Chapter 1995 - 1988: Get a Few More Eggs
The likes of Ying Zheng had been mingling in this world for quite some time, and of course, they had heard of hidden tasks. Sometimes, tasks that ordinary people cannot trigger can be activated on those rules characters, and the activation method is very random. However, every hidden task always comes with very generous rewards. There was even a case of a lucky person getting ten Supreme Crystals in a single hidden task!
That guy exchanged the ten Supreme Crystals directly for a hundred million Supreme Coins and then immediately went towards that light pillar. But at that moment, he became an unlucky soul instead, as he encountered a Supreme Demon Beast under the rules of World Force...
"Hey bro, care to share?" Zhang Menglong handed over another cup of milk tea worth 20 Supreme Coins, which instantly improved the rules character’s impression of Zhang Menglong.
"As you can see, I just came from deep within the Wind Whisper Plains, where a large number of Warcraft beasts reside, and there’s even a rather large nest. I heard the leader of the Warcraft beasts just laid an egg!"
"Damn, this moron isn’t expecting me to do something sneaky like snatching that, right?" Zhang Menglong could almost guess what the content of this task was.
"Warcraft beasts are very powerful, but regardless of the beast, the young are very easy to tame. If you can get that Warcraft beast egg, someone is definitely willing to pay a high price for it. If you can help me get that egg, I’m willing to give you 5 million Supreme Coins!"
"5 million Supreme Coins?"
"My god, we wouldn’t be able to earn that much in a decade!"
"We’ve got to take this task!"
"5 million?" Surprisingly, Zhang Menglong let out a sarcastic chuckle and didn’t accept the task immediately, even turning to leave.
When he was little, his mom taught him, when bargaining with others, make sure to turn around and leave without any hesitation.
The others couldn’t understand Zhang Menglong’s behavior. Why wouldn’t he take a task with such generous rewards? They wished they could accept the task on his behalf right then and there.
But they also knew very well that the task Zhang Menglong triggered could only be accepted by him, and no one else could snatch his task. If they spoke for Zhang Menglong, they’d get nothing but a glare from the rules character.
"Wait, warrior!" Seeing Zhang Menglong walk away, the rules character actually spoke up, "I just said it wrong, not 5 million, 6 million!"
Hearing this, Zhang Menglong grinned, but he still didn’t stop.
"7 million!"
Zhang Menglong kept walking.
"8 million, that’s my limit, I can’t give any more!"
Zhang Menglong finally stopped, his smile growing broader.
Just now, Gou Dan told Zhang Menglong that these rules characters are not dead or programmed individuals; they are living, breathing people with their own thoughts and logic!
Unlike Zhang Menglong and others who play as player characters, these rules characters play as NPCs. Essentially, they are all pieces in this game, only their actions are restricted by certain rules!
Zhang Menglong roughly inferred that they needed certain specific conditions to leave this world for the Supreme World. Although Zhang Menglong didn’t know what these conditions were, he didn’t need to know; he just needed to know that there was some sort of interest tug-of-war between him and these rules characters!
The ultimate result of this task was nothing more than who could profit more; Zhang Menglong believed that the 5 million Supreme Coins were definitely not the final task reward.
After Zhang Menglong turned around, he saw a sense of loss in the eyes of the rules character, clearly indicating that the rules character had lost the internal mind game against Zhang Menglong.
"Heh, deal!" Zhang Menglong said with a grin.
Those around him were dumbfounded; they rarely got tasks, let alone such rewarding hidden tasks. If it were them, they would have eagerly taken the task, no way they would play such a game of cat and mouse.
Didn’t Zhang Menglong fear that the rules character might suddenly refuse to give him the task?
"Warrior, aren’t you afraid I’ll take back my task?" the rules character asked.
"Not at all," Zhang Menglong chuckled and shook his head, "5 million Supreme Coins, so what? It doesn’t matter if I don’t accept it; I can earn more than 5 million just by randomly killing a warcraft."
Zhang Menglong spoke so arrogantly that others felt he might be getting cocky. Last time he struck luck getting a Supreme Crystal. Could he do it every time? If so, they might have to question whether there’s a loophole in this world’s rules.
"You’re a really unique person," the rules character, seeing Zhang Menglong’s confidence, had no solution. In truth, he didn’t want Zhang Menglong to accept this task because, even though there’s still profit upon completion, his share was considerably reduced.
However, due to rule constraints, once the task is triggered, he must let the other accept, which was a balance of checks between different game roles.
...
The group traversed through the grass, with Zhang Menglong and Ying Zheng leading, others following in a formation that allowed them to advance or retreat as needed, something summarized during Emperor Qin’s past battles.
"No idea where to find this egg," Zhang Menglong muttered to himself, "The Wind Whisper Plains are so vast, finding one egg here is like searching for a needle in a haystack."
"Just have to rely on luck," Ying Zheng replied, "Based on my experience, a King Level Warcraft beast will definitely guard the egg, making it challenging to obtain. After all, this is an 8 million Supreme Coins task, if it were too easy to complete, the money would seem too easy to earn."
"True." Zhang Menglong nodded, but he wasn’t particularly concerned. Randomly killing a couple of Warcrafts could net him more than a few Supreme Crystals, more valuable than that thing.
"There’s another way," Ying Zheng added, "Once you accept the task, there’s a very low chance that while hunting Warcraft beasts, a Warcraft beast egg could drop directly. Although the probability is almost negligible, what if you have exceptionally good luck?"
Zhang Menglong got excited upon hearing this. A very low chance of a Warcraft beast egg dropping?
For him, that’s a 100% drop rate!
"Brother Ying Zheng," Zhang Menglong had a sudden idea, "If I get many Warcraft beast eggs, what do you think the extra eggs could be used for?"
Ying Zheng chuckled, "Brother Menglong, it’s already extremely difficult to get one egg. If you manage a second one, I’m guessing this news goes around and those rules characters could very well be revolving around you, given how valuable these Warcraft beast eggs seem to be to them."
"In that case, let’s get a bunch more eggs then!"
