Chapter 492: Allergy
Coco asked with concern, "Mimi, what’s wrong?"
Mimi Fisher struggled to lift his arm. He looked at his reddening skin and frowned. "There’s something in the wine. Claire Sinclair, don’t drink it! Coco, get me to a hospital, now."
Hearing this, Master’s face fell. He asked urgently, "What do you mean, ’something’?"
Mimi Fisher fought through the pain, gritting his teeth. "I’m allergic to aphrodisiacs. You probably were, too. It’s definitely the wine. Professor Taylor was fine after drinking, so it has to be the wine in Claire Sinclair’s glass that’s the problem..."
Before he could finish, he collapsed, his body starting to convulse as he foamed at the mouth.
Coco was horrified. "Stop talking! I’m taking you to the hospital right now!"
She immediately found others to help carry Mimi Fisher away from the scene.
His face flushed, Master glared at Cecily Taylor. Fighting his own discomfort, he hissed, "Professor Taylor, there’s something wrong with your wine."
Utterly mortified, Cecily Taylor apologized profusely. "I’m so sorry, it was my negligence. How are you feeling right now?"
"Not great," Master snapped, then turned to the silent Claire Sinclair. "Professor Sinclair, don’t eat or drink anything here. I’m heading out."
Claire Sinclair walked a few steps with him. "Master, let me walk you to the door."
Master nodded.
Cecily Taylor saw them and quietly followed.
They soon reached the entrance, and Claire Sinclair saw Master into his car.
Before leaving, Master warned her gravely, "Mimi told me that Cecily Taylor was planning to target you at her party. You have to be careful. That glass of wine was likely just the beginning."
Claire Sinclair said softly, "I know. You need to get to the hospital."
"Alright, I’m off. Take care." Master closed the car door, and it quickly drove away.
Claire Sinclair’s eyes narrowed, her hands clenching into fists.
’Cecily Taylor, I can’t believe you’d stoop to such a despicable trick. Good thing I’m too smart for you!’
While she was lost in thought, Cecily Taylor came up behind her. "Professor Sinclair, I am so sorry. I had no idea there was a problem with the wine. I’ve already had it all taken away. I really am so sorry."
Claire Sinclair whirled around to face her, her expression blank. "Professor Taylor, I don’t mean to lecture you, but serving wine is a pillar of our Aridian hospitality. How could you serve your guests something like this? Thank God I didn’t drink it. If I had, wouldn’t I have ended up just like those two?"
Cecily Taylor was furious, mortified at being caught red-handed. Since she couldn’t confess, she could only offer a lame apology. "I’m truly sorry. Please, come back inside. Let me apologize properly."
Claire Sinclair flatly refused. "I’m sorry, but I won’t be going back inside. However, I will have other people go in. There was something wrong with your wine, and I can’t rule out that someone was trying to harm me. I’m a very suspicious person, and I can’t stand it when people resort to dirty tricks. Aphrodisiacs are a highly illegal substance in Aridia. For one to show up here, it means someone is up to no good, and I have to find the person behind this."
Hearing this, Cecily Taylor started to panic. "Professor Sinclair, please don’t! It’s my birthday party. If you send people in, it’ll make everyone suspicious..."
Claire Sinclair cut her off. "I’m not sending anyone in; I don’t have that authority. The Quincy Manor staff will go in for me. If they didn’t, it would mean they were condoning a crime, and that’s something Quincy Manor would never do."
