Chapter 29: Beast Blood
Lin Yuan prepared to accelerate, intending to flash step directly to the peak of the mountain. However, just as he was about to expend the necessary spiritual qi, a profound sound brushed against the edges of his Divine Sense.
He abruptly halted his movement.
His physical form resolidified in mid-air, hovering gently above the area that blanketed the base and lower slopes of the mountain. Lin Yuan looked down, his eyes detecting vitality. He could hear the thundering of massive heartbeats, the snapping of timber, and the roars of creatures fighting for dominance below.
Beasts. The mountain was crawling with them.
Normally, a peak Foundation Establishment cultivator preparing for a major breakthrough would ignore them, soaring directly to the peak to begin their cultivation. But Lin Yuan was not a normal cultivator.
Normally a Cultivators spent the Qi Condensation and Foundation Establishment realms painfully tempering their mortal flesh, expanding their meridians, and hardening their bones simply so their bodies would not violently explode from the pressure of housing spiritual qi.
However, the moment a cultivator successfully formed a Golden Core, this physical tempering almost entirely ceased. The prevailing belief was that once a cultivator could summon vast amount of qi, wield flying swords, and command the elements from afar, the physical body became obsolete—a mere vessel to house the true power of the soul. Why train your fists when a single thought could summon a mountain-crushing spell?
Lin Yuan, however, had recently absorbed the profound knowledge of the Ten Thousand Ways Return to One Heart Sutra. He understood that abandoning the physical vessel was a supreme error. The body was the root. A fragile teacup, no matter how beautifully crafted, could never hold a boiling ocean of Origin Energy. If he truly wanted to be invincible, his flesh needed to be as indestructible as his Dao Heart.
And the fastest, most ancient way to forge a flawless physical vessel beyond the limits of Foundation Establishment tempering was through the baptism of beast blood.
The raw vitality contained within the blood of powerful beasts possessed a violent, chaotic energy that could be absorbed through the skin, micro-fracturing and rebuilding a cultivator’s muscle fibers and bone marrow to be exponentially denser and more resilient.
"I have a staggering 500 points in my Root Bone," Lin Yuan murmured to himself. "My capacity for cultivation is unmatched. But my actual physical durability is still bound by so many limits. I have not encountered a single wild beast since transmigrating into this world. Since the heavens have placed a hunting ground at the foot of my breakthrough, it would be a supreme waste not to make good use of it."
As he looked down, he knew in this world, beasts were not simply animals; they were categorized.
At the bottom of the hierarchy were Typical Beasts. These were mortal animals that had grown to monstrous proportions simply by surviving in environments rich with ambient energy. They possessed no spiritual qi, formed no inner cores, and could not cast spells. They relied entirely on terrifying brute strength.
Above them were Spirit Beasts. These were creatures that had instinctively learned to open their own meridians. They inhaled spiritual qi, formed beast cores, and gained true cultivation. A Core Formation Spirit Beast could spit lightning, summon hurricanes, and rival human elders in combat.
Then, there were the Demonic Beasts. These horrifying entities were not born of the natural world, but forged in extreme demonic realms, where the laws of nature were violently twisted. Lin Yuan instantly recalled the Mountain and River Screen he had purchased at the auction; the auctioneer mentioned it had been recovered from the Scorched Realm. That realm was a prime example of a demonic breeding ground, where beast cultivated demonic qi.
Finally, sitting at the absolute apex of existence, were the Immortal Beasts. True Dragons, Phoenixes, and Qilins. These mythic entities were found exclusively in the upper Immortal Realms, and possessed the physical might to shatter planets and traverse the void of space without effort.
With a thought, Lin Yuan landed silently on the branch of a colossal cedar tree.
BOOM. BOOM. BOOM.
The ground beneath the cedar began to tremble. The sheer weight of the approaching footsteps caused the nearby trees to sway violently.
Lin Yuan peered through the branches. Emerging from the thick underbrush, snapping ancient tree trunks as if they were dry twigs, was a behemoth.
It was a giant elephant.
It was also a Typical Beast, but its physical proportions were the stuff of absolute nightmares. It stood easily as tall as a two-story building, its hide resembling thick, overlapping plates of dark iron-bark. Its twin tusks were not made of ivory, but of a dense, metallic bone that looked capable of impaling a fortress gate.
The beast snorted, a blast of hot, foul-smelling air blowing a crater into the soil. It possessed no magical spells, but its raw physical prowess was enough to effortlessly crush a careless Foundation Establishment cultivator into a bloody paste.
Lin Yuan’s eyes lit up with genuine excitement. To temper his body, he needed to meet raw force with raw force.
"Let us see how much strength I have," Lin Yuan whispered, as he pushed off the thick cedar branch. He then dropped directly into the path of the towering behemoth, and pulled his right arm back, his muscles coiling and compressing like a spring, before he threw a devastating punch directly toward the giant elephant’s skull.
