The journey to the Darkness Ruin took several hours.

Unlike the Unaspected Ruin, which had been located on a broad plateau among several other ancient structures, the Darkness Ruin was farther from the capital.

They traveled through a narrow mountain valley before eventually reaching a massive black cliff. The entrance had been carved directly into the mountain.

Unlike the other elemental ruins, there was no obvious display of power. Instead, the area around the entrance simply seemed darker.

The sunlight reached the mountain, yet the stone surrounding the doorway remained covered in deep shadows.

Lilith stopped.

She immediately felt it even without getting too close to the entrance. It was pure darkness not shadow; there was a difference.

She could feel it almost instinctively. Her own power reacted. The shadows around her feet moved slightly.

Draco noticed.

"You feel it."

Lilith nodded.

"Yes."

"Good."

They approached the entrance. Lilith stared into it. The darkness beyond wasn’t ordinary darkness. It felt deep, ancient, and almost alive.

She could sense countless layers of Dark Aether compressed within the ruin. Her heart began beating slightly faster from excitement.

Draco noticed the change in her expression.

"You understand now."

Lilith smiled.

"I do."

"This is why I suggested it."

She stepped closer.

"How long can I stay?"

"As long as you need."

"And if I encounter a trial?"

"Complete it."

"If I fail?"

"Leave."

Lilith nodded.

Draco stopped several steps behind her.

"One more thing."

She looked back.

"Yes?"

"The ruin may not teach you what you expect."

Lilith smiled.

"I’ve learned not to expect anything from ancient ruins."

Draco laughed.

"Then you’re already better prepared than most."

Lilith turned toward the entrance.

For a moment, she thought about Atheline. She wondered what he was seeing inside his own ruin. Whether he was fighting something. Whether he was learning something. Whether he had discovered another fragment of the ancient world.

She couldn’t know.

But she could become stronger while waiting. And if the Darkness Ruin truly contained knowledge that could take her understanding of darkness beyond her current mastery, then she would not waste the opportunity.

Lilith stepped forward.

The darkness immediately swallowed her. Unlike Atheline’s departure, there was no sudden disappearance. Instead, the shadows seemed to welcome her.

Her figure faded slowly until only her eyes remained visible for a brief instant, then even those disappeared.

Draco stood outside the entrance. He watched the darkness for several seconds.

"Two ancient ruins." He looked toward the sky. "Two powerful individuals."

His expression became thoughtful.

There was something unusual happening that even a Sovereign could feel it. The world was changing, and these two seemed to be walking directly into the middle of it.

Draco turned away. For now, there was nothing more he could do.

Inside the Darkness Ruin, Lilith opened her eyes. The world was black. She could feel Dark Aether everywhere. It wasn’t flowing like normal Aether but was surrounding her. Waiting for her first reaction.

Lilith slowly raised her hand.

A small shadow formed above her palm, then she felt something deeper beneath it. Something she had never touched before.

Her smile widened.

"So this is darkness..."

Lilith took another step forward. The moment she took the step forward, everything disappeared. Not the darkness but her senses.

She stopped immediately. For the first time since entering the ruin, Lilith felt something she hadn’t experienced in years.

Helplessness.

Her eyes were open, but seeing had become meaningless. There was no difference between opening them and closing them. She could see nothing, not even the outline of her own hands.

She tried to sense Aether, still nothing. She tried to reach for her shadows, also nothing. Jer connection to the darkness around her had vanished.

Lilith remained completely still. She attempted to teleport but nothing happened. She tried again still the same results.

Her expression slowly hardened.

This wasn’t suppression, it was removal. The ruin hadn’t blocked her powers, it had taken them away. Lilith raised her hand and tried to summon even the smallest shadow.

Nothing answered.

For several seconds, she simply stood there, then she heard something.

A faint sound, but it was her own breathing, and that was all. She swallowed.

Standing alone inside absolute darkness without even the ability to sense her surroundings made her feel more vulnerable than any battlefield ever had.

She took another step, and her foot touched stone. The sound echoed, then disappeared. She took another step. The sound echoed then vanished.

