Chapter 549 - 546: Tenfold Rate of Fire

When Lin Xinghai felt the underground base begin to shake, his expression instantly turned grim.

He was terrified they would try to take everyone down with them, like by activating a self-destruct sequence in the laboratory.

He wouldn’t be able to escape such a massive explosion, no matter how fast he was. All he could do was wait for death.

Fortunately, his worst fears didn’t come to pass. The tremors did trigger something, but it wasn’t an explosion. Instead, secret passages leading to the outside world opened up.

At least two such passages had appeared within his two-kilometer Perception range.

Clearly, the so-called secret passage they had used to sneak in was just a decoy. The real ones were all located here in the laboratory.

And there seemed to be many of them. Without a thorough sweep, it would be impossible to know where they all led, making an interception impossible.

Lin Xinghai noticed this, and so did Kong Hua. The general’s expression changed as he roared, "You think you can escape?"

With that, he shot forward, his Speed rivaling even Lin Xinghai’s.

His entire body was enveloped in dense Blood Qi Power, and layers of Rock Armor materialized over his skin. He instantly grew taller and larger, as if transforming into a small rock giant.

Along his path, any enemy he touched died instantly, while those he merely grazed were severely wounded.

Lin Xinghai subconsciously started to give chase, but Kong Hua’s voice echoed in his ears. "I’m leaving this to you. If the pressure gets to be too much, lead the Sharp Blade Camp in a fighting retreat. I’ve already contacted the forces outside; reinforcements will arrive soon."

Hearing this, Lin Xinghai halted in his tracks.

Although the soldiers of the Sharp Blade Camp were elites with excellent combat skills, the enemy’s armed forces here were simply too numerous. With the added support of Combat Robots, the Sharp Blade Camp would surely be defeated if he left as well.

He quickly scanned the current situation.

The Sharp Blade Camp had already set up a crude defensive position using a few rooms to hold back the enemy assault.

However, the enemy combatants weren’t just foolishly rushing them. The corridor was narrow, and charging forward would be no different from suicide.

So, the enemy adopted a similar tactic, hiding in rooms or behind cover and trading fire with the camp.

However, the enemy also had fearless Combat Robots, whose death-defying charges put immense pressure on the Sharp Blade Camp.

The scene before him made Lin Xinghai’s brow furrow.

’This is practically close-quarters combat. Under normal circumstances, a firefight like this could easily last two or three hours.’

’But I don’t want to waste time here. Compared to a regular firefight, I’d much rather see what a battle between Divine Demon Realm experts looks like.’

’It’s not that I can’t end this fight quickly, it’s just that I’d have to reveal some of my special abilities to everyone.’

’Then again, I’ve already revealed a lot to the Wolf Hunting Squad. Revealing a little more now probably won’t matter.’

Thinking this, Lin Xinghai no longer hesitated. He called out to a nearby squad that was laying down suppressive fire, "Squad 8, switch your firearms to full-auto and toss them to me."

Seeing the squad members’ confused expressions, Lin Xinghai urged them, "Don’t just stand there, toss them over now! Then get ready to reload."

Lin Xinghai had been with the Sharp Blade Camp since the start, fighting his way down with them, so everyone had witnessed his incredible Gun Technique.

Although they didn’t know what he was planning, the members of Squad 8 tossed their firearms to him out of trust.

While the firearms were still in mid-air, the onlookers saw Lin Xinghai’s figure blur for a moment. In the blink of an eye, he leaped into the air, grabbing a rifle in each hand.

RAT-TAT-TAT!

The two rifles simultaneously spat fire, unleashing a dense, overwhelming barrage of bullets.

The Sharp Blade Camp soldiers who witnessed this were instantly stunned.

They weren’t shocked by Lin Xinghai’s terrifying Speed, nor by his masterful Gun Technique.

It was the rate of fire of the two rifles in his hands.

They were all using standard-issue Tearing Rifles, which had a rate of fire of 600 rounds per minute on full-auto.

That meant ten rounds a second, so it would take at least five seconds to empty a magazine.

But in Lin Xinghai’s hands, the rifles became something else entirely. The rate of fire was a full ten times faster; even a full magazine was emptied in just half a second.

After emptying the magazines, Lin Xinghai tossed the two rifles back for reloading, then immediately caught two more Tearing Rifles and kept shooting.

That’s right. In that moment, Lin Xinghai had extended his Time Acceleration Ability to the firearms, instantly increasing their rate of fire tenfold.

With a tenfold increase in fire rate, combined with his terrifying Gun Technique that could make bullets curve, he instantly became a human death machine.

Whether it was the combatants hiding behind cover or the charging Combat Robots, the enemy fell at a terrifying rate. Dozens dropped in the blink of an eye, and dozens more fell in the next.

It wasn’t just the enemy combatants; even the soldiers of the Sharp Blade Camp looked at Lin Xinghai with fear in their eyes.

But Lin Xinghai paid them no mind. All he wanted was to end the battle as quickly as possible.

In less than ten seconds, the first wave of enemies that had come to intercept them was completely annihilated.

"Let’s go! Push forward! We need to secure both levels of this underground lab as quickly as possible!" Lin Xinghai yelled, snapping the dazed Sharp Blade Camp soldiers back to reality.

"Yes, sir!" the soldiers roared in excitement, their morale soaring now that they had snapped out of their stupor.

Lin Xinghai had thought he could wrap things up here quickly, but after taking just a few steps forward, he froze. A look of shock filled his eyes.

"Captain Lin, what is it?" an adjutant beside him asked immediately upon seeing him freeze.

"Do you remember what Raphael—the Divine Demon Realm expert from this base—said to General Kong before he left?" Lin Xinghai asked, his eyes narrowing as he stared at a room not far away.

"Uh... I remember. Why do you ask?" the adjutant replied quickly, though he didn’t understand why Lin Xinghai was bringing it up.

"I finally know what he meant by the ’little gift’ he left for us."

Lin Xinghai pointed to the monsters charging out of a nearby room. "They’ve released the Corpse-men."
