.
Just then, Ale happened to open her door and come out as well.
Seeing this, Colin felt a strange sense of familiarity, as if they hadn’t moved at all.
"Colin, are you daydreaming?" Ale asked, tilting her head.
Colin started down the stairs and said, "Let’s go."
The two of them went down from the apartment building and found the other two.
The group first went to where Colin and Ale used to live to help them move.
Fortunately, with something like the [Dimension Bag], moving wasn’t difficult. Besides, other than a few trinkets picked up during their adventures and a few changes of clothes, Colin didn’t have much to pack.
After one round trip, his, Ale’s, and Orelia’s belongings were all taken care of.
The group then went to Kase’s place to pack his things before heading toward their new home once again.
As they walked, Colin glanced at Orelia, who was skipping happily at the very front, and found it strangely amusing.
He asked, "You’re very happy today, aren’t you?"
"Of course I am! I finally have my own room! It’s a place where I can be my own boss, Mr. Colin." Orelia turned around and started walking backward, her smiling face looking incredibly radiant in the sunlight, like a blooming rose.
"I say, what we need is a tap that goes straight to our rooms, one that dispenses beer when you put money in it. Now that would be a good thing," Kase said with a frown. "These shower heads are a complete waste!"
Ale said, "But wouldn’t that make the beer taste worse?"
"I can’t believe you’re actually considering such a crazy idea..." Colin couldn’t help but comment.
"Don’t be so quick to judge. They actually have those in the rich districts of the Dwarf Cities," Dorn said. "It’s not such a crazy idea."
After they finished moving, the group went to the Saffron Tailor Shop that Asvir, the Master of the Black Tower, had told them about.
The shop was located in the western part of the Trade District.
Since Thousand Masts City was built by expanding inland from the coastline, its location basically meant that it was a very old shop.
Much like any other tailor shop in the world, bolts of fabric hung inside, and there were several fitting rooms in the corners of the shop.
Behind the counter was the sewing area, where a few apprentices were busy at work. At the same time, there were also some customers in the shop examining the quality of the fabrics.
When the shop owner saw the group enter, he immediately came forward to greet them enthusiastically.
