Chapter 2060 - 2053: There Are Ghosts on This Battlefield
This is by far the easiest fortress defense battle humans have experienced. The defensive line built by the Warcraft of the Insect Clan is almost impenetrable. When the martial artists of humans are fatigued, they can immediately retreat to the Great City of Aiville to rest. Once their spirits and physical strength are restored, they return to the battlefield to continue fighting.
Relying on the supreme weapons and armor provided by Zhang Menglong, they can battle foes of higher levels. The top-tier warcraft are watched over by extreme Dao Realm martial artists, who can pinpoint and break them. Simply put, as long as they don’t court death, it’s essentially challenging to die!
However, many treat it as an opportunity to train themselves. They often wait until they are exhausted to retreat, which leads to steady improvement in their strength.
Of course, there’s also Zhang Menglong’s "blessing," which increases their drop rate significantly. Though it doesn’t reach the level of "Say and It Will Be Done," each time they slay a warcraft, apart from Supreme Coins, they are likely to acquire some extra supplies. Killing a dozen or more can yield some additional rewards.
"Strange, why has the drop rate for warcraft items increased so much this time?"
"Indeed, the rate at which I’m using supplies is not even keeping up with the speed at which warcraft drop items. I even received several items useful for the Myriad Tribes’ championship!"
"Could it be that the difficulty of this fortress defense battle has increased? Hence, the forces of rule have enhanced the drop probability of items?"
"It must be; perhaps it’s our compensation! Don’t assume you can relax because of the Insect Clan’s warcraft. Don’t place all your hopes on the warcraft; at most, they only cover for us. Ultimately, we humans must become stronger through our own strength!"
...
One month passed amidst such intensive battles, yet human warriors maintained a very good state. This period has been fruitful for them, with everyone’s strength seeing significant leaps!
In the second week, a very powerful warcraft appeared on the battlefield, each possessing extremely robust bodies. If humans did not have those supreme weapons, even those of the same level would struggle to break through their defenses!
However, the items these warcraft dropped were very abundant. Besides the basic items, there was something called Blood Essence, which looked like small beads resembling Saintess fruits. Consuming them in the afternoon can enhance a martial artist’s life levels, almost matching the effect of Blood Demon Ant’s Ant Royal Jelly!
Under Zhang Menglong’s management studies, one could practically acquire a Blood Essence for every few dozen warcraft slain during their assault on the fortress. Everyone collected at least dozens of them, sufficient to significantly boost their strength!
But within a month, the Insect Clan’s warcraft army led by Zhang Menglong also suffered heavy losses. To resist the shock of those warcraft, their losses were just as severe, with numbers reduced by nearly a fifth!
At the current rate of consumption, the final month could prove to be humans’ toughest!
...
Outside the Great City of Aiville, some figures were observing the city.
Their bodies appeared tall and well-proportioned, covered with exoskeleton-like armor except for their joints, with each being achieving the ultimate life level of Dao Realm.
They were not characters tied to context rules. If there were anyone present, they’d be puzzled why these figures were not defending their main city against the invading warcraft army and instead appeared near the Great City of Aiville.
"This race isn’t simple. Each individual might not be strong, yet they manage to maintain such good condition during this challenging fortress defense battle and even deploy Insect Clan warcraft to fight for them."
"This race likely has some means to tame warcraft. Many races possess such methods, so it’s not particularly strange. But if things continue like this, by the end of the Beast Tide, the Insect Clan army would have been exhausted."
"Wait! Look carefully!" Someone seemed to notice something important, "Look at their weapons and equipment!"
"Anything special... this... Supreme Weapons!"
For a moment, their breathing became heated, every person holding a supreme weapon, with supreme armor worn on their bodies. What kind of conditions must this race have!
"For such a weak race, each person possessing such supreme equipment, how is it possible? Where are these items from? With such large quantities, they weren’t obtained merely from killing warcraft!"
"Presumably, they stumbled upon a treasure trove left by some Super Races. But what kind of super civilization could possess so many supreme weapons? It’s not very realistic!"
"Fortunately, we came for this race today, or else we would’ve missed such a great opportunity!"
"Heh, a race so feeble doesn’t deserve these items. In their hands, supreme weapons are a waste. They should belong to a stronger race to maximize their value!"
They exchanged glances, seemingly reaching an unspoken consensus. Their bodies gradually became translucent, quietly blending into the surrounding space...
...
On the eastern battlefield of the Great City of Aiville, a martial artist just slew a warcraft. This time, his luck peaked, and he even procured a Supreme Crystal!
Smiling, he picked up the Supreme Crystal and prepared to return to the main city for a brief rest. The high-intensity battle had greatly drained his mental state. Even a short nap of ten minutes could significantly rejuvenate him.
He glanced at the supreme weapon in his hand, realizing without it, he never could have slain so many warcraft stronger than himself. His armor had fended off many fatal attacks. Thinking about returning it after the battlefield concluded made him reluctant.
He was ready to head back, but suddenly his body halted. His expression still carried a joyful fatigue, while a fine blood streak appeared on his neck.
His head silently fell to the ground, and his belongings instantly transformed into a small sphere of light dropping out.
That light sphere vanished in mid-air before it even landed!
On this chaotic battlefield, everyone was wholly engrossed in their battle, lacking the focus to notice other matters. One person mysteriously disappeared without attracting anyone’s attention!
In mere minutes, martial artist after martial artist had their lives taken this way, even before they perceived who struck!
But eventually, concealment gave way; as more perished, someone finally noticed something eerie. Some with not necessarily great strength possess heightened danger perception!
A martial artist repelled a warcraft and then abruptly felt a chill on his back. Instinctively, he dodged, narrowly avoiding a lethal strike! A gash deep enough to reveal cheekbones appeared on his face; a lesser move could’ve severed his throat!
"Everyone, alert! Stay vigilant! There’s something haunting this battlefield, something blending into the chaos!"
