Chapter 462: You Were Powerful and Influential to Begin With
Claire could almost picture the looks on the faces of the 99 contestants when he arrived at the camp. All she had to do was sit back and enjoy the show.
Adrian Quincy was quick to freshen up. He neatened his appearance, changed into a black suit, and then the two of them got into their private car.
In the car, Claire was glued to her phone, engrossed in a chat with her best friend.
Adrian Quincy was starting to get a little bored. Seeing her completely absorbed in her phone and ignoring him, he felt a pang of jealousy. He reached out, snatched her phone away, and immediately pulled her into his arms.
"Claire, let me hold you."
"I want to be on my phone..."
"Let me hold you."
"My phone..."
In response, Adrian Quincy just held her tighter, showing no intention of giving the phone back.
Claire was truly exasperated with him. "Didn’t you hold me all night?" she said irritably. "Haven’t you had enough?"
"A lifetime of holding you wouldn’t be enough."
"..." ’He got me again.’
Claire let out a resigned sigh. "Why did you suddenly show up here?"
"No reason. I just suddenly missed you."
"I thought you’d be busy."
A slight smile touched Adrian Quincy’s lips. "You wouldn’t video call me, so I had to come see you in person."
"Next time you’re coming, please tell me in advance. I’m always the last one to find out."
"I came to find you right after my plane landed last night," Adrian admitted. "I wanted to surprise you."
"I..." Claire’s brow furrowed as she recalled being set up the previous night. "I was so careful last night, but I never thought the problem would be the cup."
"Once I find the person behind this, I’ll make them pay."
"So, have you found them?" Claire asked immediately.
Adrian Quincy nodded.
"Was it Cecily Taylor?"
"Yes and no."
Claire was confused. "What do you mean?"
"There’s no direct evidence proving she ordered it. We could only trace the person who administered the drug to her assistant. Your cup had the assistant’s fingerprints on it. I also found out that her assistant bought that aphrodisiac online."
Claire said irritably, "No wonder that woman is such a force in the entertainment industry and never falls. Her scheming is top-notch. If you hadn’t shown up when you did, I don’t think I could have handled it on my own."
"This industry has never been clean. The new artist ethics assessment will become more and more the norm. You just set a precedent, and I think you handled it beautifully."
Caught completely off guard by his praise, Claire felt a little flustered. "You watched the show?"
Adrian Quincy nodded. "You didn’t get enough screen time. I’ll go lodge a complaint."
’Lodge a complaint, my ass!’
Claire immediately shot that down. "Don’t you dare. I don’t want people saying I’m throwing my weight around."
"First of all, you’re not really part of this industry, so there’s no need for you to constantly put up with these people. Second, you are my wife, the lady of Quincy Manor. I’m just giving a little reminder to those who don’t know their place. You *are* powerful and influential."
He said it so matter-of-factly that Claire found it both amusing and touching. "Just... don’t be too blatant about it. I’d still like to keep a low profile."
Adrian Quincy leaned down and kissed her cheek, his smile as warm as a spring breeze. "It will be very low-key," he promised. "Don’t worry."
And by "very low-key," he apparently meant leading a group of thirty-some-odd, well-trained men in a surprise raid on the Shining Star camp.
When the director saw this spectacle, his face went pale with fright, and he almost didn’t dare to continue filming.
The contestants, unaware of the new arrivals, were still at the training ground set up by the production team, waiting for filming to resume.
