Chapter 58: Rendered Useless
***Somewhere not too far away***
Seated on a majestic throne carved directly out of rock was a Lion like beast with Flaming Mane. It sat with so much pride that every eye in the room was locked directly on it.
"It seems those pesky people have gone ahead and triggered that being again," the lion beast said after a little bit of silence.
In front of it was an array of Genetics beasts, each one appearing extremely different from the other. Some were Bipedal beasts while some retained their animal-like appearance.
But among all of them, one thing was common. They all had an extremely menacing aura that could almost surely kill Morden and his friends if they were in their presence.
"Since they have managed to do that, a little power has returned back to us."
"For the first time in a long time, I have been offered a mission, and I will make sure to complete it with utmost perfection." The last part of his sentence comes out in a strangely ascending tone.
***Back in Morden’s location***
Morden and his friends had already left the spot they had been staying previously, already moving deeper into the forest of Chaos. The time they spent in that area was already too long since they still had pursuers on their tail.
At first glance, it was already obvious that a lot of changes were already in the group dynamics from the time they had just arrived in the Omnisphere.
The gloomy look that Darlus had was nowhere to be seen and now replaced with a strange resplendent glow.
"Those guys are chasing us, don’t they know how strong we are?" Darlus asked with a confident face.
"Like, can’t they say? My student literally killed two Forest Wolves himself, and Lisa also did the same. It’s just that this one wasn’t able to show his skills enough."
"Guys, you know what, let’s wait here for them."
"I want to show my skills,"
Darlus kept rambling on and on as they walked, making the walk unbearable for Morden, but for Lisa, on the other hand, all she had to do was not pay him attention since she was dead.
"Help me," Morden whispered to Lisa, who was currently staring at him, but instead of responding, she just turned her head away.
’Betrayal,’
"Tomorrow, what Beast do you think we will come into contact with next, and how much do you think it will grow our genetic trees?"
"That Forest Wolf pushed me a little bit, and since you killed two, you must have gotten quite a notable pro—"
"Can you keep quiet for a bit?" Lisa suddenly said, cutting off Darlus mid-sentence.
"Why?"
"I see something, and though I can’t hear you, I feel you still catch your mouth moving every single time; it’s distracting."
"So please, can you keep quiet and let me focus for a bit?"
Though he was hesitant to stop like that, Darlus could see the serious look on Lisa’s face, so he knew that the situation wasn’t a cheery one anymore.
"Modern, can you see the extra dark patch up ahead?" Lisa said.
Following the direction Lisa gave, Morden strained his eyes with hope of seeing anything, but to him that place appeared just like the others.
"Umm, Lisa, I can’t actually see anything," he said while scratching his head.
"I don’t blame you, but it’s expected, though."
"Dark Magpies are really difficult to spot from a distance away; not everyone has my eyes." Morden could hear a faint trace of arrogance in that sentence, but he just smiled and ignored it.
"Lisa, are they coming towards us or heading somewhere else?" Darlus asked in an excited tone.
"I am not too sure, but in any regard, we should just stay put and see what happens."
On the side, Morden just stood there looking at Darlus, analytic thoughts flooding straight into his mind.
’It’s really strange how he can switch up like that; not too long ago he was crying and almost freezing the whole place, and now he can’t stop talking.’
’He is even excited to fight Genetic Beasts; he doesn’t know a single thing about them.’
"Hey, you two, prepare; it’s officially confirmed. They are heading straight for us."
"Brace yourself; this is going to be a very difficult fight, especially for you," Lisa added while staring at Morden.
’Difficult fight? How?’
Morden wasn’t done finishing that thought when the threat finally arrived.
In front of the trio was a slightly massive hoard of small birds plus rodents like Genetic beasts that hovered far up above their heads.
"Dark Magpies attack using small Vital Energy beams that will immediately pierce a One-ring bearer; though the beams are small, there are so many of them that they leave their enemy riddled with holes."
Looking at how far above his head the beasts were, Morden finally realized why Lisa said it would be a difficult fight.
"How am I supposed to get my attacks up there?"
Boost being the only ability he had, there was nothing in his arsenal that could help him at that time. So Morden could only look at his surroundings to look for answers.
"Die Magpies!!!!" Darlus suddenly shouted.
The moment the shout came, Morden felt the surrounding temperature drop a little bit, followed by tiny needle-like icicles forming all around him.
Almost immediately after, they formed the needle-like icicles that shot straight up from beside Darlus and towards the Magpies. They were moving so fast, there was no way for the beast to respond in time.
Just there, about a dozen beasts died at once, leaving Morden really dumbfounded.
’Now that’s impressive; sadly, I still can’t find any way to help.’
’At least it’s not just m-’
Swish!! swish!
Morden suddenly noticed Lisa Materializing small needles and sending them flying Straight up.
With every needle, one Magpie was dropped to the ground with so much accuracy it was scary.
’She must be using her Eye ability again.’
’Ohhh damn, I am really the only useless one.’
