Chapter 87: The Heroic Adventure of Night and his Friends begins
Standing in the main hall, Night saw everyone gathered with a solemn expression.
Yes, today they were finally going outside the city.
Night had taken [Blaze]’s advice to heart and decided to be a bit more open-minded about it.
He had gone to the public garden this morning after breakfast.
Upon seeing the kids and toddlers playing happily, their cheerful parents and some rare elderly folks, he thought it wouldn’t be so bad to try and save them if he actually could.
Of course, for Night, the safety of his friends was still his number one priority.
Lucy stepped to the front, with the divine Game of Chess strapped securely to her back like a badge of honor, and announced, "We will be going to the Himalayan regions in the north of India, as suggested by Night."
The others looked at Night and he nodded firmly.
Lucy continued, "Sara and Blade have already scouted the surrounding regions, and it is relatively safe."
"This is the closest ’safe’ place to the Dream City," Sara added.
The Dream City was located in London, which was incredibly far from the Himalayan regions. It was a testament to how scary the outside world truly was, barely any place on this planet was safe for newbies anymore.
Blade crossed her arms. "But the world’s Number 2 Death Zone is located nearby, so we have to be extra cautious."
While saying this, she eyed the chessboard strapped to Lucy’s back. She was slightly disappointed it hadn’t shown any reaction.
The others already knew all about Night’s newly acquired ’Chosen’ status; during breakfast, he had bragged non-stop about getting a Divine Skill.
Without wasting any time, Eve and Lilith brought out a small, glowing ball of charcoal.
It was a rare artifact they had purchased.
[Burning Coal (Lvl. 30) (Rare)]
[Creates a warm, temperature-controlled atmosphere within a 10 x 10 meter radius.]
It was a simple utility artifact they had bought just in case it got too freezing out there. Of course, Night had the Fire Aspect now, but he had barely just acquired it and didn’t know how to reliably utilize it yet without burning everything down.
[Blaze]’s voice echoed in his mind. "So the real fun begins! Don’t worry, I’ll teach you some proper fire cultivation techniques and Totem Arts after you have built a stable foundation."
Completely undetected by the Primordial God, [Dream] whispered in Night’s soul space, "You should learn both of them. His raw attack power is no joke. He is probably the most dangerous Primordial God when it comes to causing pure damage."
It made Night wonder exactly how she was able to hide from a Primordial God who was supposed to be a lot stronger than her, even in her prime. Now that she was technically dead and reduced to fragments, she should have been easily spotted.
[Dream] chuckled. "Every girl has her secrets."
System Girl outed her without a single moment of hesitation. "It’s because of me! I am tied to your main body and have a connection much deeper than even your friends do. So [Blaze] would literally have to rip apart your soul if he wanted to find us."
[Dream] tsked, "Tsk," acting as if she was unbothered by the fact that her brilliant hiding method had just been blatantly revealed.
[Dream] then added with a sweet smile, "I am almost done with the interior designing of the soul space. The mischievous Spirit Wind has been successfully disciplined. It is now proudly fulfilling its new role as a ceiling fan."
Night’s lips twitched. Oh, the poor Wind of Desolation...
( ˘ _ ˘ ) ウン
He hadn’t forgotten about it. It was just that he needed to awaken the Wind Aspect first to properly and safely bind to it. He was low-key hoping to have a lucky encounter regarding that on this very adventure.
As for the ’interior design’ of his soul space, [Dream] and System Girl had forbidden his entry into his own soul space.
They didn’t even allow him a tiny peek, claiming they were doing some major reworking to make it habitable.
He didn’t exactly know what they meant by that, so he just let them be.
Night was shaken from his thoughts when Blade brought out a thin, glowing white blade.
Standing at the front of the hall, Blade swung the weapon directly at the empty space.
As the blade moved, reality itself was sliced apart like a fragile piece of paper. They could clearly see the other side through the rift, it was a sprawling white landscape with heavy snow falling.
Blade ordered, "Let’s cross quickly. The spatial rift will last for only 30 seconds."
Leading the way, she jumped through first. From the other side of the portal, she waved her hand for them to follow.
As they crossed through one after another, the Nightmare Castle became entirely empty.
Night was the last to cross. As soon as his feet touched the thick snow, he felt a biting chill. But as soon as he circulated his Nightmare Mist across his Nadis (energy channels), his body temperature regulated, and he felt perfectly comfortable.
