Chapter 95 | The Ancient Eggs [3rd GT & Gift]
The egg shell wasn’t smooth like an ordinary bird’s egg. Instead, it was covered with overlapping scales that resembled the scales of an ancient dragon. Tiny cracks ran across its surface, giving it an ancient and mysterious appearance.
Dexter held it up for the girls to see.
"This," he announced proudly, "is the egg of an ancient beast."
Mira stared at it. Then she looked at Dexter.
"You got scammed again," she said flatly.
Dexter’s rolled his eyes. "You can’t scam a scammer. I’ve been in the business since I was 13, of course I know if I’m been scammed."
Life in the Ashford family hadn’t been kind. He had to scam a few kind souls just to survive.
Lyra and Selene were faintly curious.
They was the first time they were curious about anything other than the second awakening ever since Dexter had met them.
Selene’s vibration-sense picked up the egg’s outline and Lyra curiously looked at it.
The egg sat in Dexter’s hands like a relic from another era.
Mira, however, wasn’t impressed. "You should probably go collect your money from whoever sold you this," she said, her voice dripping with skepticism.
Dexter shook his head slowly. "Do you want it or not?"
He began to pull the egg away, as if to take it back.
Before he could move more than a few inches, two glowing Mana arms glowing faintly with pale light. shot out from Mira’s side and snatched the egg from his hands.
Dexter smirked. "I thought you said it was a scam."
Mira said nothing. Her spectral arm gently carried the egg toward her and settled it carefully onto her lap.
While her expression remained neutral, but the fact that she had claimed it so quickly spoke volumes.
Selene and Lyra immediately moved closer, drawn by curiosity. They reached out and touched the egg’s surface.
As they touched it, their expressions changed when they realized they couldn’t see through the egg with their mana but the egg was actively sucking any mana they provided like a sponge.
The egg didn’t feel like a fake.
Mira felt it too. But she said nothing. She simply held the egg in her lap and stared at it.
"I heard it will hatch if one cultivates beside it. With the three of you cultivating by it, it would be faster than me cultivating with it. "
Dexter watched them for a moment, smiling faintly, then reached into the bag again.
"That’s not all I got for you."
He pulled out three weapons.
They had been wrapped casually in a grocery bag and bundled together like ordinary purchases. But the moment he unwrapped them, it was clear they were anything but ordinary.
The first was a beautiful black sword that seemed even darker than the shadows.
The second was a silver sword and the third was crimson sword.
He handed the black sword to Lyra.
"This one’s yours."
Then he passed the silver one to Selene.
"And this belongs to you."
Finally, he gently laid the crimson sword across Mira’s lap.
Mira stared at it before slowly looking back at him.
"You do remember that I’m paralyzed... right?"
Dexter shrugged unconcerned.
"When you become more proficient with your spectral arms," he said calmly, "you’ll be able to wield it. This weapon has a fire attribute. Once your control improves, it should complement your abilities perfectly."
Mira opened her mouth to argue, but Dexter had already turned away.
He faced Lyra next.
"The relic weapon has shadow attributes and will enhance your shadow abilities and amplify your overall talents."
Lyra’s reached out and took the weapon, her fingers curling around its dark surface.
Then Dexter turned to Selene.
She was already looking at him—or rather, looking in his direction. Her new echolocation ability painted the world in shapes and outlines, vibrations forming a three-dimensional map of everything around her.
She could see him now, not in color, but in form.
Dexter held up the silver weapon, letting her sense its outline through vibration.
"And this one," he said, "is for you."
Suddenly, Mira noticed something.
"You bought three Type 3 weapons?" Her tone was a bit high.
Dexter nodded casually. "Yeah. Got them at a discount, too. Really great deal."
The room went quiet.
Relic weapons were supposed to be rare and expensive, not the kind of thing an ordinary house husband could just walk into a store and buy three of, discount or no discount.
And yet, Dexter had done exactly that.
Mira’s eyes narrowed, a knowing smile crept onto her face.
"Now I know," she said. "There are people backing you up."
Dexter shrugged. "I never said its true."
"You never denied it either," Mira countered.
Dexter simply laughed at her observation, offering neither confirmation nor denial. Then he reached into the bag again.
This time, he pulled out two necklaces.
He had already given Mira one before, so he had purchased two similar ones for Lyra and Selene. He didn’t want the other two girls feeling left out or jealous.
He handed the necklaces to Lyra and Selene.
The two girls hesitated, wanting to refuse, but the necklaces were genuinely stunning.
They glanced at Mira, at the way her necklace sat against her neck, how perfectly it complemented her, how astonishingly beautiful it looked against her skin.
Mira noticed them looking. Her smirk returned.
"I see," she said, her voice dripping with implication. "You forcefully gave me a collar. Now you’ve gotten two similar ones for them." She tilted her head, her eyes boring into Dexter.
"Why? Are you branding us as your property?"
Dexter was momentarily stunned. Then he rolled his eyes.
"I know exactly what you’re doing. Nice try though."
Mira’s smirk didn’t falter, but she didn’t push further.
Dexter reached into the bags one final time and began pulling out the rest of the jewelry he had purchased.
Anklets, bracelets, earrings. He had even bought gold mirrors for the girls.
One by one, he laid them out on the center table, dragging it closer to the couch so they could see everything clearly.
