Chapter 530 - 527: The Infiltration Begins
Lin Xinghai looked at the newly updated intel and felt a considerable headache coming on.
The list of missions was long. Besides destroying the armory, many other important facilities were also included as targets.
Hearing Lin Xinghai’s question, Fu Yuan smiled and explained, "This is actually quite normal. Besides, haven’t you noticed? They gave us the missions, but they never said we have to complete all of them."
"In fact, it’s impossible to complete this kind of mission anyway. Generally, the idea is to destroy as much as you can. It’s a shared mission for all the infiltration squads."
"Of course, to prevent us from wasting our efforts on the same target, the missions are given priorities."
"But if the situation allows, we can also destroy other important facilities first. That will also count toward our Merit."
Hearing this explanation, Lin Xinghai nodded. ’If that’s the case, then it’s fairly reasonable.’
"Alright, let’s move out!" Lin Xinghai said, looking at his Communication Device’s display again.
A route for their infiltration had already been planned out for them on the device.
The enemy base was located 50 meters underground. Its entrances and exits were guarded by numerous armed personnel, making it extremely difficult to get in that way.
Fortunately, the Military Department had already done their homework, figuring out the enemy’s ventilation system and some secret, hidden exits.
But even with this information, the first step of the infiltration would still be a headache for many squads.
Of course, the higher-ups had anticipated that many of the squads would fail, which was why they had dispatched a full 10 squads for this operation.
Moreover, if a squad was discovered, they were to immediately abandon the infiltration plan and switch to drawing the enemy’s attention, creating a temporary opening for the other squads.
As Lin Xinghai mulled over these things, he advanced quickly, using the surrounding rocks and bushes for cover.
The other members followed close behind. At first, Fu Yuan had been worried about Lin Xinghai’s lack of experience.
But he soon discovered that their temporary captain was far more seasoned than he had imagined.
As the squad advanced, the captain’s figure was constantly flickering in and out of sight. Even though Fu Yuan was only a few meters behind him, there were times he couldn’t see the man at all.
After noticing this, it wasn’t just him; even the other squad members felt much more at ease.
In their minds, Lin Xinghai’s image gradually changed from just being young and exceptionally talented to also being experienced.
However, after they had been advancing for a short while, Fu Yuan quickly noticed a problem. He lowered his voice and spoke through their special Communication Device, "Captain, aren’t we straying from the route?"
Though it was a question, it was meant as a reminder.
"One o’clock, about 300 meters out. Two visible sentries and one hidden one. The probability of being discovered if we go that way is high," Lin Xinghai explained in a low voice as he continued to advance.
"Captain, how did you spot them?" Fu Yuan was stunned.
That was a full 300 meters away. And in such complex terrain, it should have been impossible to see that far.
Forget 300 meters; a lot of the time, it was hard to spot anyone even 30 meters away. After all, if they were easy to spot, they wouldn’t be called hidden sentries.
And those hidden sentries were incredibly deadly. The slightest oversight, one moment of being discovered, and the infiltration mission could be declared a failure.
The others, of course, had also realized this, and they were all shocked.
Their gazes toward Lin Xinghai now held something more. They were gradually getting the feeling that this captain assigned by the higher-ups was a bit of a mystery.
In response to their unspoken question, Lin Xinghai had nothing to hide. He just smiled and said, "I’ve mastered a special Perception Secret Technique called the Investigation Technique."
"Once you learn it, you can use your Perception Power to accurately investigate objects, just like a Divine Demon Realm expert."
"You can learn the Investigation Technique directly at the East Sea Academy library. Even though you don’t have Credit Points, I think you can exchange Merit for it!" While explaining, Lin Xinghai didn’t forget to plug the Cultivation Technique.
The others were slightly stunned. They instantly realized the importance of this Perception Secret Technique, especially for a special forces squad like theirs that often had to undertake infiltration missions.
"Captain, is that Investigation Technique expensive?" Fu Yuan’s interest was piqued, and he immediately asked.
"10,000 Credit Points. As for how much Merit you’d need to exchange for it, I don’t know," Lin Xinghai said.
These words immediately swayed the members of the Wolf Hunting Squad.
The exchange rate between their Merit and Credit Points was one-to-one. Of course, it required a special application and was a bit of a hassle, but if the Investigation Technique was truly as miraculous as Lin Xinghai claimed, then it would all be worth it.
After all, their current Perception Power could already extend 300 to 400 meters. If they learned the Investigation Technique, they could avoid crises like this even without Lin Xinghai around.
For the next leg of the journey, with Lin Xinghai leading the way, everyone felt remarkably at ease.
Taking a winding path, the group encountered no surprises and managed to sneak forward four kilometers.
At this point, they were only one last kilometer away from the entrance to the enemy’s underground base.
Of course, this final kilometer would be twice as difficult as the previous four kilometers combined.
Within the range of Lin Xinghai’s Perception, densely packed sentries appeared. A slight glance upward was all it took to see the constantly patrolling teams.
But the bigger problem was the hidden sentries concealed in various secret spots. Together with the visible sentries, they formed an inescapable net.
Lin Xinghai thought for a moment, then had Ping Zeyan release his Superpower, allowing the group to blend in with their surroundings and achieve a state of near-Invisibility.
Only then did he discuss the next phase of the plan with the others. "From here on, we can’t continue to advance silently."
Fu Yuan wasn’t surprised by Lin Xinghai’s assessment; he was even mentally prepared for it. In fact, he already found it incredible that they had made it this far safely.
"Then, Captain, do you have any suggestions? Or should we stick to the original plan?" Fu Yuan asked respectfully.
Along the way, their attitude toward Lin Xinghai had completely changed. They now saw him as a truly experienced captain.
"From now on, we’ll have to fight our way through according to the plan. We need to get into their underground base before they can react."
"However, I’ll use my Speed advantage to move out first. If I run into any problems I can’t handle, I’ll have you all coordinate with me to solve them," Lin Xinghai said.
Normally, they should have advanced as a squad. That way, when they encountered hidden sentries, they could coordinate to take out the enemy as quickly and silently as possible.
Of course, that was the standard procedure for a normal squad. But with Lin Xinghai here, things were completely different.
With his Speed, it would only be more efficient for him to act alone.
