In a Different World with a Smartphone
# 7 First battle, and first reward.
The East Forest was about two hours walk from the town of Refretto. I thought they would give me a ride if I went through the carriage, but unfortunately I never went through one, and exactly two hours later we arrived in the East Forest.
We move forward in the depressed woods, watching our surroundings. I was suddenly freaked out by the sounds of birds and signs of small animals shaking the trees in the woods, and in the beginning I was frightened inside, but eventually I noticed a strange feeling.
Somehow… I can see the signs around me. Where are the creatures and what emotions they are pointing at themselves... I can see that. I don't know, this feeling. Is it a sixth sense…? Maybe this is one of the gifts God gave me.
When I was thinking about that, I felt two aggressive emotions from the front of my right hand. Obvious hostility.
"Be careful. There's something here."
You two stop right at my word. [M] As I gazed at the back of the woods, they moved into combat. [M] Anticipating the movement, a black shadow jumped out of the woods and hit us.
"Huh!
I twist my body in a hurry and dodge it. It's okay. I saw movement. Black horn extending from forehead to gray body hair. It's about the size of a big dog, but its fierceness is not a dog's ratio. Is this the lone wolf?
Confronting one of those I jumped out of, I saw a second flying from another direction towards Else.
Else confronted him from the front as he attacked him, slamming a blow all over his body into the wolf's nose. Decent eating of the gauntlet fists, the unicorn wolf falls straight to the ground, eventually stopping moving. Exactly a blow special.
When I am impressed with Else's battle, I aim for the gap and the wolf in front of me comes running again with his fangs peeled off.
I calmly read the wolf's movements and pull the knife out of my hips accordingly. A flash of certainty. At that moment, the wolf's neck danced through the universe and rolled to the ground with momentum.
How much guilt and disgust depends on the feeling that you killed a creature for the first time. But not long after soaking it, four new wolves appeared in herds, two of them headed this way.
"Flame, come, red rubble, Ignisfire"
At the same time that I heard that voice, one of the wolves attacked me suddenly caught in flames and burned to the ground. I hear Linze, who was back there, covered me with the magic of the flames. Shit! I missed my first chance to see magic when I came to this world! Grunt.
Slash the other one with a knife, similarly. The fallen wolf quickly stopped moving.
Turning his gaze toward Else, he ate a spinning kick in the belly of a flying wolf and was blowing it away. Next to it is the last one burned again by the flames. Ah, I missed the magic again...
"You're cleaned up. We had five crusades, but we got more than one."
That's what Else says. She bangs the gauntlet. We took down six of them all, two of each. I think it was good for my first fight. Oh, is it just me for the first time?
Now, we must bring back the horns of the wolves to evidence of crusade. Cut off the corners for the six and put them in the pouch. All you have to do is get this to the Alliance and you're done, Mission Complete.
As I went through the woods, I felt the tension I was carrying slip away at once. I feel free from breathlessness. I guess I'll have to get used to this.
I was lucky enough to get a carriage through on my way home, so I got a ride. Lucky.
When you get back to town much sooner than you walk, stop by the guild on that foot and hand over the requisition completion process and the five Horns of the Horn Wolf to the receptionist sister. I decided to keep one of the remaining bottles for today's commemoration.
"Yes, I did receive five horns of a one-horned wolf. Now please submit your guild card"
When we give the card, the receptionist pushes something like a handkerchief over it. Only for a moment a magical mark floated, but soon disappeared. I heard later that Hanko was pushed differently due to the rank of the request. Does the card accumulate information on the pressed hanko, and if it accumulates to some extent, the rank increases and the color of the card changes?
By the way, we are beginner ranked black. They're going up with black > purple > green > blue > red > silver > gold.
"So here's 18 copper coins for the reward. This will complete the request. Good luck."
When you receive your reward from the sister at the reception, you just split the three of us six pieces at a time. This earned me three days' worth of accommodation. I'm starting to feel like I can manage to do it in this world.
"Hey, hey, why don't we celebrate the success of our first request and have a light meal somewhere?
Leaving the guild, Else mentioned that. It's still a little early for dinner, but on second thought, it was out of lunch. Might be good. And there was something I wanted to ask you for, and it was just fine.
We decided to go into a coffee shop all over town.
I ordered hot sandwiches and milk, Else had meat pie and orange juice, and Lindsay ordered pancakes and tea, and when the clerk dropped, I cut out the conversation.
"You know, I need you two to do me a favor."
"Please?"
"Yeah, I need you to tell me how to read and write. I knew if I couldn't read the letters, it would be inconvenient. Looks like it's going to be tough."
"Uh, sure. I don't know what you're asking for."
Yeah, yeah, Else nods. At the same time, Linze is snorting. Come here. I knew you were twins.
"If that's the case, you should let Lindsay tell you. She's smart, so she's good at teaching."
"Oh... no... but... If I may…"
"Thank you. That'll help."
All right, I've managed to get a visual on how to read and write with this. All you have to do is study. I'm glad I found a good teacher.... Ah.
"That's right, Linze. If I tell you next, what, but I wonder if you can even teach me magic. I'd like to try it, too."
"" Huh?
I'm a jerk. These kids. What? Was that so weird?
