Chapter 60: Naviel, He’s Supposedly Also Zorathys’ Assistant And A Friend (Zorathys Has Friends?)
Elyn’s POV
I think I should have known what to expect from the soft-spoken voice I heard at the door.
Let me first start by saying, even with how scary these demons looked sometimes—I’m talking about Versha, Rin, and dare I say Morthen too—the others who end up being beautiful are extremely so.
Zorathys was handsome even if he was lazy. He was extremely handsome, that sometimes I had to remind myself that he was a lazy piece of a demon to make myself forget that he was extremely handsome and had a beautiful voice, along with beautiful eyes, beautiful hair, and his height was also, dare I say, beautiful.
Don’t judge me—a girl can appreciate beauty, and it doesn’t necessarily have to be a person’s face. Yes, heights can be beautiful too, especially if it’s one that is taller than your usual tall self.
So yes, Zorathys’ height was beautiful. And then there was Ignivar. Now I understood why his hair and even eyes looked like they were made of flames, and I don’t even understand how he was able to carry it so well.
And then there was Naviel.
He walked into the office nervously, and I took him in. In Naviel’s case, I wouldn’t use the word handsome because, I kid you not, this man—or boy—or whatever demon...I don’t know how old he even is...wasn’t handsome.
He was fucking beautiful, and he deserved to be placed on a pedestal just for people to gaze at his beauty.
He looked like he had been carved out of the moon. Or maybe the water. I had no idea. He was pale. Extremely pale.
And I don’t mean the sickly type of pale. No. This was an I own paleness and make it mine type of pale...I’m not kidding you.
He wore glasses like Morthen did, but while it looked out of place on Morthen, the glasses looked like they were made for Naviel.
He was tall. No, he was at least my height, but that did nothing to lessen his beauty. Instead, it enhanced it.
His hair was braided in two, and they draped over his shoulders. The color caught my eye. They were a pale blue—seems everything about him was pale...so pale that they were almost white. And I noticed that it wasn’t just one color; his hair was a mix of both blue and white.
His eyes were silver in color. I noticed as he adjusted his glasses and took note of something else.
His skin shimmered a bit, and I noticed there were tiny scales on his body.
I should be irritated by that, but no. I wasn’t. Instead, I was thinking about putting Naviel in a reverse-harem book and locking him up as the other male leads tried to make him theirs.
If only I could do that, but alas, that wasn’t going to happen. Three small piercings lined his left earlobe...Oooh, pretty demon has a mean side. He was also dressed impeccably.
He wore all white, and it fitted him impeccably.
"Sorry I’m late. I was at the King’s office trying to sort through everything when a gargoyle ran into me," he said softly.
Ignivar only nodded and closed the door.
"I’m sure the gargoyle ran into you after you left the office?" Ignivar asked him.
"I was wondering where you were. You said you were going to inform Zorathys about the work we would be doing, but then I noticed you weren’t coming back, so I got worried, thinking maybe he was trying to kill you again for waking him up," Naviel told Ignivar.
Ignivar laughed. "I didn’t even get into his room...thankfully the queen was there," he said, pointing at me.
It was only then that Naviel noticed I was in the office.
He bowed. "It’s nice to officially meet you, Your Highness," he said in greeting. "I’m Naviel, the King’s overworked assistant and supposedly a friend."
I blinked in shock, all thoughts about Naviel and how beautiful he was flying out of my brain. "You mean...Zorathys has friends?" I asked him.
Naviel adjusted his glasses as he chuckled a bit.
"Don’t tell him I admitted that. Apparently, he calls me and Ignivar his friends when he feels like," Naviel told me.
Did I also mention that Naviel was soft-spoken? His voice was like fresh air.
"I denied him as a friend after he tried to kill me numerous times for making him work," Ignivar grumbled. "To me, he’s just the king."
"And yet you call him by his name. No one cares to call the king by his given name and live to see the next day," Rin said dreamily.
I was an expert at ignoring her, so I did so.
"Naviel," I said, testing the name on my tongue, "now that you are here, maybe you can help us out?"
"With what?" he asked with a frown on his face.
"With deciding if I should introduce myself to the nobles first before continuing the work that Zorathys claimed he had done," I told him.
Naviel took in the office and how it was filled with petition scrolls. He didn’t need to be told what happened; he just nodded like he understood.
"I suggest you meet with the nobles first. If you don’t, they are likely going to obstruct your work when you start. It would be better to be introduced to them," Naviel told me.
"But the issue now is," he continued, "the king is supposed to be the one introducing you to the nobles. He was supposed to do that yesterday, but in typical Zorathys fashion, he postponed it. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned from staying by Zorathys’ side, it’s to never force him to do what he doesn’t want to do."
"So now the issue is how to get the king to formally introduce Her Highness to the court so she can go about the duties that the king abandoned?" Vaelory asked him.
Naviel turned his gaze to her. "And you are?" he asked calmly.
Vaelory looked like she could melt on the spot. She was fangirling in my presence. I mean, I wasn’t against it, but Naviel was looking at her like she was some pest right now that he would get rid of if she tried anything at all.
"She’s my maid," I told him. "I brought her with me from the human realm."
Since Vaelory had absolutely lost her voice, I had to be the one speaking.
"Oh," Naviel said, then turned back to me, forgetting all about Vaelory at that point.
