Chapter 243 - 122: Harvest and the Truth
Xu Lei activated his Dharma Eye.
Magical Power flowed through his eyes.
Countless rays of light converged, absorbed into his pupils.
This was a new Dharma Gate he had mastered in recent years after his Power had increased.
Soon, Xu Lei had a general understanding of the situation in the orchard.
’So that’s how it is,’ Xu Lei thought.
’They’ve really gone to great lengths to kill me.’
A hidden Array had been set up in the orchard.
It just hadn’t been activated yet.
And within it, there truly was a Spirit Monster.
It wasn’t particularly strong, but not exactly weak either.
It seemed to be a Mouse Demon.
It had to be under the control of the person behind the scenes.
Although he didn’t know how they were controlling it.
Xu Lei guessed the mastermind intended for it to deal with the disciple he would send to investigate.
They wanted the disciple he sent to be unable to handle the Spirit Monster,
thus luring his true self to come over.
Then they would activate the Array and ambush him.
After understanding all this,
Xu Lei didn’t retreat.
Instead, he channeled his Magical Power.
Because right now, he was playing the part of the disciple sent to scout the area.
The real target hadn’t arrived yet, so the mastermind shouldn’t make a killing move.
Of course, Xu Lei didn’t charge into the orchard himself.
"Demon, die!"
He merely commanded the six Treasure Discs he had obtained from Hui Cheng, forming them into a drill that shot toward a specific spot in the orchard.
The drill spun wildly, plunging into the orchard like a bolt of lightning. It curved in an arc, scraping against the air with a piercing shriek.
Then, it pierced through a fruit tree in a flash.
"SKREEE!!"
A sharp cry rang out as Demonic Qi billowed forth.
Then came a series of collisions—BANG! BANG! BANG!
The Demon had begun to fight back.
But it didn’t resist for long.
Only for about the length of a single breath.
PFFT!
The sound was immediately followed
by a miserable scream: "Ah!"
The hidden Mouse Demon had been run through by Xu Lei.
The Treasure Discs then transformed into a Lotus Hand, its sharp claws swiping viciously.
It tore the Mouse Demon’s body apart.
A hole was ripped open in its chest.
Blood gushed out.
With another swipe,
it seized the Inner Core.
With a SQUELCH,
it brutally ripped the Demon Essence Core right out of its chest.
DRIP... DRIP...
Blood was still flowing down from the Inner Core, dripping onto the ground below.
But in the instant the blood began to fall,
the Lotus Hand, under Xu Lei’s control, had already started flying back at high speed.
Soon, it flew out of the orchard,
arriving before Xu Lei.
"Got it!"
Xu Lei reached out and grabbed the Inner Core.
A slight smile appeared on his face.
Although this Mouse Demon’s Cultivation was relatively average,
and the energy contained within its Inner Core probably wasn’t that abundant,
it was still a decent prize.
Although he still didn’t know who was behind this,
Xu Lei had already come out ahead.
Meanwhile, the old farmer at his side was dumbfounded.
Clearly, the original plan he knew of was not supposed to go like this.
’Wasn’t this just supposed to be a disciple sent to scout things out?’
’Just a vanguard?’
’How is he this strong?’
"Though I am merely a disciple of the Living Buddha, sent here to investigate,"
Xu Lei explained, "my Magical Artifact is still quite lethal.
The Spirit Monster has been dealt with.
Sir, it’s all right now.
Let’s go. We can head back."
The old farmer was utterly bewildered.
But he couldn’t very well say anything at this point.
He glanced at the orchard, then back at Xu Lei.
He could only turn and leave with Xu Lei.
Of course, just seven or eight breaths later,
before Xu Lei had gotten far,
"HUMMM!"
A faint wave of Demonic Qi once again emerged from the orchard.
This time, the Demonic Qi was much denser and more powerful than before.
"Hm?"
Xu Lei feigned surprise. He turned to look, his brow furrowed, and muttered to himself, "What’s going on?
Didn’t I just take care of the Demon Spirit?
Why is there still Demonic Qi over there?
Could there be more than one Demon in the orchard?"
Of course, while Xu Lei expressed his confusion,
he already had a good idea of what was happening in his heart.
’The mastermind definitely wants to lure Hui Chi into the Array.’
’They used the Mouse Demon to put on a show earlier.’
’They must have thought the Mouse Demon would be too much for the little underling I was supposed to have sent.’
’That way, the disciple would have no choice but to go back and ask Hui Chi to come personally.’
’But unexpectedly, I took care of it with a single move!’
’That cost them quite a bit.’
’After all, if that Mouse Demon wasn’t used as a pawn, its Inner Core could have been refined as a Cultivation resource.’
’Now they’re not willing to give up.’
’So they’ve brought out another Spirit Monster.’
’Because if I just go back like this,’
’Hui Chi definitely won’t come later.’
’The mastermind’s whole plan would be for nothing.’
"There’s more Demonic Qi?"
The old farmer paused, stunned, then immediately said, "Zen Master, could there be another Demon Spirit?
Heavens! What did my family do to deserve this?
How could our perfectly good orchard be occupied by more than one Demon Spirit?
Zen Master, I beg you, please see this through to the end!
You must exterminate this evil!"
"Alright, I will take another look."
Xu Lei nodded, then returned to the edge of the orchard to observe it again.
Of course, Xu Lei didn’t risk going inside; he just put on a show of observing.
Finally, Xu Lei said, "Sir, this new Demon Spirit seems quite strong.
I may not be able to handle it.
I must return to the temple and ask Living Buddha Hui Chi to come handle this himself."
