Chapter 91: Changing His Eyes Because Of Elyn Doesn’t Stop Azerion and Rin From Arguing Like Kids Even Though Rin Is An Adult

Elyn’s POV

Azerion smiled.

It was small at first, hesitant, like he was testing whether he was allowed to be happy.

Then it widened, bright and unguarded, and before I could ask anything else, he was already moving.

He walked toward me with quick, excited steps, stopping right in front of the desk where I was seated. His hands clasped behind his back, posture straight, chin lifted just slightly like he was presenting himself for inspection.

He nodded enthusiastically.

"The raven told me," he said, voice light and eager, "that my eyes made others uncomfortable."

Rin snorted from where she stood.

Azerion ignored her completely and kept his gaze fixed on me.

"Especially you," he added quickly. "So I changed them."

I blinked.

Changed... them?

I leaned forward without realizing it, my eyes lifting to his face properly for the first time since I’d noticed something was off.

His eyes weren’t slit anymore.

Gone were the unmistakable serpentine pupils — sharp, vertical, and predatory in a way that always made it clear he wasn’t human, no matter how young he looked. In their place were round blue pupils, soft and dark, framed by long lashes that made his gaze look almost too expressive for his face.

The eyes made him look human, at least to the unsuspecting person.

"They don’t bother you now, right?" Azerion asked, hopeful. "I practiced holding them like this."

I nodded slowly.

They didn’t bother me.

If anything, they made him look even younger. Even softer. And cuter.

And perhaps it was because of that thought that my hands reached out before I could even register it, and I pinched his cheek.

I did it just once, but it was too tempting not to.

Azerion froze at first, then his entire face lit up like I’d just handed him the sun.

He beamed at me, eyes shining, cheeks flushing faintly beneath my fingers.

Rin clicked her tongue loudly at that.

"It’s because of me," she muttered. "I told him to do that. And now he’s getting all the attention."

I let out a low chuckle, withdrawing my hand.

"You did well," I told her. "For noticing how uncomfortable I was with his eyes before."

Rin straightened immediately, posture snapping into something proud and smug. She grinned at me — wide, sharp, entirely too pleased with herself.

Vaelory shrieked and jumped back like she’d been personally attacked.

"Don’t do that!" she blurted out. "Don’t smile like that! It just makes you look like a demon!"

Rin blinked.

Then frowned.

"I am a demon," she said flatly.

Vaelory paused.

Her mouth opened and then closed.

She nodded slowly, muttering to herself, "She’s right... she is a demon."

I rubbed at my temple briefly, already feeling the familiar pressure of a headache threatening to return.

I turned back to Azerion.

"You don’t have to stay here," I told him gently. "You can go play. Or explore. You don’t need to sit in the office with me."

He shook his head immediately, hair bobbing with the movement, the low ponytail swaying behind him.

"I’m staying," he said firmly. "I’m going to protect you."

I sighed softly. "No one is going to hurt me."

Azerion’s eyes flicked past me — straight to Rin.

He glared at her.

Rin gasped, deeply offended. "Excuse you? I would never hurt my lady. I like her even more than you do."

"That’s a lie," Azerion snapped back. "I like her more."

"You just met her."

"And?"

"I’ve known her longer."

"And I still like her more."

They turned toward each other, voices rising, words tumbling over each other as they began arguing in earnest about who liked me more, their tones sharp and competitive in the most ridiculous way imaginable.

"No, I like her more," Rin told him.

"I like her more," Azerion argued.

"No you don’t, I like her more."

"No, it’s me. I like her more."

I felt the headache arrive fully this time.

"Enough," I said sharply.

"Sit down. Both of you. And shut up."

They froze.

Then, in perfect synchronization, both Rin and Azerion mimed zipping their mouths shut with their hands again.

I exhaled slowly through my nose.

Azerion shuffled over to the couch in the corner of the office, shoulders slumped, the earlier excitement draining from him completely. He dropped onto the cushions and released a long, dramatic sigh, like the weight of the world had settled squarely on his small frame.

I watched as he reached into the pocket of his shorts and pulled out my snack box.

He shook it once and held it against his hand as one of those sweet calming snacks rolled out. He immediately popped it in his mouth and repeated the same motion again.

My eyes twitched as I watched him.

I said nothing, lips pressed thin, watching as he ate with all the audacity of someone who had absolutely no shame.

"For someone who claims not to be a thief," Vaelory said to him, "you are holding Her Highness’s snack box in front of her with no shame."

Azerion shot her a glare and opened his mouth to argue.

But I cleared my throat, making him freeze mid-breath.

I held out my hand and gestured for the box.

Azerion glanced down at it.

Then back at me.

Then down again.

Then back at me.

Slowly — very slowly — he slid the box back into his pocket instead, choosing to pretend like I hadn’t just asked him for it.

My smile was tight.

"I know where you kept it," I said calmly. "If you don’t want me to get angry, you’ll kindly put the box in my hand."

His shoulders slumped even further.

The happiness from earlier vanished completely, replaced with a sulky pout that made him look like a scolded child rather than a dangerous demon.

He pulled the box out, stood up, shuffled over, and placed it in my hand with exaggerated care.

Then he trudged back to the couch and collapsed face-first onto it with another heavy sigh.

"Thank you," I said.

He didn’t answer.

Instead, he muttered into the cushions, "You stole my snacks."

I ignored him. I noticed how light the box was, but I didn’t pay it much mind.

I shook the box the way Kethra told me to, and one snack rolled out. I immediately popped it in my mouth, letting the sweetness melt on my tongue and the calmness wash over me.

But when I shook it again and tried to take another, I got the very clear message that the box was empty. Azerion had finished it.

I stared at the box for a long moment, then without saying anything, placed it quietly on the desk.

Choosing peace, I turned away from the couch and looked back at Morthen instead.

"You were telling me about the types of water demons?" I asked him.
