Chapter 44: BRONZE ARSENAL
The subterranean obsidian vault fell into a heavy, absolute silence as the last silver light of the unsealed pedestal faded into the sub-zero air.
Noah Kurtz stood before the petrified oak pedestal, his slouching posture relaxed as he flexed his fingers inside his dark coat.
Underneath his worn sleeves, the newly acquired black ironwood forearm guards gripped his wrists with a seamless, weightless precision. The high-density kinetic dampening alloy embedded in the ironwood hummed in quiet, perfect harmony with his meridians, stabilizing the newly expanded stream of Ki that flowed from his lower spine.
With Record Fragment #016 integrated and his synchronization rate elevated to 0.25%, the Bronze-Tier Archive was fully open within his mind.
A vast, structured catalog of ancient combat blueprints, environmental formulas, and high-frequency physical execution forms sat ready in his neural grid.
"Boss..." Chloe Harrington whispered, taking a slow, cautious step closer as her passive Probability Distortion vision gradually settled. Her messy crimson hair whipped across her forehead in the subterranean draft. "Whatever you just absorbed from that bronze chest... your physical probability lines didn’t just multiply. They completely changed shape. You’re reading the spatial room like a blueprint before things even happen."
Noah didn’t turn his head. He pulled his hands from his dark coat pockets, his steady fingers brushing over the hilts of his twin obsidian-alloy daggers resting at his belt.
"The room is just geometry, Chloe," Noah spoke softly, his voice an absolute pool of calm. "When you know where the joints are, the stone tells you where it’s going to break."
Rin Asakura stood ten paces behind them, holding her ironwood practice sword loosely at her side. Her black silk blindfold remained fixed on Noah’s profile, her soft, formal face marked by a rare, quiet intensity.
Her hyper-precise sensory grid—Asura’s Touch—could map the exact physical dimensions of every stone block in the vault. But when her grid touched Noah, it felt as though she were standing at the edge of an infinite, bottomless abyss.
"The First Cycle..." Rin murmured, her voice carrying a melancholic, soft cadence. "The Archive Church spent two centuries searching for the lost records of the ancient anchors. They believed the keys were destroyed when the first sky fell. Yet you hold them in your coat like copper coins."
"The Church looked in the high sectors," Noah replied dryly, stepping past the petrified oak pedestal toward the subterranean exit shaft. "They forgot that old dead worlds don’t leave their keys in glass towers. They leave them in the dirt."
Jiho Park trudged behind Noah, his faded slide sandals clicking lazily against the frost-dusted flagstones as he carried his oversized canvas duffel bag over his broad shoulder. He let out a long, heavy yawn that echoed through the dark vault.
"Master," Jiho mumbled sleepily, rubbing his eyes with a thick fist. "The ceiling is making that loud grinding noise again. Sounds like a big tin can is getting crushed up there."
RUMBLE!
A deep, subterranean vibration shook the entire obsidian hall. Dust and pulverized stone rained down from the high vaulted ceiling as violent structural stress shockwaves propagated through the bedrock from the surface above.
Noah stopped near the base of the vertical shaft leading upward toward the high corporate sectors.
He raised his steel-gray eyes, his newly unlocked Bronze-Tier perception instantly reading the structural stress lines running through the three hundred meters of stone and concrete above them.
High above, at the surface layer where the glass spires of the Vance Clan stood shrouded in absolute pitch-black darkness, a massive, S-Rank Black Sky void entity—a Void-Crag Colossus—had breached the primary containment wall.
Devoid of atmospheric mana, the Vance Clan’s defensive barriers, high-grade plasma turrets, and automated security arrays had completely collapsed into useless scrap.
Evelyn Vance and her remaining vanguard squad were currently trapped on the rain-slicked plaza of her family’s central spire, surrounded by a horde of shadow anomalies, her absolute-zero Cryomancy failing completely in the zero-mana atmosphere.
Chloe looked up at the trembling ceiling, her sharp amber eyes narrowing as she adjusted her duster jacket. "Sounds like the Vance Clan’s high sector is taking a beating. Their central power grid was built directly over this node’s thermal line. When the vault unsealed, their backup generators must have short-circuited."
"They didn’t just short-circuit," Noah spoke softly, a dry, faint line touching his lips as he tightened the dark leather straps of his new ironwood forearm guards. "Their primary containment field inverted. The monsters aren’t breaking in from the outside. They’re rising from the foundation beneath their feet."
Jiho scratched his belly through his oversized yellow t-shirt, offering a sleepy smirk. "So... we going up to check on the tin cans, Master?"
"We are going up because the central transit line out of Sentinel City runs through their plaza," Noah corrected calmly, stepping onto the vertical ascent rungs set into the basalt wall.
He turned his steel-gray eyes back toward the two women behind him.
"Chloe, stay behind Jiho during the ascent," Noah instructed. "Rin, keep your sensory grid focused on the upper thermal vents. When we breach the surface, the air pressure will drop instantly."
Rin Asakura bowed her head slightly, her soft, formal tone carrying a quiet, unyielding resolve. "Understood, traveler. I shall be your shadow."
Noah Kurtz didn’t waste another second.
Circulate.
Inside his lower spine, the cultivated thread of Ki ignited into a smooth, high-frequency stream. Noah activated the advanced sequence of the Ashen Step, his physical frame blurring into a soundless, friction-less sprint straight up the vertical basalt shaft, ascending into the dark heart of the high sector above.
Jiho, Chloe, and Rin followed immediately after, leaving the dormant Bronze-Tier Vault behind in the quiet dark.
The time for quiet harvesting was over. The ghost of Sentinel City was about to step directly onto the main stage.
