The high-sector concourse of Aethelgard Station was less a train terminal and more a towering cathedral dedicated to corporate excess.

Eighty-foot holographic billboards floated beneath vaulted glass domes, casting shimmering neon blues and gold across polished marble floors. Advertisements for NovaCox mana-enhancers, Apex Global defense shields, and Aegis security contracts cycled in an endless, flashing loop. Down the main thoroughfare walked elite Hunters clad in tailored, rune-stitched suits, accompanied by private security drones that hummed like silver hornets.

At the edge of Checkpoint Beta, an automated turnstile line buzzed with high-frequency scanning arrays.

Jiho Park stood before a sleek, chrome turnstile gate, staring down at a glowing holographic scanner panel with deep, sleepy suspicion. In his massive right hand, he held a paper transit ticket Alistair had printed back at the shop.

"Master," Jiho mumbled, scratching the back of his neck as his faded slide sandals squeaked against the pristine marble. "This glass door is making a sound like an angry microwave. Do I punch it or put the paper on the light?"

"You tap the ticket against the glass icon, Jiho," Chloe Harrington sighed from behind him, adjusting her duster collar.

She reached past Jiho’s massive shoulder, tapping her own ticket against the glass. The turnstile chimed pleasantly, swinging open. But Jiho, mistaking the chiming sound for an incoming attack, instinctively shifted his stance.

CRACK.

Jiho’s thick shoulder clipped the edge of the chrome barrier. The reinforced, bulletproof security arm snapped off its hydraulic hinge like a dry pretzel, clattering loudly onto the marble floor.

An alarm blared instantly—a shrill, high-pitched siren that echoed through the concourse.

"Warning! Facility damage detected at Checkpoint Beta Gate 04! Security units mobilize!" three automated NovaCox patrol drones barked, spinning in mid-air as their red targeting lasers locked directly onto Jiho’s broad chest.

Jiho blinked, looking down at the broken metal arm in his hand, then at the floating drones. "Whoa. Master, I barely touched the plastic. These central city gates are built like wet crackers."

Four armored NovaCox security guards in silver exo-plate sprinted toward them, drawing high-frequency shock-batons. "Halt! Intruders! State your Guild affiliation and surrender your asset tags!"

Noah Kurtz stepped smoothly between Jiho and the guards. He didn’t draw a dagger. He didn’t flare an aggressive aura.

Circulate.

Underneath his dark coat sleeves, Noah activated a micro-pulse of his Silver-Tier Kinetic Dampening Field. A localized, invisible wave of zero-friction energy expanded across a three-meter radius.

Thump.

The moment the four guards stepped into the field, the kinetic friction between their armored boots and the polished marble floor vanished completely. Their boots slipped as if they had stepped onto greased ice. All four enforcers lost their balance simultaneously, flailing their arms in wild, uncoordinated panic before crashing hard onto their rears in a chaotic pile of clanking armor.

Above them, the three patrol drones’ guidance gyroscopes malfunctioned as Noah’s field disrupted their kinetic air-displacement sensors. The drones wobbled violently in mid-air, spun in three dizzy circles, and gently glided sideways into a nearby ornamental fountain, short-circuiting with a series of quiet fizz-pop sounds.

"Probability line resolved," Chloe smirked, casually flipping her silver coin into her pocket. "Total incident resolution time: four seconds."

Noah didn’t pause to look at the groaning guards in the fountain. "Jiho, drop the metal arm. We’re moving."

"Right, Master," Jiho mumbled, sheepishly tossing the broken turnstile bar into a nearby recycling bin before grabbing his massive canvas duffel bag.

Beside Noah, Rin Asakura walked with quiet, weightless grace. Her dark blue kimono swished softly, her slender hand linked securely through Noah’s right palm.

Through Asura’s Touch, Rin mapped the surrounding concourse. While the neon lights and screaming alarms overwhelmed the sensory grids of standard sightless individuals, Rin remained completely untroubled. The warm, steady pulse of Noah’s Silver-Tier Ki loop radiated from his palm straight into her meridians, giving her an absolute, unwavering anchor in the middle of the glittering corporate metropolis.

"The city is loud, Noah..." Rin whispered softly, her melodic voice carrying an intimate warmth as her shoulder rested lightly against his sleeve. "It smells of burning mana and false pride."

"That’s central continent politics for you, Rin," Noah replied gently, his gray eyes glancing sideways at her profile as they stepped out of the station doors onto the elevated sky-bridge. "Everything is shiny on the outside, hollow on the inside."

