Chapter 190: Insisting on Looking for a Man in the Trash
The members of the Jennings family all widened their eyes in unison, their faces a mask of horror that screamed, "Are we supposed to be hearing this?"
Luckily, Arabella Donovan was too engrossed in the drama surrounding Yara Ulrich’s biological father’s family to notice their strange reactions.
Speaking of Yara’s biological father, he was the scum of the earth—a textbook villain who would stop at nothing to achieve his goals.
He and Mrs. Ulrich had a relationship back in the day; they were each other’s first love. But at the time, he hadn’t yet taken over his family’s company. With several brothers eyeing the business greedily, he stood no chance, lacking both the status and favoritism from his parents. So, he had to forge a different path, choosing an arranged marriage with the young lady of a prominent family who had powerful backing.
Mrs. Ulrich’s background clearly wasn’t good enough, so he decisively abandoned her and married a woman who could help his career instead.
That’s right. Yara’s biological father had his own family and never once considered divorcing his current wife to let Yara and her mother take her place. All his sweet nothings were just lies to deceive the mother-daughter pair.
After using his wife’s family connections to defeat his brothers and take control of his own family’s company, this scumbag of a first love discovered that his old flame was now married and had already borne her husband two children.
The two ran into each other unexpectedly at a private dinner party, each with a new partner by their side.
But perhaps it’s just human nature to be perverse; the one that got away always causes a stir, not to mention they were each other’s unforgettable first love.
One was intent on seducing, the other had no intention of refusing. And just like that, an uncontrollable passion ignited, and Yara Ulrich was conceived.
Arabella’s face was a picture of utter bewilderment.
’I really don’t get this Mrs. Ulrich. She had a stable, reliable, and deeply devoted man like Mr. Ulrich, but she just had to go digging for a man in a dumpster—and the scumbag she found was the one who’d abandoned her before. Is it really true that "women love bad boys"? Surely not!’
The three men of the Jennings family nodded in deep agreement, then suddenly turned to look at Mrs. Jennings, their eyes asking: *Is that really how it is?*
A vein throbbed on Mrs. Jennings’s forehead. If not for Arabella’s presence, she would have loved to give each of the three men a good headbutt.
’How could that be possible? Only a blind woman would make that choice! Why would someone with normal vision like me enjoy picking through trash in a dumpster?’
As it turned out, Mrs. Ulrich’s actions showed everyone that she absolutely loved it!
For just a few sweet words, she became her first love’s secret mistress for over twenty years, bore him Yara as proof of their affair, and even treated the girl as the precious fruit of their love. She doted on Yara to the extreme while giving the cold shoulder to the two children she had borne before.
Unfortunately, this was all just her own wishful thinking.
The incident Arabella had just mentioned was because some old CEO in his seventies or eighties had taken a fancy to Yara. This CEO held resources that Yara’s biological father desperately needed.
On top of that, his actual wife had borne him a son and a daughter, who were the true apples of his eye. Yara was just an illegitimate daughter. Sacrificing her was no big deal; there was really nothing to agonize over.
This damn scumbag was as shameless as they come, without a shred of guilt.
But for Yara, who had known her origins from a young age and had been constantly brainwashed by her mother about how much her biological father loved her and was only unable to acknowledge her due to circumstances, this was a devastating blow.
Arabella: "..." It was... hard to even comment.
’That poor kid must have had the worst luck for eight lifetimes to be born to a scumbag and a shameless woman like you!’
Of course, this was no excuse for Yara to be obsessed with destroying Chloe Ulrich and dragging her down with her.
At first, Yara wanted to push Chloe to be her scapegoat, to have her wade into these muddy waters in her place.
But after she subtly hinted for the old CEO to pay attention to Chloe, she discovered he was a ravenous pervert!
When it came to beautiful women like them, he wasn’t picky at all.
Chloe could go, but compared to her looks, Yara’s appearance was clearly more to his taste.
In other words, even if she framed Chloe to take the fall for her, she couldn’t escape either.
Crushed by this cruel reality and the collapse of her long-held beliefs, Yara inevitably went down a dark path.
She resented her biological father’s heartlessness and her mother’s foolishness and lack of self-respect. But she lacked the power and courage to retaliate against them, so she vented all her resentment and fury on Chloe.
’We’re both Mrs. Ulrich’s daughters, so why is she the legitimate Miss Ulrich, while I’m just the product of an affair, an unpresentable illegitimate child who has to live in constant fear that my identity will one day be exposed, leaving me homeless?’
’Why does she get to have such a perfect father, to receive such perfect love from her own father, while I’m treated so cruelly by mine?’
Jealousy, resentment, grievance, indignation... Bit by bit, these feelings devoured her sanity, causing her to see Chloe as an imaginary enemy. She went to great lengths to drag her down, to stain her reputation and make her family despise her, just to prove to herself that she wasn’t as pathetic as she thought.
Arabella felt deep sympathy for her plight, but as for her actions, she only had one thing to say...
’{Psycho! Every injustice has a perpetrator. If you have the guts, hate that old bastard. At the very least, hate your beast of a father and your brain-dead mother. What’s the deal with hating Miss Ulrich, who has doted on you since you were little? And "why does she get to have a great father like Dad Ulrich"? Of course it’s because she’s Dad Ulrich’s biological daughter.}’
’{Poor Dad Ulrich was already pitiful enough for being cheated on by your mother. He unknowingly raised you as his own daughter, giving you just as much love and material support as he gave Miss Ulrich. And what did he get in return? You trying every trick in the book to destroy his real daughter. It’s infuriating! It’s that absurd, speechless feeling of having poured your heart out for a dog. So, after all this, you don’t dare raise your blade against the scumbags who bullied and wronged you—you just stab all the people who were good to you instead. If that isn’t a BACKSTABBING WOLF, then what is?!}’
The Jennings family subconsciously nodded. Exactly, exactly, she was an ungrateful wolf who repaid kindness with malice!
After consuming all the gossip about this family of lunatics and their backstabbing wolf, Arabella truly understood what "it takes all kinds" meant.
She cleared her throat and said bluntly, "Pardon my bluntness, but I’m afraid the ’betrayal by a relative’ Miss Ulrich is facing will come from her sister. It’s just... not my place to tell them..."
’{That backstabbing sister sees that Miss Ulrich’s scumbag ex-boyfriend is useless, so she’s preparing to do the deed herself. And she’s changed the plan from a honey trap to directly handing Miss Ulrich over to that old bastard as her scapegoat. If Miss Ulrich isn’t on guard against her at all, she might really fall into her trap.}’
Brandon Jennings’s eyes narrowed. He said in a low voice, "Mm, don’t worry. I’ll think this over and find a way to discreetly let the two siblings know."
