Chapter 526 - 523: Entering the Military Department
After their modifications, both Mjolnir and the Battle Armor had been greatly enhanced.
The Battle Armor, of course, enhanced Lin Xinghai’s Time Acceleration Ability.
The effect was similar to the enhancements provided by a Mecha. The range of Lin Xinghai’s Superpower, which had previously only covered him, could now affect up to ten people.
It was also worth noting that during this time, he had been continuously familiarizing himself with and mastering his Time Acceleration Ability.
As a result, his proficiency with the Superpower had reached a new level.
He could now target a specific object near him and put it into a state of Time Acceleration, rather than just expanding the Superpower’s range outward from his own body.
Of course, this had its limits. The object had to be within ten meters of him.
In other words, he could easily place anything that entered a ten-meter radius around him into a state of 10x Time Acceleration.
This was where the Battle Armor’s function came into play. Lin Xinghai could now designate up to ten other people around him to directly enter the Time Acceleration State.
This effectively turned his personal buff into a group buff. In squad-based combat, its effect would be immeasurable.
But beyond the Battle Armor, he was even more satisfied with Mjolnir’s enhancements.
The previous miniature version of Mjolnir was decent, but it was ultimately a weapon for the Blood Qi Advancement stage.
But now, having been modified with a Third Level Biological Alloy, the spear could almost be considered equipment fit for a Divine Demon Realm expert.
At least, that was true in terms of its sharpness and hardness.
As for its other effects—amplifying Thunder Energy, increasing the transmission speed of Blood Qi Power, and reducing consumption—the results would of course be far greater in the hands of a Divine Demon Realm expert than in his.
Even so, Lin Xinghai was quite satisfied. After all, with Mjolnir’s fundamental power, he no longer had to worry about being unable to break through the Defense of even a Body Shaping Realm Defensive Superpower User.
...
Three days passed in a flash, and when it was time for the mission, Zuo Wenyao personally brought Lin Xinghai to the Military Department headquarters in East Sea Base.
"This is the Military Department’s headquarters?" Lin Xinghai asked, his face full of doubt as he stared at the three-story building before him. It was only a little over 500 square meters.
A house this size would be considered spacious for living in.
But as the Military Department’s headquarters, it was far too shabby! ’How many people could you even fit in here? One or two hundred would probably be the limit.’
"Haha, to be precise, this is just the entrance to the Military Department’s headquarters."
"The real headquarters is inside the Floating Island. Its area is equivalent to half the size of East Sea Base." Zuo Wenyao, knowing exactly what Lin Xinghai was thinking, explained with a smile.
After hearing this, Lin Xinghai couldn’t help but draw in a sharp breath. The East Sea Base was nearly the size of an entire city. ’Doesn’t that mean the Military Department’s headquarters is half the size of a city?’
Only now did Lin Xinghai have a tangible sense of East Sea Base’s power.
He also understood how they could suppress an Abyssal Passage while simultaneously being ready to reinforce other locations at a moment’s notice.
He didn’t ask any more questions. After bidding farewell to Zuo Wenyao, he entered the seemingly ordinary building.
As he stepped through the main entrance, he saw soldiers armed with guns standing guard.
He presented the soldiers with the identification Zuo Wenyao had given him. Once it was confirmed, he walked a short distance down a corridor and found himself in an enormous hall.
He suspected the hall took up at least two-thirds of the entire building’s footprint.
The perimeter of the hall was lined with elevators.
The layout was quite similar to the elevator lobbies in other Shelters.
Lin Xinghai stared at the more than thirty elevator entrances, a headache forming. ’There isn’t a single staff member here. Where am I supposed to go? Should I just pick one at random?’
He didn’t hesitate for long, though, and simply chose an elevator at random and stepped inside.
Once inside, he found he no longer had to worry about it—the elevator only had a single button to go down.
Lin Xinghai pressed it, and the elevator began a rapid descent. The journey lasted only a little over ten seconds before it came to a halt.
When the elevator doors opened, more fully-armed soldiers were waiting to perform a secondary identity check.
This time, in addition to presenting his Identity Card, Lin Xinghai also had to undergo fingerprint and iris scans.
"This way, Lieutenant Lin," the soldier said respectfully after confirming his identity. "Since this is your first mission, a guide bot will take you to your destination."
’So what I heard was true,’ Lin Xinghai thought, raising an eyebrow at the title. ’Graduates from East Sea Academy start as officers the moment they join the military.’
’Wait, that’s not right. I haven’t even graduated, and I’m already a Second Lieutenant. If I can accumulate some Merit over the next few years, does that mean I could become a field-grade officer right after graduation?’ As he considered this, Lin Xinghai smiled and nodded at the soldier.
Just then, a watermelon-sized metal sphere flew over, propelled by small, extended rotors.
"I am Guide Bot model AE185-154. Please follow me," a synthesized electronic voice spoke up.
Lin Xinghai followed it to the right and soon entered another room.
Here, he saw rows of personal flyers.
They were oval-shaped metal discs, only thirty centimeters in diameter. Following the bot’s instructions, Lin Xinghai stepped onto one.
The guide bot then descended, fitting perfectly into a protruding slot on the front of the flyer. The connection was seamless, as if they were a single unit.
Lin Xinghai then understood they were a matched set.
Without any input from him, the personal flyer activated, gradually levitating about thirty centimeters off the ground. It quickly exited the room through another passage.
Lin Xinghai realized he was in a special transit tunnel, one seemingly designed exclusively for these personal flyers.
He wasn’t alone. Other flyers would periodically enter and exit the tunnel, much like cars on a highway.
However, this highway wasn’t flat; it was three-dimensional. Standing on the flyer, he was carried up, down, and through a series of different areas.
Through occasional openings, he glimpsed metal corridors, workshops filled with machinery, armories packed with all sorts of equipment, and laboratories containing countless high-tech instruments.
Finally, the flyer guided Lin Xinghai out of a narrow exit and into a large hall.
Nearly a thousand people were already gathered in the hall: soldiers, officers, and some others in Combat Suits whose identities were unclear.
But without exception, every single one of them radiated a grim, deadly aura.
