After a long moment, Adrian Quincy asked her, "Claire, how do you feel now?"

"Uh, my legs can move now."

"Come with me." Adrian Quincy took her hand and led her into deeper water.

When the water rose past her navel and was about to reach her chest, Adrian Quincy stopped. In a low voice, he said, "First, take a deep breath. I’ll teach you how to hold it underwater."

"Hold my breath underwater?" Claire Sinclair sounded a little nervous.

"Don’t worry, I’ll be holding your hand. Besides, the water is shallow here. Don’t pressure yourself—just try to relax."

"Okay, I’ll try."

Claire Sinclair took a deep breath, and Adrian Quincy, with perfect timing, took both her hands and guided her as they submerged themselves together.

’How he longed to steal a kiss,’ he thought, ’but I’m afraid I’ll scare her and make her choke.’ So he forced himself to resist the urge.

Only when her brows furrowed did he seize the moment to pull her up, and they both broke the surface together.

Claire Sinclair gasped for air, her eyes snapping open to meet the man’s clear, dark gaze. Her heart gave an inexplicable flutter as she said in pleasant surprise, "That actually feels... pretty good."

"Next time, try opening your eyes underwater."

"I can?"

"It’s fine for a short period."

"Then I’ll try it!"

Claire Sinclair took another breath and ducked into the water first.

When he submerged as well, Claire Sinclair opened her eyes at just the right moment, her gaze locking with his. As they looked at each other, a wave of tenderness washed over her heart...

Overcome with emotion, Claire Sinclair nearly choked and scrambled back to the surface.

Thoroughly startled, Adrian Quincy followed her up. "What’s wrong?" he asked urgently.

"I’m fine, I’m fine! I just... I suddenly wanted to say something to you and forgot we were underwater—mmph..."

Before she could finish, the man lost control and silenced her babbling lips with his own...

Claire Sinclair blinked. ’What kind of move is this?’

If only she knew how beautiful she looked in that moment, she would have understood why he had suddenly kissed her...

On the shore, Faye Dean watched this sappy public display of affection and shook her head in resignation.

’Just one look at Adrian Quincy’s ripped body,’ she thought, ’and you know he’s a handful. My poor baby Claire... can she even handle a man like that?’

Faye Dean smiled, gratified, then abruptly rolled over to face away from the sea.

’I’d rather take a nap than have their PDA shoved in my face.’

"Why would she leave without telling me..." Claire Sinclair raised an eyebrow. ’It seems like everyone around me,’ she mused, ’has a habit of either showing up uninvited or leaving without a word.’

Adrian Quincy said, "Frank Morgan called for her to go back."

"Huh?" Claire Sinclair was stunned.

Adrian Quincy added, "She might have run into some kind of trouble."
