Chapter 16: Beginning of the End
****Outside the Omnisphere****
A woman dressed in skin tight leather attire sat on a desk with light shining on her back as she stirred at the unconscious body currently strapped to the chair in front of her.
’It should be coming to an end soon,’
"What will it be, kid, will be returning as a completely new being or you will have to die by my hands," she said with an unusual smile.
After saying those words, she grew quiet again but immediately after she turned to look at the empty space to her left and almost at that exact moment a figure finally appeared there.
"Guardian Douglas greets Lady Mona," the figure said while kneeling on one leg.
"Douglas, was that really necessary?" Mona responded.
"Yes my lady, its important be-"
"You know what, forget I said anything. Why are you here?" she asked with a stern face.
Douglas looked a little uncomfortable with her cutting him off like that but he immediately hid that thought and proceeded to respond to her questions.
"Yes my Lady, the chief ordered me to come ask for the current update since it’s been a while and you haven’t reported back yet,"
The one called Mona shook her head helplessly at those words.
’Ask for current update my a*s, he probably sent you to come spy on me,’ she thought to herself.
"My investigation has been abruptly cut short when the kid got a Bearer’s tattoo and now I have to wait for the results,"
Listening to Mona’s words, Douglas finally bothered to look at Morden’s body, currently strapped to a chair.
"Do you think he will finish his mission with that kind of fate," Douglas asked without taking his eyes off Morden’s body.
"Who am I to decide, it’s all up to him but if he actually does survive then things are surely bound to become quite interesting soon," her lost smile returning to her face.
****Outside the Village****
’Remember Morden, slow and steady infiltration,’ he thought to himself.
Though he had thought about just brute charging towards the Mountain Lord’s house without caring about the villagers, he quickly abandoned that thought when he realized he didn’t know how much of a hold the Mountain Lord had on the people.
If he ordered everyone to attack him at once, using all he had in his arsenal won’t save him from dying one hundred times over.
Keeping his body stance low and his steps steady, Morden cut through the edges of the forest, hoping to remain unnoticed for as long as possible.
’Though actually challenging the Mountain Lord will still attract all of them over, it’s still safer this way,’
At one point he finally arrived at where he couldn’t just pass the village edge anymore, he had to cut inwards if he didn’t want to go in circles.
At that point Morden employed a change of strategy, he moved towards one tent and leaned on it slightly acting as a cover for him to scout another side.
From behind the tent, he peeped out the edge to see if there was anyone. After finally seeing no one there, he rushed towards another tent.
He kept doing this a few times and luckily he didn’t meet anyone until he got to the edge of the clearing that surrounds the Mountain Lord’s house.
’There’s no more hiding from this place on,’
After concluding that point, Morden bent down as if compressing a spring and in one sharp burst he charged straight at the building while raising his voice to shout.
"Get out here you crazy ritualist," Morden shouted.
"Get out here now,"
His shout didn’t just alert the Mountain Lord though, it also attracted the Villagers who had previously been on edge from last night’s incident.
One by one they all came out of their house to check out the problem.
"Isn’t that the outsider?"
"Why isn’t he dead?"
"Has he gone mad instead?"
Questions kept flying all around from all over the area, confused and shocked villagers all stared at the sprinting Morden.
A few seconds later, the shout finally attracted the target itself.
"You are finally coming out you disgusting bastard," Morden cursed under his breath as he felt the ground tremble slightly under his feet.
"The Mountain Lord is coming, he is done for," One person said not too far away from Morden’s current location and it was loud enough for him to hear.
A smile appeared on Morden’s face when he heard that as thought that almost immediately those words were let out there would be someone who will refute it immediately.
He was trying to solve their number one problem at least.
But reality was much different from what he had expected, there wasn’t a single voice raised to reject that person. So he turned around to check if the people were at least frowning but he was shocked again to see all of them nodding in approval.
’What the hell, not even a single person,’
’Have they all been brainwashed to that extent,’
He thought about the current situation for a bit and he soon arrived at a conclusion on the event.
"Fear really has a powerful grip on people’s minds,"
"The rich control the poor with fear, the Powerful controls the weak with fear, that’s what the world has slowly turned to," he muttered to himself.
He quickly shoved those thoughts to the back of his mind as he remembered what he was just about to do.
’Shouldn’t he be out yet?’ Morden questioned.
It has been a few seconds since he had felt the faint tremble of the Mountain Lords footsteps and since the house wasn’t that big, he should be in sight by now.
’He must be doing something nefarious in there, I must wait for him to finish,"
’But do I just charge in? What if that’s what he wants to do and there’s a trap in there?"
’What to do?’
Before Morden could decide what he was going to do, he suddenly noticed a figure slowly coming to sight from behind the building accompanied by a thick pungent smell of decaying flesh.
’What the hell?’ Morden thought upon seeing the sight currently in front of him.
’Did I...cause that.’
