Chapter 1949: Rolling Up the Sleeves
A sudden sense of fear welled up in Chen Enxue's heart. "That is..."
The Forgotten River was an exceedingly special existence. Nothing had ever been able to move freely through it unless Yin Lifespan was transformed into a boat. Yet now, she was actually seeing a colossal beast leisurely swimming within the Forgotten River?!
"Old Ninth, that must be the Candle Dragon, right?" Xie A'man also peered over to look down into the Forgotten River.
Fang Chen smiled. "You know about the Candle Dragon as well?"
He beckoned toward the Forgotten River. The waters immediately surged and parted to either side, and an enormous head emerged from within the river.
"The Candle Dragon!"
The cultivators from the various factions stirred, admiration appearing in their eyes.
Perhaps only Monarch Yan could raise a mythical spiritual beast like this.
Some of them had never personally seen a Candle Dragon in their entire lives. Yet today, not only could they see one firsthand, they could even experience its unique aura from such close range.
The Candle Dragon curiously looked at Motian Dizang, who also did the same.
"With this Candle Dragon around, the Forgotten River can't trap you at all. Even without the Eighteen Heavens Prison Tower, you could have easily left before," remarked Motian Dizang with a strange expression.
The others' eyes flickered as they immediately understood the key point, and they couldn't help but sigh inwardly. Just as she had said, as long as the Candle Dragon obeyed his commands, Fang Chen could freely travel through the Forgotten River. Who could possibly stop him?
Fang Chen smiled faintly. "Some battles are inevitable. I will not run from them."
He turned toward the Candle Dragon. "Send them off on their way. This is the last batch."
The last batch of cultivators had already gathered upon the Candle Dragon's back. Once they were dropped off at various locations across the Forgotten River, they would truly be imprisoned. Even if someone wished to rescue them, they would have no way of knowing where they were.
Seeing that everything here had finally been settled, the ninth-transformation immortals spearheaded by Chen Feifei stepped forward one after another to bid farewell before departing with the cultivators under their respective forces.
Fang Chen and Motian Dizang were like hosts seeing off their guests, sending away one group after another.
In the end, only Fang Chen's direct subordinates remained.
Seeing that everything had been settled, Xia Ji and the others couldn't help but cast curious glances toward Motian Dizang. They could vaguely sense that there seemed to be some sort of unique connection between themselves and her.
Motian Dizang looked at Fang Chen and smiled sweetly. "Husband, should I call over my people and let you have a look?"
"No need. That would be unnecessary." Fang Chen waved his hand dismissively. "Keep your people for your own use."
With that, Fang Chen began assigning Xia Ji and the others tasks they would need to carry out in the Underworld.
A massive portion of the Floating Pagoda Realm had now fused into the Lesser Underworld. Fang Chen could clearly sense that the Lesser Underworld's capacity had increased tremendously. Some fourth- and even fifth-transformation Great Yin Demons could now manifest within the Lesser Underworld.
If this matter wasn't dealt with promptly, chaos would inevitably arise. Furthermore, with the Lesser Underworld's territory expanding, the jurisdiction of its various divisions would naturally increase accordingly. That meant they would need more manpower. Therefore, they would have to continue recruiting personnel.
"My Yin Soldiers cannot be spared for the time being, so I will have Consort Yan's Motian Division coordinate and cooperate with you all."
Motian Dizang inquired, "Is it strictly cooperation?"
Fang Chen smiled faintly. "Strictly cooperation. You are someone destined to become the Heavenly Dao. Do not pay far too much attention to these minor affairs of the Underworld."
With Abbess Qing He and the King of Yin Mountain keeping watch, the situation basically wouldn't descend into disorder.
"Alright."
Motian Dizang nodded, appearing exceptionally obedient and well-behaved.
"Smart people really are easy to talk to."
Fang Chen recalled the Yin Soldiers back into the Eighteen Heavens Prison Tower, then headed directly toward the Enlightenment Underworld.
He hadn't traveled far when he spotted Old Wang squatting by the roadside out of sheer boredom, holding a twig and poking at something.
