I Married the President

The contestant who left the deepest impression on Claire Sinclair was Leonard Bishop. His performance was quite different from everyone else’s.

After setting out, Leonard Bishop sat on a roadside bench for a long time, doing nothing.

The cameraman curiously asked him why he was just sitting there. Leonard Bishop replied, "I think putting on a deliberate show is meaningless. Casually asking someone if they need help, or even giving a passerby directions, counts as a good deed. But these are things anyone should do if they see the need. Why should we use them to trade for fame and fortune?"

Hearing Leonard Bishop’s words, Claire Sinclair also fell into a moment of reflection. ’The production team must have considered this angle when they arranged this assessment.’

’So, this assessment actually has another hidden objective: what the contestants gain from the experience.’

Without a doubt, Leonard Bishop’s answer was the correct one—a textbook-perfect answer, in fact.

Unfortunately, contestants who could think on that level were few and far between.

After deliberately helping a few people, several contestants also found a secluded spot to either sit or squat, hanging their heads in silence.

These contestants had also come to a realization. They ended up telling the camera that they had been too performative, and some even wanted to voluntarily withdraw from the assessment.

However, after sitting by the roadside for over an hour, Leonard Bishop finally seemed to figure something out. He stood up and walked into the bustling downtown area.

He didn’t stop along the way and walked with a clear purpose. He soon arrived at a hospital, found the blood donation center, and had a doctor draw a bag of his blood.

The doctor didn’t thank him, but simply gave him a blood donation certificate and mentioned a few things to keep in mind.

Coming out of the hospital, Leonard Bishop looked up at the sky. It was getting dark, and there were less than two hours left until the end of the assessment.

Just then, he saw a crowd gathered outside the emergency building, and he couldn’t tell what was happening.

Leonard Bishop walked over and squeezed through the crowd. He saw a weathered, middle-aged man with salt-and-pepper hair crouching on the ground, holding his head and sobbing uncontrollably.

Someone asked him what happened, and he cried, "It’s gone! Everything’s gone! The life-saving money is gone... I’m finished..."

A kind passerby explained, "His wife is sick, and his child was in a car accident. They need money. He scraped together tens of thousands, planning to save his child first, but the money disappeared in the hospital. We told him to call the police, but he won’t go. He just stays here crying. Sigh... what an unfortunate soul."

Hearing this, Leonard Bishop’s expression immediately darkened. He pushed to the front and forcefully pulled the middle-aged man to his feet. "Sir, crying won’t solve anything. I’ll take you to the police station to file a report. As long as there’s a glimmer of hope, you can’t give up. Your family is waiting for that money to save their lives."

The weathered man was stunned for a moment. Without a word, he silently followed him.

The two went to the police station nearest the hospital. Since filming wasn’t allowed inside, no one knew what happened between them in there.

After filing the report, Leonard Bishop and the weathered man came out and took shelter by the entrance of the police station.

The man was no longer crying, but his face was still filled with despair.

Leonard Bishop suddenly looked up and said to the cameraman, "Hey man, can I borrow your phone? I want to call my brother. He has some money he should be able to lend me."

"Sure, here you go." The cameraman generously lent him his phone.

Before making the call, Leonard Bishop said to the cameraman, "Stop filming. I’m not doing this anymore. I’m withdrawing from today’s assessment."

The cameraman couldn’t help but ask, "Why?"