She stopped.

There was something deeply unnatural about the place. The darkness wasn’t merely preventing her from seeing. It seemed to be swallowing every attempt she made to understand it.

Lilith slowly closed her eyes but there was no difference. For perhaps the first time in her life, she realized how much she depended on her senses.

She had always been able to feel the flow of Aether. She could detect movement through shadows. She could sense changes in darkness. Even when she couldn’t see an enemy, her powers could tell her where they were.

Here, none of that existed; she was simply Lilith and nothing more. She took another step, then another. The floor remained beneath her feet. That was the only certainty she had.

She continued walking.

She didn’t know how long she had been moving; minutes, maybe hours, perhaps longer. Even her sense of time seemed to be fading.

At some point, Lilith stopped.

She felt something beneath her feet. A small crack in the stone.

She crouched, her fingers touching the floor. It was cold, rough, and real. She slowly ran her fingertips along the surface.

The texture changed slightly, then changed again. She continued touching the ground. Her breathing gradually became calmer; if she couldn’t see, she would feel.

Lilith stood again.

She continued walking. The darkness remained absolute but something began changing. At first, she thought it was her imagination.

The darkness didn’t feel as empty anymore. There was something inside it, something more fundamental.

She stopped and listened, still nothing. She touched the wall beside her, it was cold, but beneath the cold, she felt something.

A faint pressure.

She removed her hand, then touched it again.

’What is this?’

It wasn’t Aether. At least, not in the way she understood Aether. It was deeper.

Lilith closed her eyes and allowed her mind to become quiet. She stopped trying to summon her powers, trying to sense the darkness, and trying to understand what the ruin wanted.

Instead, she simply stood there, and felt.

The darkness surrounded her. It didn’t attack or threaten; it simply existed.

Lilith’s breathing slowed.

She began to understand something. For years, she had treated darkness as something she controlled. She created shadows, manipulated them, moved through them, and used them as weapons.

She had always thought of darkness as an extension of her will. But darkness didn’t need her; it existed before her and it would exist after her. It wasn’t something that needed to obey; it simply was.

Lilith opened her eyes.

Nothing changed. Uet somehow, she felt as though she could almost see. Not with her eyes, with something deeper. She sensed the empty space around her, through absence.

She suddenly understood why shadows had always been so easy for her. A shadow was defined by something; an object blocking illumination.

But darkness was different. Darkness did not require something to create it. It could exist without light ever having touched the place.

She slowly raised her hand but nothing appeared. Normally, a shadow would gather around her fingers but now there was nothing.

Yet she smiled.

She understood. The absence of her power didn’t mean darkness was absent. It meant she had finally been forced to stop using her power as a crutch.

She sat down on the cold stone, her legs crossed with her hands resting on her knees.

Lilith began meditating.

She let her thoughts settle. And the memories of her battles slowly surfaced. The first time she had discovered her affinity for darkness. The first shadow she had created. The first person she had defeated with it. The countless techniques she had developed. The moments when her shadows had failed. The times when she had forced more and more power into them.

She remembered every victory, every mistake, every time she had thought she understood darkness, and now she realized that she had understood only herself; not darkness.

The realization frightened her... because it was true. She had spent so long mastering shadows that she had mistaken mastery of an expression for mastery of the source.

Lilith breathed in, then slowly exhaled. The darkness seemed to become heavier. She didn’t resist it and let it surround her.

For the first time, she didn’t attempt to control it. She simply existed within it. And something changed.

She couldn’t see it or sense it, but she felt it. The darkness wasn’t empty; it had no voice, no shape, and no emotion. Yet it possessed a law.

A principle.

A fundamental existence that didn’t need permission.

Lilith’s mind became still. Darkness did not mean evil, it did not mean shadows and it did not mean destruction. Darkness was the absence of light, but it was also the space where light had never existed.

It was concealment, silence, depth, unknown, and possibility. The more she thought about it, the more the concept expanded.

She realized that her shadows had always depended on something else. Darkness itself didn’t.

That was the difference.
