Ivy Tanner looked up and met her eyes. "You see, I’m truly at the end of my rope."

Claire Sinclair retorted, "There’s always a way out. Being alive isn’t about choosing how to die, but choosing how to live."

Ivy Tanner couldn’t help but laugh. "You have such a sharp tongue."

Claire Sinclair wasn’t bothered. "Mr. Quincy is just as sharp. I guess it’s rubbing off on me."

At that, Ivy Tanner stopped laughing. She even sounded a little envious. "You’re so lucky, it’s enviable."

But Claire Sinclair saw no jealousy in her eyes—only despair. "Enough talk," she said. "I’ve thought of a plan."

Ivy Tanner asked curiously, "What kind of plan?"

Claire Sinclair said, "Whatever it takes, you have to stick to Ethan Kingsley’s side and make it impossible for him to get rid of you. If he gets annoyed, just bring up my name. Tell him you want to call me. He generally won’t refuse to let you."

Ivy Tanner was confused. "Why wouldn’t he refuse?"

"Because starting today, I’m going to call him every single day to ask how you’re doing."

"..." Ivy Tanner was at a loss for words.

She never imagined Claire Sinclair would go this far to help her; she was overwhelmed by the gesture.

Claire Sinclair continued, "Ethan Kingsley has some... ill intentions toward me. My calling him like this will amuse him, but I don’t know how long that will last. The day he can no longer stand you will be the day I’ll have a reason to take you in. When you’re with me, no one will dare to hurt you."

"You’re going to take me in?" Ivy Tanner asked in disbelief.

Claire Sinclair replied calmly, "’Take you in’ is a strong word. I’m not thinking that far ahead. Once you’re with me, we’ll see what Mr. Quincy decides to do."

For a moment, Ivy Tanner was so overcome that she almost tried to get out of bed to kneel before her, but her body wouldn’t cooperate. The slight movement nearly sent her tumbling off the bed.

Claire Sinclair rushed to steady her. "What are you doing?"

"I wanted to kneel to thank you," Ivy Tanner said bluntly.

Claire Sinclair rolled her eyes at her. "Don’t thank me so soon. If you’re going to thank me, wait until this actually works. My suggestion is full of risks, so you need to be careful."

"I know. But thank you, anyway," Ivy Tanner said with sincere gratitude.

Claire Sinclair disliked such formalities. Her gaze fell on the container of porridge she’d brought, and she changed the subject. "The porridge is probably cold by now. You should eat."

"Okay." Ivy Tanner nodded, picked up the container, and began to eat her breakfast.

Claire Sinclair wasn’t in a hurry to leave. She took out her phone and sent a message to The Great Demon King Quincy: Mr. Quincy, has the shoot started yet?

He replied a while later: My part is done.

Claire: That fast???

Adrian Quincy: It’s just a promo video, it was simple. Still at the hospital?

Claire: Yep.

Adrian Quincy: I’m heading over.

Claire: Great!

He didn’t reply after that.

Claire Sinclair then opened up social media and started scrolling.

Ivy Tanner finished her porridge. Seeing Claire engrossed in her phone, she couldn’t help but ask, "After everything I’ve told you, you don’t doubt me at all?"

Without looking up, Claire Sinclair said nonchalantly, "A person’s eyes don’t lie. Especially the look in the eyes of someone who’s had similar experiences. Lying to me wouldn’t do you any good, and I have nothing to lose."

Ivy Tanner smiled. "You have such a simple worldview."

Claire Sinclair took it as a compliment. "I just don’t want to see the world as overly complicated. That would be too exhausting."

"That’s true. A fool’s world is a carefree one." Even though she was only pretending to be one, Ivy Tanner had always secretly enjoyed the experience.
