Chapter 69: Offering Her Body
The four men had all been around Level 20, yet Cain had killed them before they could properly resist.
The woman looked at him with far more fear than when she had stared at the zombies outside.
Cain turned toward her.
She immediately flinched.
"P-Please..."
Cain said nothing as he still looked at her coldly.
"I’m sorry."
Her voice trembled badly.
"I didn’t have a choice."
The woman hurriedly pointed toward the oldest man’s corpse.
"He forced me!"
Cain glanced at the body.
"He was my superior before the apocalypse."
"What happened?"
The woman swallowed.
"I was hiding here after everything started."
Her breathing remained uneven, but she forced herself to continue.
"I thought the military would eventually come. Or the government would send people to rescue us. I was too afraid to go outside."
Cain remained silent.
"Not long ago, they barged inside and refused to leave."
Her fingers tightened around the hem of her shirt.
"He told me that if I wanted to stay alive, I had to help them."
Cain looked toward the window she had been waving from earlier.
"By luring people inside?"
The woman slowly nodded.
"Yes."
Cain looked back at her.
"Was I the first?"
She hesitated for a moment, then shook her head.
"No."
Her answer became much quieter.
"How many?"
"This was the second time."
Cain’s eyes narrowed.
"What happened to the first?"
"He..."
The woman looked toward one of the bodies.
"The first person decided to join them."
Cain followed her gaze.
The first person she had lured into the house had never become their victim.
He probably had simply decided that joining the robbers was safer than fighting them.
Then Cain arrived and killed him together with the rest.
A short laugh escaped Cain.
"That doesn’t really change anything."
The woman’s expression became terrified when she saw his sword rise slightly.
"Wait!"
She clasped both hands together. "Please don’t kill me."
Cain remained silent.
"I really was forced!"
"You still lured me inside."
"I know."
"And you knew what they planned to do."
The woman bit her lower lip.
After several seconds, she looked down on the floor.
"I–I’m sorry..."
Cain walked closer.
She instinctively pressed herself harder against the wall.
He stopped several steps away.
"Give me one reason to spare you."
The woman froze.
Cain’s voice remained calm.
"You helped them lure me into a room so they could rob me."
His eyes briefly moved toward the corpses.
"One of them even tried to stab me."
The woman’s face became increasingly pale.
Cain continued.
"So what exactly do I gain by letting you live?"
"I..."
She opened her mouth, but nothing came out.
The woman looked around desperately, trying to find something that could be given to Cain for compensation after harming him in some sense.
However, she couldn’t think of anything that Cain would be interested in since the value of everything she owned was completely useless in this apocalypse.
Finally, she looked back at Cain when she thought the thing she only had in this situation.
"I’ll do anything."
"Anything?" Cain raised an eyebrow.
She nodded quickly.
"Yes."
"What can you actually do anyway? You’re useless in this fucked up world." Cain sneered in contempt, thinking that at most with how weak she was, the best she could do was to help him in doing chores or some other trivial things.
The woman lowered her gaze, her fingers trembled against her clothes.
Several seconds passed.
Then she slowly raised her head again.
A trace of embarrassment appeared through the fear on her face.
"I..."
She hesitated for a moment, her fingers tightened.
Finally, she forced herself to speak.
"I can give you my body."
Cain became silent as he had never expected that someone as gorgeous as her would offer her body just like this.
He thought that she offered herself to help with him in anything was to help him in doing anything that would just waste his time, but the answer was not something he had expected.
Cain studied her face.
Despite the words that had just left her mouth, fear remained obvious in her eyes.
His sword slowly lowered until the point faced the floor.
A faint smile appeared on his face.
"Are you sure?"
Well, if someone as gorgeous and sexy as her would offer herself to him, he definitely wouldn’t
The woman looked at him.
Cain’s expression became more serious.
"Think carefully before you answer."
Sonya looked him dead in the eye.
"I’m sure of it." She nodded
Cain stared at her for a beat, then the corner of his mouth pulled into a vicious smile as he sized her body.
"Let’s move to another room then."
The bedroom down the hall was cleaner than the one with four fresh bodies in it.
Someone had been keeping it properly before the world fell apart. Pale grey duvet tucked neatly at the corners, two pillows at the head, a small bedside lamp that still worked when Cain clicked it on. Warm yellow light filled the room.
The curtains were drawn and the outside world was still ending but here it was just a bed and two people.
Cain closed the door.
Sonya stood near the foot of the bed with her arms loose at her sides. She was looking at him with the steadiness of someone who had already made their decision and was just waiting for the rest to happen.
He looked at her properly.
She was genuinely beautiful. Silver-white hair that had mostly come loose from where it had been pinned, falling in soft waves over one shoulder and partially down her back.
Her body was a separate problem entirely.
Her waist was narrow and her hips flared out from it considerably, and everything above that waist was its own ongoing argument. She was built in a way that made rational thought take a back seat.
Cain walked toward her.
"What’s your name," Cain asked.
She blinked. That clearly wasn’t what she’d expected him to open with.
"Sonya."