The view from the sky-bridge of Aethelgard was overwhelming.

Colossal skyscrapers over two hundred stories high pierced the upper cloud layer, their glass facades reflecting bright holographic advertisements for the Mega-Guild Triumvirate. Floating transport platforms glided along magnetic sky-lanes, while far below—hidden beneath a thick layer of industrial smog and steel scaffolding—lay the lower sectors, where non-awakened commoners and unranked porters lived in cramped, concrete slums.

"Look at that place," Chloe remarked, leaning over the sky-bridge railing and looking down into the sparkling, multi-trillion-credit corporate district. Her amber eyes held a cold, cynical edge. "Apex Global’s headquarters on the left, NovaCox Tower in the center, Aegis Plaza on the right. They call this the ’Beacon of Civilization,’ but it’s just a gigantic bank with a guild license."

"Where are we meeting the contact, Boss?" Jiho asked, peering down at a lower street level where neon signs glowed in a narrow alleyway.

"Sector 09," Noah said, his steel-gray eyes evaluating the structural layout of the lower streets with clinical precision. "The Night-Market of the Unranked. It’s the only place in Aethelgard where NovaCox scanners can’t penetrate."

The team descended via a rusted, hydraulic freight elevator that bypassed the high-society plazas, dropping down into the dim, shadow-draped underbelly of Sector 09.

Here, far beneath the glittering glass towers of the elites, lay a bustling, subterranean market city. Hundreds of independent scavengers, rogue artifact dealers, and unranked porters moved through narrow alleys lined with steaming food stalls, illegal spell-scrap shops, and black-market core exchanges.

It was chaotic, noisy, and dirty—yet it felt far more real than the pristine marble floors of the train station above.

Rin’s ears twitched under her black silk blindfold as her sensory grid mapped the bustling alleyway. "It smells like roasted chestnuts... and hot tea."

"Alistair said the contact runs a tea shop near the lower conduit," Noah said smoothly, his hand gently guiding Rin through the crowded market street.

They turned down a narrow side alley where red paper lanterns hung from iron pipes, stopping before a modest wooden storefront with a sign that read: The Quiet Leaf.

Sitting on a small stool outside the shop was a middle-aged man with a scarred eye, wearing a faded wool vest and smoking a long copper pipe. As Noah’s slouching figure in the dark coat stepped into the lantern light, the man’s hands froze mid-motion.

The man’s single eye widened in utter, paralyzing shock. He slowly set his copper pipe down on a wooden table, bowing his head until his forehead almost touched his knees.

"Master NovaCox..." the shadow broker rasped, his voice trembling with deep, ancient respect. "The rumors from the border were true... the ghost has returned to the Central Continent."

Jiho blinked, looking between the bowing broker and Noah. "Hey, Master... he called you ’NovaCox.’ Isn’t that the name of the mega-guild that owns half the city?"

Chloe let out a low, amused chuckle. "The mega-guild named themselves after the legend, Jiho. They just don’t know the legend is currently standing in front of a tea shop in a dark coat."

Noah didn’t offer a dramatic speech or acknowledge the broker’s fear with arrogance. He simply pulled out a small iron token stamped with an extinct 14th-Cycle rune, tossing it onto the table.

"I need the entry coordinates for the S-Rank Corporate Gala at Aegis Plaza tomorrow night," Noah spoke flatly, his voice an unflinching pool of calm. "And I need five unranked consultant passes."

The broker clutched the iron token with trembling fingers, nodding frantically. "Consider it done, Master. The passes will be delivered to your safehouse within the hour. But... be careful, Your Grace. The Triumvirate has deployed their elite ’Sovereign Enforcers’ for the gala. They are hunting for any trace of the Null-Point Heretic."

Noah tilted his head slightly, his steel-gray eyes glinting with an ancient, cold clarity in the red lantern light.

"Let them hunt," Noah said softly.

Noah turned, holding his hand out toward Rin.

Rin stepped up beside him, her pale, delicate fingers sliding effortlessly into his palm, her head resting lightly against his arm as they turned to leave the alleyway.

"Are we going to a gala, Noah?" Rin asked softly, a serene, beautiful smile touching her lips.

"We are," Noah replied gently, tightening his fingers around hers. "And we’re going to teach the mega-guilds a lesson in etiquette."

Hand in hand, with Jiho carrying the duffel bag and Chloe flipping her silver coin, the Shadow Vanguard melted into the shadows of Sector 09, ready to take on the rulers of the Central Continent.
