Chapter 2057 - 2050: Tsk Tsk Tsk, Good Stuff
"This scene is just like the end of the world!" Zhang Menglong looked up at the sky, the dense dark clouds pressing down so heavily that it suffocated people, like a heavy object constantly pushing down, constantly falling.
"Whoosh!" Suddenly, heavy rain began to fall from the clouds, but the raindrops were all blood-red, as if made of blood.
Oddly enough, this torrential rain only fell around Aiville City, which seemed like the eye of a storm.
Zhang Menglong sniffed hard, but did not detect any scent of blood from the rain. He did notice that the people around him were visibly becoming more serious in demeanor.
"How long is this rain supposed to last?" Zhang Menglong muttered to himself.
"Six months, I think," said a primitive member of Yan Huang City next to Zhang Menglong.
"Six months?" Zhang Menglong repeated the words silently. Can he predict the blood rain’s duration?
His doubts were soon answered, as the blood rain began an extraordinary behavior upon hitting the ground, rapidly dividing and differentiating like a primal cell.
Countless blood raindrops clung together, disgustingly squirming, and then slowly congealed into a massive Warcraft!
This Warcraft was over fifty meters long, its burly body emanating an uncontrollable explosive force, spewing a torrent of energy from its mouth that carved a long scar into the ground.
"Damn, atomic breath? Godzilla?" Zhang Menglong muttered to himself.
"These blood rains are a peculiar substance; they possess self-awareness, and once amassed, create new entities and merge their consciousness. These Warcrafts are born in this way, with the sole aim of destroying the city before them!" the primitive member from Yan Huang City explained.
"After six months, the Beast Tide ends, and the blood rain naturally stops," the martial artist said, standing up with his weapon, "Get ready; we’re going to fight for our lives!"
Shortly before, Zhang Menglong tried to bring all the equipment from Yan Huang City here, but the rules strictly forbade such actions. Each race’s main city will revert to its initial state, prohibiting any modifications, with a clear purpose: Adventurers must rely on their own strength to withstand the Warcraft’s assault!
Instantly, roaring and growling filled all the regions around Aiville City. Looking out, the Beast Tide was endless; they curiously inspected this world and didn’t immediately charge at Aiville City.
The rain continued to pour from the sky, the blood-red waters pooling and writhing on the ground, resembling a hellish scene.
"Almost all are elite-grade Warcraft, mixed with many lord level and king-level, a few emperor level, and some rare emperor-grade Warcraft." Zhang Menglong made a rough assessment of the Warcraft’s strength, slightly below the average level of martial artists in Aiville City, purely relying on numerical superiority to attack the city.
"Have they noticed us?"
The first Warcraft’s scarlet eye locked onto Aiville City, letting out a deafening roar and charging at the city.
The remaining Warcraft seemed to feel the call of their companion, rushing over as if possessed. From the moment they gained consciousness, their sole existence was for slaughter!
"Go! We must not let them get within a 10-kilometer radius of the city, as in that range, they possess means of attacking the city from afar!"
The martial artist responsible for commanding the southern defense line was named Benedict. Until now, he has lived through 17 rounds of Myriad Tribes Contests at this location, practically making him a living chronicle of human history, witnessing the rise and fall of the human race in these 17 contests.
Of these 17 times, humans successfully defended the Great City of Aiville intact on three occasions, which was nearly humanity’s most glorious time. It is said that among all the races, barely even one in a hundred could fully defend their main city.
Facing this Warcraft siege, Benedict held experience and insights superior to most, knowing every kind of Warcraft’s characteristics and weaknesses thoroughly.
Warcraft sieges have certain features; they attack in batches, each batch almost consists of a single type, without too many of those mixed kinds. The types of Warcraft appearing in each batch and their duration are adjusted according to the strength of the race’s characteristics.
The Warcraft resembling Godzilla was called Radon Beast. They lived in extremely hostile environments, those of extreme high temperatures filled with radiation, thus making them themselves mobile radiation sources. They could also condense the radiation energy within themselves to breathe an attack at enemies.
The damage this breath could deal to the city was effective within a 10-kilometer range. Beyond this distance, its power weakened slightly, and the city walls of the Great City of Aiville could completely block it.
Everyone understood the meaning behind Benedict’s words, which was for them to leave the city walls directly and charge into the Warcraft horde. Although tremendously dangerous, this action would absolutely stall the Warcraft’s offensive.
"How did you withstand for three months in such intense battles before?" Zhang Menglong asked those nearby.
"If solely relying on our strength, forget three months; we wouldn’t last even a month. But slaying those attacking Warcraft drops things. Those items are supposed to be used for the Myriad Tribes Contest, and when desperate, we use them here as well, thus securing a win."
"I understand now," Zhang Menglong grasped the essence of this city defense battle. Nothing in this world can’t be solved by drop rates. If it can’t solve it, then the world’s order has collapsed.
Humans and the Warcraft charging at the forefront clashed immediately. To withstand the powerful radiation energy from the Radon Beasts, they had to allocate part of their energy to form a protective shield around themselves, resisting the high-temperature, high-energy radiation attacks.
"I want to see what you can drop!" Zhang Menglong boldly charged into the midst of a Radon Beast horde, an action that made Benedict sweat. A martial artist at the peak of Dao Realm with ten times the strength lunging into a horde of hundreds of Radon Beasts—it was suicidal!
Why not stay put in the logistics team?
However, he clearly underestimated Zhang Menglong’s capability. Zhang Menglong nimbly dodged within the Radon Beast horde, swiftly appearing before one, and punched its head.
It was as if a bomb exploded within the Radon Beast’s head; it promptly collapsed straight down.
"Underestimated him!" Benedict was astonished. Even for a martial artist with Dao Realm strength a hundred times over, defeating a Radon Beast that already reached king level was a daunting task.
As the Radon Beast fell, a mound of items appeared on the ground. In addition to the usual Supreme Coins and Supreme Crystals, there were many things not seen before.
Zhang Menglong casually picked up those items, and as his gaze swept over one of them, he displayed a sly smile.
"Tsk tsk tsk, what a treasure!"