Suddenly, harsh freezing winds started blowing, making him incredibly glad he had protected himself earlier.
Looking around, he saw the others doing something similar to cope with the cold. Lucy smoothly covered herself in a blanket of warm shadows, Lilith pulsed with dark energy and Eve had electric currents flashing across her metallic skin to generate heat.
They had put away the artifact, it was better to use it while resting in a safe area.
Meanwhile, Sage simply used [Wind Overdrive] to block the breeze and casually covered her tiny body in a layer of rock using [Stone Creation].
Using Night’s shared skills came completely naturally to her, unlike the others who still had to struggle with it.
Looking ahead, Night saw Blade standing vigilantly at the front.
"Let’s move to the snow forest nearby," Blade instructed. "There is a massive dungeon outbreak over there which has already killed off most of the local beasts."
Sara simply stood at the side as a silent observer. She would only be interfering if the situation completely spiraled out of control, for obvious reasons.
They all broke into a sprint. Lucy manipulated shadows t boost their movement speed.
Death, not wanting to fall behind the mutt, swung her scepter, inadvertently causing the surrounding chill to sharply increase, which earned her a glare from Lucy as she shivered.
The surroundings darkened, and the howling winds suddenly paused around them, allowing their overall speed to increase.
Soon, they reached the edge of the snowy forest area. Just outside the treeline, they saw two monsters violently fighting each other.
Night focused his new eyes and estimated, "They should be about Level 25 to 30."
He didn’t have a [Inspect] skill to identify them, but his new [Mystic Eyes] paired flawlessly with his [Beast Instinct], allowing him to get a general feel of the opponents’ overall strength.
He then checked his ocular skill in the system.
[Mystic Eyes (Common) (Lvl. 2) - 20 EV]
[Allows the user to pry open the mysteries of everything they see.]
He quickly dumped EV into it, upgrading it directly to Level 10.
[Mystic Eyes (Common) (Lvl. 10) - 1,100 EV]
He then upgraded it one more time to break the threshold and stopped.
[Mystic Eyes (Common) (Lvl. 11) - 1,200 EV]
[Allows the user to pry open the mysteries of everything they see.]
Nothing in the written text description had changed, but he visibly felt his vision improve by leaps and bounds, which should have been physically impossible considering how sharp his eyesight already was.
Done with the quick upgrade, he looked closely at the fight.
The monsters looked like massive white bears, with jagged white crystals covering various vulnerable parts of their bodies as natural armor. They had glowing ice crystals in place of normal eyes and sharp crystalline horns protruding from the top of their heads.
Both monsters looked like they were locked in a life-or-death battle.
Sara corrected Night quietly. "They are Level 33."
Night squinted his pupil-less eyes behind the sunglasses, but the beasts really didn’t feel that strong or threatening to him.
Sara shook her head with an amused smile. "You are comparing them by taking your own strength as a baseline. But after you fully fused with the Dream System, awakened dream and fire aspect and became [Blaze]’s Chosen, your strength has become truly absurd for your level."
"And this is not even counting the powerful class skill you will receive for the Summoner class once you reach Level 21."
Night understood. Basically, he was completely broken.
Leveling up and finally reaching Level 21 was one of this adventure’s main goals.
He was looking forward to the next skill from the Summoner class; he had a feeling he would absolutely love it.
Even [Dream] had said that after prying into his destiny, the upcoming skill would play an incredibly important role for him in the near future.
Eve pointed a metallic finger. "Master, look! They are both severely weakened."
Looking closely at the fight, he realized it was indeed true.
Both of the bears had just unleashed a powerful area-of-effect skill that had filled the surrounding clearing with jagged ice spikes. Both of them were now heavily impaled and bleeding, looking more like miserable porcupines than actual bears.
Lucy smiled evilly, her shadows flaring. "Let’s sneak attack them."
Death immediately taunted, "What else can you expect from a sneaky cowardly mutt?"
Lucy snapped her head toward Death and growled, "You want to fight, bone-bag?!"
Just as things were about to get seriously heated between the two, Night raised his hand. "Let’s ambush them."
Everyone looked at him as he calmly continued, "Killing such high-level beasts would normally be quite difficult if we tried to fight them head-on together. But we have a perfectly good opportunity right here to kill not just one, but two of them."
Sage nodded her furry head in agreement.
And just like that, the group slipped into the shadows, preparing to ruthlessly ambush the two exhausted monsters.
