Chapter 511: You Don’t Trust Me
Qiao Xixi paused. Huang Yue had said before that Kunlin was back to normal. ’Normal’ should mean that Yun Ming had been extracted from Kunlin’s body. Otherwise, Huang Yue wouldn’t have taken him straight back, but would have gone to find Yun Ji instead.
However, Feiyan’s question made Qiao Xixi a little uneasy.
"Sprite, has Yun Ming, the one who took over Kunlin’s body, left?"
"Host, I haven’t detected any monstrous auras near the tribe. Of course, I can’t guarantee there are none. If a monster hides its aura within a beastman’s body or integrates its energy into their blood and bones, I can’t detect it."
"If you’re worried, Host, you can try using the purifying Sacrificial Dance. If Yun Ming is still there, he will definitely be purified and expelled when you perform the dance."
Sprite couldn’t give a definitive answer either.
"Okay, I understand."
Qiao Xixi looked at Feiyan and said, "I’m not sure either, but I can test it in a little while."
Hearing this, Feiyan nodded. "Alright."
Qiao Xixi helped the kids finish making breakfast, and just as they finished eating, Feili returned.
"Feili Father Beast, you’re back! We saved you some breakfast. Qiao Ang and the others made it!"
Qiao Ang proudly lifted his small, round chin. "It’s not that amazing, but it will definitely be the best breakfast Grandfather has ever eaten."
Feili found his little expression absolutely endearing. "Then Grandfather will have to savor every bite."
After speaking, Feili looked at Qiao Xixi. "Xixi, Feiyan said you’re going to see Kunlin. He’s already waiting for you outside the inner city gate."
Qiao Xixi nodded. "Alright, I’ll go now."
She told the kids to be good and stay with Feili in the inner city, then left.
When she reached the inner city gate, she saw Feiyan waiting. As she approached, he turned and walked over to her.
"I had someone take him to the patrol team’s stone rest house. It’s a bit far, so I’ll carry you."
Qiao Xixi wanted to refuse, but she was worried Kunlin had something urgent to discuss, so she nodded and let Feiyan lift her into the crook of his arm.
She lightly held onto Feiyan’s shoulder to steady herself.
It had to be said, Feiyan was tall with long legs, and he walked with both speed and stability. In the blink of an eye, they arrived outside the stone house.
"The Clan Leader is here."
The beastman guarding the door saw Qiao Xixi and stepped forward to bow.
Qiao Xixi nodded and patted Feiyan’s shoulder, signaling for him to put her down.
Although Feiyan put Qiao Xixi down, he kept hold of her hand, glaring coldly at the approaching Kunlin as if declaring his sovereignty.
Kunlin’s gaze swept fleetingly over their tightly clasped hands, a hint of coldness in his eyes. His face was expressionless as he simply nodded at Qiao Xixi.
Qiao Xixi also gave a slight nod. "Let’s talk inside."
Kunlin was the first to turn and enter the house.
Once inside, Qiao Xixi felt Feiyan’s grip on her hand tighten. She gave his fingertips a reassuring squeeze, causing his breath to catch. He responded by gently taking hold of her fingers, stopping her from fidgeting further.
Kunlin impassively watched their interaction, a strange glint flashing briefly in his eyes.
"Kunlin, did you come here today to tell us something?"
Kunlin snapped back to reality and nodded. "Not long after the City Lord and I returned to Wing Beast City, we discovered monsters outside the city. The City Lord was worried that monsters might have followed you back as well, so he sent me to check on things here."
Qiao Xixi was a little surprised. "Monsters have appeared in Wing Beast City, too?"
Kunlin nodded with a grave expression. "The City Lord has already sent someone to Beast King City to inform the Holy Priest. We hope the Holy Priest can dispatch the Beast Guards to handle this problem."
’The Beast Guards are powerful and have been dealing with monsters for years. Having them come help is indeed an excellent choice. How did I not think of that before?’
"You just said ’too.’ Does that mean monsters have appeared here in the tribe as well?"
"Yes," Qiao Xixi affirmed. "Yesterday, we discovered that a monster had killed one of our clansmen. We’re dispatching people to track it down now."
"Was it a Wing Clan monster?"
Before Qiao Xixi could speak, Feiyan cut in, "How did you know it was a Wing Clan monster? Have you seen one?"
Kunlin affirmed with a cold expression, "The monsters that appeared in Wing Beast City can fly. That’s why I’ve come this time—to help you capture them."
"Do you have a way to find these monsters?"
Kunlin shook his head. "I only know that the monsters need to consume large amounts of raw meat and fresh blood. We can expand the patrol range around the tribe. A weakness is bound to show up eventually."
"Thank you for staying to help. I’ll have someone arrange lodging for you."
Kunlin’s expression faltered. "No need. I’ll just stay in my old room."
Previously, he had lived in the inner city.
Feiyan raised an eyebrow. "That room is being used for storage now. It wouldn’t be convenient for you to stay there. There are plenty of other stone houses in the tribe. Take your pick."
Kunlin’s brow darkened for a moment, and his gaze grew even colder. "Any room will do. I’m going to go look around outside the tribe for a bit to see if I can find anything."
With that, Kunlin stood up to leave the house.
Qiao Xixi had been observing Kunlin’s expression the whole time and found that his words and actions were no different from when he was in the tribe before.
"Kunlin, there’s something I want to ask you."
Kunlin stopped and glanced sideways at her. "Go ahead."
"Before, Yun Ming took over your body. I want to know, how was he eventually expelled from it?"
Kunlin lowered his gaze, his voice devoid of any warmth. "That day, I felt his energy weakening, so I took the opportunity to reclaim my body."
"And after that? He never appeared in your body again?"
Kunlin suddenly turned back, his dark eyes staring straight into Qiao Xixi’s.
Seeing this, Feiyan tightened his grip on Qiao Xixi’s hand and pulled her protectively into his arms, watching Kunlin with a wary gaze.
Kunlin’s lips suddenly curled, but there was no trace of a smile in his eyes. "Xixi, are you doubting me?"
Faced with his direct question, Qiao Xixi didn’t flinch. She simply said, "I’m puzzled. And of course, I’m also worried that if he’s still in your body, it could be harmful to you. I have a way to verify whether he’s still there. Do you want to try it?"
As her voice fell, a sudden silence descended upon the room.
Just as Qiao Xixi thought Kunlin was about to refuse, he suddenly nodded.
"Alright."
Qiao Xixi hadn’t expected him to agree so readily.
She turned to Feiyan and said, "Feiyan, please move the tables and chairs out of the house. I need more space."
Feiyan nodded, called over two beastmen from the patrol team, and they cleared everything out of the house in a single trip.
Qiao Xixi had Kunlin stand in the middle of the room. Then, she bit her finger, smeared a drop of blood on his brow, and began to chant an incantation.
As she chanted, Qiao Xixi slowly raised her hands, swayed her hips, and began to circle around Kunlin.
She was now performing the purifying Sacrificial Dance. If Yun Ming was still hiding in Kunlin’s body, he would surely be purified by her.
As Qiao Xixi danced, Kunlin’s expression suddenly turned ugly.
