Chapter 510: Is He the Reason You’ve Given Up on Yourself?
Claire Sinclair didn’t particularly like Ethan Kingsley, but she didn’t hate him either. In any case, she didn’t want to pass judgment, so she steered the conversation back. "I don’t want to get involved in men’s business. Let’s talk about you again."
"I don’t need your help anymore. Please leave. Thank you for making a special trip to see me." Ivy Tanner politely showed her the door.
Claire Sinclair frowned. "Are you messing with me?"
"Maybe." Ivy Tanner lowered her head and curled up even more, as if trying to shut herself away completely.
Claire Sinclair knew this state all too well. She had once shut herself off just like this. Back then, she had no one to help her; she had to stumble through it all on her own.
Seeing someone so similar to her past self made her heart ache.
"You get some rest. I’ll go ask the doctor when you can be discharged." With that, Claire Sinclair stood up to leave.
Ivy Tanner called out to her, "What are you going to do?"
Claire Sinclair said in a low voice, "If you don’t want to go back, I can help you buy a few more days. Use this time to think things over. There are some things I might not be able to help with, but I think Ethan Kingsley can. You just need to use your head a little."
Ivy Tanner’s lips slowly curled into a self-deprecating smile. "If he were willing to help me, he wouldn’t have been standing by idly all this time..."
Claire Sinclair paused. She hadn’t considered this when she came, and now it suddenly dawned on her.
"Is he the reason you’ve given up on yourself?"
"..." Ivy Tanner remained silent.
Claire Sinclair said irritably, "If you don’t even love yourself, how can you expect anyone else to love you? At the very least, start by living like a normal person. Otherwise, even if I expose your Tanner Family’s scandal to the world, he won’t give you a second glance."
Still not feeling satisfied, she added, "You’re obviously a smart person. Now, even I don’t want to help you anymore. You might as well figure it out yourself!"
This time, Claire Sinclair really left, driven away by anger.
Ivy Tanner bit her lip in frustration, muttering to herself, ’So I have to become a normal person first?’
’That doesn’t seem so difficult.’
–
Claire Sinclair was furious. She finally understood how Nancy Lockwood must have felt when she used to scold her. ’So this is the frustration of dealing with a hopeless case.’
’No, it’s more like trying to wake someone who’s pretending to be asleep. That’s a more fitting description for Ivy Tanner.’
As she passed the nurses’ station, she suddenly overheard a few young nurses discussing something:
"It’s horrifying. She was pierced with a total of 125 needles all over her body. They said some of them were inserted a long time ago, stuck between two bones, making them hard to get out. It took the doctor a full five hours to remove them all."
"And there’s something even more horrifying—that iron nail in her back. Luckily, it didn’t hit any vital spots, otherwise..."
"It’s not much better. With so many things stuck in her body, it must hurt to lie down, sit, or even walk. That poor Third Miss Tanner is a simpleton; she can’t even express when she’s in pain."
"Sigh... Who do you think could be so vicious as to stick so many needles in the Third Miss Tanner’s body?"
"Who knows..."
Hearing this, Claire Sinclair’s heart felt as if it had been slammed by a tidal wave, leaving a churning mess in its wake.
Ivy Tanner was pierced with 125 needles!!!
This is outrageous!
For a moment, Claire Sinclair wanted nothing more than to march right back and ask Ivy Tanner who did it.
But on second thought, she stopped herself.
Ethan Kingsley was the one who brought Ivy Tanner to the hospital, so he must have known about all this. Yet, the man showed no reaction whatsoever. Besides, Ivy had just refused her help. ’So why am I getting so worked up over nothing?’
