I Married the President

Chapter 508: A Strange Phone Call

Ethan Kingsley slid his phone back into his pocket and said unhappily, "I told you, go to sleep right now."

Ivy Tanner gazed into his dark eyes as a barely perceptible despair clouded her own. Suddenly, she grinned, pointed at his nose, and asked, "Brother Kingsley, will you marry me?"

Ethan Kingsley pinched her nose. "We’ll talk about it when you’re all grown up. For now, you need to lie down and sleep."

"Okay!" Ivy Tanner obediently lay down, closed her eyes, and forced back the tears that threatened to spill.

’Perhaps... there really was no one in this world who could save her.’

’Not even the man sitting before her—her ex-fiancé, the man she once trusted above all others.’

’In this world, miracles simply didn’t exist.’

......

「In the dead of night.」

When Adrian Quincy finally returned, Claire immediately grabbed his hand. "Mr. Quincy, Third Miss Tanner gave me a very strange call at midnight."

"What kind of call?" Adrian Quincy asked, curious.

Ever since Claire became a journalist, she’d set her phone to automatically record her calls. She played the recording for him.

After listening, Adrian Quincy frowned and remained silent.

Claire couldn’t help but ask, "What are you thinking?"

"If Third Miss Tanner was asking you for help, she might genuinely be in trouble. You’re free tomorrow, so you should take a few people and go check on her."

Claire immediately protested, "Who says I have nothing to do? I want to go to the camp with you and watch you film your show."

Adrian Quincy shook his head gently. "Claire, a few years ago, I witnessed Third Miss Tanner being pinned to the ground by her cousins while they tried to force her to eat dog food. I happened to be there and saved her. A person like her... she’s truly pitiful."

"What?" Claire was stunned.

Adrian added, "I didn’t think much about the full story back then, but looking at it now, there must be more going on with Third Miss Tanner. She came to you instead of me, probably because she considered my dynamic with Ethan Kingsley. You’re a journalist; you should get involved in things that warrant it."

"Okay." Claire finally agreed.

If he hadn’t told her about seeing Third Miss Tanner being forced to eat dog food, she might have stayed out of it. But now that he had, she was determined to see this through.

-

Early the next morning, Claire had breakfast with Adrian Quincy in the hotel restaurant, after which she intended to find Third Miss Tanner and get to the bottom of things.

Just as they were leaving the restaurant, they saw Ethan Kingsley emerge from the elevator by himself.

They stopped.

Ethan Kingsley walked over, pausing to greet them politely. "Good morning, you two."

Claire immediately asked him, "Where’s Third Miss Tanner?"

Ethan Kingsley paused for a moment. "Why are you looking for her?"

Claire said casually, "Mr. Quincy won’t let me visit the set, and I’m bored all by myself at the hotel. I was just looking for some company."

Ethan Kingsley thought for a moment, then a smile touched his lips. "The Little Idiot is in the hospital. It would be good for you to go keep her company. She’s at First Hospital, room 605. If you go, could you do me a favor and bring her some light food?"

"In the hospital?" Surprise flashed in Claire’s eyes. "But wasn’t she fine yesterday?"

"Ah, her..." Ethan Kingsley smiled. "She’s never really been okay."

As he spoke, his gaze suddenly shifted to Adrian Quincy. "Young Master Quincy, it’s about time. Shall we head over together?"

Adrian Quincy nodded lightly, then lowered his gaze to his wife’s face. "Claire, don’t stay out too long. Come back early."

Claire nodded obediently. "Okay. You too."

Adrian Quincy leaned down slightly and kissed her on the lips, then turned and walked toward the door.

Ethan Kingsley followed him out.