Fang Chen stepped closer to look. He saw that it was a small insect native to the Underworld that resembled an ant.
Old Wang asked casually, "Once they return to the Mortal Realm, they'll begin purging the Nine Realms. Is there anything you still haven't taken care of?"
"I should be asking you that. The remaining problems now lie with the Supreme Qingming Alliance."
"Me? Before the situation became completely clear, I genuinely believed our only enemies were the Demon Race." Wang Chongsong let out a self-deprecating laugh. "Who could have known that, in the end, this matter would still involve the Supreme Qingming Alliance."
He paused, then looked curiously at Fang Chen. "Did that old man in your family tell you about what's happening over there?"
"More or less. You're always keeping things hidden." Fang Chen looked at him. "Is there anything else I ought to know that you haven't told me? You might as well tell me everything at once. For instance, exactly how many Bone Destinies do you have?"
"Bone Destinies... I'd rather not say. Everyone needs to keep a few secrets." Wang Chongsong laughed. "Once the new Heavenly Dao takes the throne, the forbidden arts affecting the two races can finally be completely eliminated. The Yang Gods will no longer suffer from those side effects that make them prone to forgetting things. When you have free time, ask that old man in your family whether the Yang God Path is easy to walk. If it is, I am thinking about taking that path too."
Fang Chen countered, "Rather than taking the Yang God Path, you're better off following the Saint Canon method. Those ancestors only took this path because they had no other choice. But in my view, the Saint Canon is the truly mature cultivation system."
Wang Chongsong let out a sigh. "The method of the Saint Canon... the Xiezhi Division does contain a method of the Saint Canon, but as you are already aware, we no longer have Supreme Bones in our bodies. The path provided by the Saint Canon is exceptionally difficult for us to walk. At least, I have tried it myself, and not a single one of my Bone Destinies could embark upon that path."
"Then what are you planning to do?" asked Fang Chen, somewhat curious.
"I keep feeling that something is slightly amiss somewhere. For now, I don't have any concrete plans. Let's wait until the matter concerning the Nine Realms is over first. If a new Heavenly Dao rises, we'll have plenty of time to arrange everything that comes afterward."
Wang Chongsong smiled faintly. "At the very least, we no longer need to keep fighting back and forth with the Demon Race. This will greatly reduce the depletion of our foundations."
Fang Chen stared at Wang Chongsong for a moment before suddenly asking, "You didn't stay here just to chat with me, did you?"
Wang Chongsong explained, "Of course not. I came here to tell you Fairy Yu's true identity."
"Her name is Lang Yu'er. She was originally from the God Race. She's Lang Daochun's younger sister," said Fang Chen calmly.
"......"
Wang Chongsong's expression turned strange. "How did you know?"
"You really don't know?" Fang Chen looked somewhat puzzled. "You previously reminded me that the Eighteen Heavens Prison Tower was recorded within the History Immortal Book. Did you forget about that?"
Wang Chongsong looked utterly bewildered. "Is that so...?"
Fang Chen smiled faintly. "Looks like the Reincarnation Immortal Sect's methods are still a little more formidable."
"What?"
Wang Chongsong remained confused.
Fang Chen sighed and said nothing more. Together with Wang Chongsong, he flew toward the Enlightenment Underworld.
***
Upon the Enlightenment Star, a few distinct traces of battle could be seen, though they were by no means extensive.
When Fang Chen returned to the Mortal Realm, he saw the cultivators flying busily back and forth, cleaning up the aftermath.
Simultaneously, many cultivators had already admitted their identities as members of the Demon Race and were boarding immortal boats in preparation to leave.
At that moment, Xie Aman tore through the air and arrived before Fang Chen. "Old Ninth, the ancestral sect site of the God Dao Sect has been located."
Fang Chen nodded with a smile. "I'll be back shortly."
He traveled to the Dongsheng Empire and stayed there for several days before returning to the Enlightenment God Palace.
By then, the formation of immortal vessels at the heart of the Enlightenment God Palace was already prepared to set out.
Every last person was raring to go.
