Chapter 209: Delivering Potted Plants (Part 2)
A nasty laughter followed, and when they tracked the source, it was that hateful Lan Yushen again.
"Xi’er!" Xiao Fenghao immediately put the potted orchid back to the carriage, inspecting his younger sister worriedly.
His hands threw the broken pot in her hands into the ground, searching for any sign of blood for fear Xiao Yuxi had been injured. Fortunately, she seemed to be fine.
"What are beggars like you two doing here?!" Lan Yushen’s contemptuous voice rang out.
The guards came over to check the commotion, and they were stunned when they saw what was happening.
Lan Yushen’s eyes lit up when he saw the guards. He immediately ordered, "Kick these two out of here! Why are you slacking off that you even allow beggars inside?"
He snorted. "Just wait until I tell Grandfather or Grandmother that you two had been slacking off!"
He patted his chest. "It’s good that there is me! Otherwise, we wouldn’t know how many things they would have stolen. Hurry up, kick them out."
"Young Master Lan, this..." The guards were stumped at his unreasonable action. They glanced at each other and didn’t know what they should do.
It was easy for these nobles to twist a narrative about them to get them fired. Even if they were working at the Grand Tutor’s mansion, their job wasn’t easy either.
However, they also had seen that these two siblings were working for the nurseryman who was delivering potted plants, so they still tried to speak for them.
"Young Master Lan, they don’t have bad intentions..." One guard opened his mouth. "They are just delivering orchids–"
Lan Yushen immediately became angry. "I don’t care. Get them out of here!"
On the other side, Xiao Yuxi was deeply worried. Her face had gone pale when she realized that the potted orchid was broken because of Lan Yushen.
"Second Brother, am I going to cause trouble for Uncle?" She paused to take a deep breath, staring at the broken pot in a daze. "The flower is ruined..."
Xiao Fenghao gripped her hands, already done wiping the soil clean. He still didn’t see any wounds, which was a relief. "I will explain to them..."
He glanced at the two guards. "The Grand Tutor and his son shouldn’t be unreasonable people."
They remembered how the Grand Tutor had punished Lan Yushen for his lawless actions.
However, it seemed that Lan Yushen’s memory also quickly forgot about that episode, seeing that he was having a fit directly in the Grand Tutor mansion.
Still, the siblings were a little apprehensive when they realized they were dealing with a noble family.
Xiao Yuxi pursed her lips. "Father will surely help us if something were to happen to us..."
Although there would be a lot of things at a stake because of that.
"You don’t want to follow my orders?" Lan Yushen glared at the guards angrily. His annoyance grew every second, and also a hint of humiliation.
He felt that these guards were deliberately disobeying his order in front of country bumpkins like the Xiao siblings, thereby humiliating him in front of them.
The guards were having a headache.
They gritted their teeth and turned to the Xiao siblings, apologizing first. "We are really sorry..."
Before they could take another step, Zhou Yanchao suddenly appeared, walking toward them with large strides, looking worried. "Hao’er, Xi’er, why do you two take so long?"
Xiao Yuxi’s eyes watered slightly. "Uncle, I am sorry, I broke the potted orchid."
Xiao Fenghao already stood in front of her to protect her. When he heard her words, he frowned and pointed to Lan Yushen. "Uncle, it was him who threw a stone at the potted orchid Xi’er was carrying."
His words made Lan Yushen become angry. "Why are you blaming me? It was obviously this wench who didn’t carry it properly. She admitted it herself!"
He folded his hands on his chest, looking absolutely smug.
Zhou Yanchao became concerned, and he asked Xiao Yuxi. "How are you? Did you get hurt anywhere?"
"Uncle, I am fine." Xiao Yuxi shook her head.
He was also in a turmoil, blaming himself for letting the two go without him. This young master from the Lan family was arrogant and troublesome.
"There is one potted orchid that we owe to the Grand Tutor mansion," he told the guards. "Please tell Minister Lu we will come back tomorrow to make up for the rest."
"Hao’er, Xi’er, let’s deliver the last potted orchid," he continued, grabbing the last pot on the carriage.
The guards had a look of shame plastered on their faces.
They could only watch as Zhou Yanchao led his nephew and niece away without stopping them. Inwardly, they hoped that Lan Yushen would stop making trouble, but unfortunately, they didn’t get what they wished for.
Lan Yushen snorted and cursed at them. "Incompetent bunch, can’t even do such a simple thing."
The guards lowered their heads as Lan Yushen walked in front of them. When they lifted their heads again, their hearts were almost in their throats because they saw him heading to Zhou Yanchao and the Xiao siblings.
"You three, stop there!" Lan Yushen ordered, his voice laced with condescension.
Zhou Yanchao was uneasy, and he decided not to stop. Xiao Fenghao’s jaw tightened. He was really tempted to punch this annoying Lan Yushen.
Seeing that these three didn’t stop even after he called them, Lan Yushen stomped the ground angrily.
He frowned and chased after them, suddenly grabbing the potted orchid in Zhou Yanchao’s hands. His actions forced the three to stop.
"Young Master, please return the potted orchid to us. We still need to deliver it to the place Minister Lu has told us," Zhou Yanchao told him in a voice as polite as possible.
Lan Yushen sneered, and he curled up his lips mockingly. "Beg me."
Xiao Yuxi hurriedly grabbed her second brother, afraid he might act rashly.
"You don’t want this potted orchid anymore? Come on, if you want this, just beg me."
