Chapter 302 - 176: Truly Too Innocent
Hearing them say that, Shen Yuan couldn’t help but chime in, "Damn, I’m so jealous."
Humans are basically just walking parrots.
But the moment the words left his mouth, he was surrounded by looks of contempt.
"Hey, don’t just call me out! Go ask Ah Ze and Chen Mingyu if they have any!" Shen Yuan said, trying to deflect the conversation toward Yang Ze and Chen Mingyu.
As soon as he spoke, Yang Ze and Chen Mingyu, who were standing nearby, seemed to share a single thought. They both made a tactical move—glancing around before quickly lowering their heads, pretending they hadn’t heard a thing.
"I knew you guys would be useless! You’re infuriating!" Shen Yuan snapped, annoyed at the sight.
Ah Jie pointed an accusing finger at Shen Yuan, filled with righteous indignation. "Especially you, Shen Yuan! You’re a founding member of our Wild History Society! How can you be such a slacker? It’s truly disappointing!"
In the face of Ah Jie’s accusation, Shen Yuan just shrugged, looking unconcerned.
In his mind, wild history was interesting, sure, but how could it possibly compare to someone as adorable as Li Bao?
’Li Bao is so sweet-smelling and soft. Hugging her... Hmm... even through a blanket, she’s still so sweet-smelling and soft.’
Just then, however, Yang Ze let out a soft cough, drawing everyone’s attention.
Ah Ze was smiling. "I may not have collected any wild history," he began, "but I did find something really fun."
"What is it?" the others asked eagerly.
A mysterious smile played on Ah Ze’s lips as he slowly announced, "Matching couplets!"
A mysterious smile touched Yang Ze’s lips as he began, "Heaven against earth, rain against wind. The mainland against the vast sky; mountain flowers against sea-borne trees; the crimson sun against the azure dome."
"I’ll give the first line, you give the second. What do you say? Feeling confident?"
Ah Jie’s eyes lit up, his spirits instantly soaring. "Bring it on! Today, I’ll show you what a true Couplet King can do!"
The moment Ah Jie finished speaking, Yang Ze recited his line: "In the classroom, no dragon’s song, no tiger’s roar; the pint-sized Ph.D. is a laughable, laughable bore."
As he finished, the corner of everyone’s mouth twitched.
"Holy crap! Is that even a proper couplet?!"
Yang Ze chuckled. "I’ve made my move, you Arknights trash! Your turn!"
Ah Jie’s mind raced, but before he could speak, Shen Yuan interjected from the side: "On the battlefield, no gun’s report, no cannon’s boom; the high-and-mighty Reunion is filled with timid, timid gloom."
"Brilliant!!" Ah Jie immediately burst into applause.
Seeing Shen Yuan come up with a match, Yang Ze’s competitive spirit was ignited. He addressed the other three, "I’ve got another one! Listen up, everyone!"
"One day, two sessions, farming three kinds of chips; not enough for four levels, five elites, or six masteries. Seven, eight, nine white bags from recruitment; a perfect ten on the F2P misery scale!"
When he finished, Ah Jie and Chen Mingyu’s eyes once again turned to Shen Yuan.
Shen Yuan thought for a moment, then replied, "Ten pulls yield nine golds, gathering eight new recruits; tell seven clans, six pals, and five of your mates. Post it online four, three, and two more times; a number-one whale, blessed by fate!"
"Incredible!!" Ah Jie and Chen Mingyu erupted in excited, deafening applause.
"Alright, alright, I refuse to believe it!" Yang Ze shot back, refusing to be outdone. "With superior style, I reveal the heart of a tiger."
"You, next game as Yasuo, dashing your way to nine reports."
"Are we switching games now?" Ah Jie asked, momentarily stunned and confused. "But why do I still feel like I’m the one getting insulted?"
Chen Mingyu nodded with a smile. "It’s not just a feeling, you feeder Yasuo."
"The hell!"
Ah Jie was triggered.
But if anyone was more triggered than Ah Jie, it was actually Yang Ze.
It was obvious Yang Ze had come prepared. He thought he could easily crush his friends, but he never expected Shen Yuan to catch him completely off guard.
"Damn it! You Arknights-loving bastards are the worst!" Yang Ze roared, furious.
"Alas! We simple memelords are rather cute!"
Shen Yuan replied at a leisurely pace, an inscrutable look on his face as if to say he wasn’t bothered by Yang Ze’s anger in the slightest. Bring on whatever you’ve got.
Yang Ze waved his hands dismissively. "No, you don’t have to match that one!"
"Oh."
Yang Ze was silent for a moment before saying slowly, "Let’s just stick to normal ones. Enough with all the weird meme stuff."
Shen Yuan nodded thoughtfully in agreement.
"Alright, then," Shen Yuan said. "Let’s have Ah Jie take a turn."
The moment he spoke, an excited look appeared on Ah Jie’s face. His eyes glittered with anticipation as he stared intently at Yang Ze.
Yang Ze smiled faintly and said, "The four treasures of the study."
Ah Jie paused for a second when he heard it, but he quickly recovered and began to think of a matching line.
But as he racked his brain, his mind suddenly drew a blank. He just couldn’t think of a suitable response.
"’Civil’ matches ’martial,’ ’study’ matches... huh, what matches ’study’?" Ah Jie muttered to himself, his brow deeply furrowed.
Just as Ah Jie was struggling, Chen Mingyu, who was standing nearby, suddenly spoke up: "The eight delicacies of the imperial court."
"That works!" Yang Ze couldn’t help but give a thumbs-up, full of praise for Chen Mingyu’s answer.
Then, all eyes turned to Ah Jie, as if waiting to see how he would respond.
Ah Jie was chewing on his fingernails, his brow furrowed in anxiety.
After about half a minute, Ah Jie finally said, a bit uncertainly, "The three armies of the training ground?"
Yang Ze thought about it for a moment, then said with a smile, "Hmm, I guess that’s not bad."
Seeing this, Shen Yuan also nodded in approval.
Then, Yang Ze turned to look at Shen Yuan with a smile. "Now that Ah Jie and Chen Mingyu have had a go, Shen Yuan, it’s your turn."
