Chapter 58: Ignivar, You Traitor
Chapter 58: Ignivar, You Traitor
While Elyn had been trying to make Zorathys work, there was one other person in the castle.
Her purple hair was packed in a bun and she wore all black, making sure to blend into the shadows—or rather, making sure to blend as much as she could into the shadows.
She only had one aim here, and that was to find out who the queen was and how she looked. She would be the first person among the nobles to know who the queen was; she was very certain of it.
She hid behind one of the messenger gargoyles. He turned and was about to speak up, but she made a shh sound with her mouth and her hands.
The gargoyle’s eyes widened when he saw her, and he kept quiet, choosing to go back to his task of... The gargoyle paused. What was his task again? He couldn’t remember.
The woman knew, from the way the gargoyle tilted his head, that he had seemingly forgotten what errand he had been sent on.
She quickly moved to hide behind a wall which, thankfully, was covered with shadows.
Then she heard footsteps. She wondered who it was and peeked out to see.
She paused. She could not believe her eyes. She was seeing the most beautiful demon she had ever come across. Even more beautiful than herself—and that was saying a lot because she was the most beautiful demon in the demon realm.
But this woman... She was dressed freely but stylishly in a cream-colored gown. Her red hair was lustrous and beautiful. Her body proportions were on point.
Seraphielle thought that maybe she could convince this woman to work in the pleasure house. If this mysterious woman worked there, then their earnings would skyrocket. She would be even richer than that fox and her gambling den.
Seraphielle made the decision to convince the woman to work in her pleasure house, but then she stopped when she noticed three other people following the woman.
She recognized two, but the last one... she didn’t recognize the last one. And her taste in clothes was just awful. The one who was hiding a jewelry piece in her clothes—quickly—was none other than Rin.
Seraphielle wasn’t even surprised that Rin was hiding jewelry. Her kind loved shiny things after all. If one set a trap for a raven demon with jewelry—especially the ones that glittered or reflected light—then they would fall into the trap one hundred percent. They couldn’t resist anything shiny.
The other was Morthen. The straight-laced cryptid demon who hated being roped in with the insect demons, even though to Seraphielle, he looked like an insect.
Seraphielle observed as they moved up the grand staircase, and her eyes widened as the woman walked into Zorathys’s room.
She deflated at that. The woman was going to die. She knew it. There was no chance she would survive entering the King’s room like that. And if the King had been sleeping, then they would likely not even see her body. It was kind of sad because she had really wanted the woman to work in her pleasure house.
Well, she told herself, that wasn’t why she came after all. She came here to find the queen.
She turned to leave when she saw another familiar figure: Ignivar, ruler of the flame demons and Duke of the Hellfire Territory. A place filled with heat and lava—continuous lava—and even meteors.
Seraphielle hated going to the territory. It was too scary. They had good cooks, yes, but it was scary fighting for her life. Her husband was trying to push that they open a pleasure house there too, but Seraphielle was reluctant to do so, especially with how quickly things burned down.
The one thing she loved about the place were the fireflies. They were tiny, temperamental creatures with red hair and beautiful fire-like eyes.
They were kind most times, but if you got on their nerves, then they turned vicious. In short, don’t mess with the fireflies.
Seraphielle had a thought then—could it be that this woman was descended from the fireflies? Now that she was thinking about it, the woman looked like she could be their queen. Maybe she is, she thought.
She watched as Ignivar made his way to Rin and Morthen with a frown on his face.
Rin and Morthen bowed in greeting, while the other one just looked out of place, like she had no idea who Ignivar was. Which was weird, because Ignivar was one of the most famous demons in the realm. Mainly because he was handsome, and women wanted him—especially after finding out he was having issues with his wife.
Seraphielle moved closer so she could hear the conversation taking place.
"Why are you guys here?" Ignivar asked them.
"Um..." Morthen began, then adjusted his glasses nervously.
"My lady is in the King’s room," Rin blurted out.
"Your lady?" Ignivar asked with a frown. Even Seraphielle was confused.
Rin didn’t have a master she served directly except for the king. No one had been shiny enough for her to serve after all. Those had been her words.
"The Queen," Rin said with a wide smile.
Seraphielle paused. The Queen? The woman she had seen entering the King’s room was the queen?
"Are you sure you guys aren’t mistaken?" Ignivar asked skeptically.
"Of course not. I know my lady anywhere. She just went into the King’s room," Rin told him airily.
Ignivar’s eyes widened in panic. "And you guys didn’t try to stop her? Do you want her dead?"
Morthen swallowed nervously as he adjusted his suit. Even Seraphielle was brewing with anger right now. How could they just let the queen enter the King’s room like that? The Queen was dead. She was sure of it.
And she hadn’t even taken in her beauty fully. Seraphielle shook her head.
But a few seconds later, the door opened and Zorathys walked out, followed by the queen.
Seraphielle stared in shock because she was sure the queen had died. She observed the way the queen talked to Zorathys and how he respected her. And she was filled with two thoughts:
One: Ignivar was a traitor because he had now met the queen before the rest of them. Seraphielle was sure he planned it.
Two: the Queen was giving boss energy and she found that extremely attractive. She came up with a mission—she couldn’t convince the queen to work at her pleasure house, but she could seduce her.
She licked her lips. She couldn’t wait to see how the queen tasted.
And while Seraphielle was thinking about how to seduce the queen, one child was in the office eating Elyn’s snacks with a wide smile on his face. But he would run away when he heard footsteps approaching.
