Chapter 2005 - 2001: Entangled Grievances and Resentments
When Xi He saw the infant in Lei Zu’s arms, her entire face turned green with envy. This was the answer she had been desperate to find, and today it finally emerged.
It turned out that Lei Zu’s daughter belonged to Li Yunhuo, and Xi He had always regarded Li Yunhuo’s incarnation, Zhuo Junwu, whom she affectionately called "Little Zhuozi," as a promising young man. Yet she had no idea that this young man was responsible for her prolonged suffering. As she glared at Xuan Nu, Xi He sought additional answers, hoping Xuan Nu would provide them.
At this moment, Xuan Nu closed her eyes, seemingly oblivious to the scene before her. Xi He eventually broke the silence, asking, "Xuan Nu, what is your relationship with Lei Zu? Why are both of you in these images?"
Ye Fan also released the restriction on Xuan Nu, who replied, "What should I say? These matters are merely images manifested by Ye Fan’s unknown means. Do you truly believe these images are real? Have you not questioned whether these images are just Ye Fan’s fabrications?"
"No way, I can sense the truth hidden behind these images," Xi He replied sternly. "Xuan Nu, there’s no point in denying it any further. Since everything has reached this stage, and the heavenly tribulation is imminent, is there any purpose in concealing these truths?"
Xuan Nu continued to keep her eyes shut, evidently unwilling to disclose the details.
The scene before Ye Fan shifted to a battle between Li Yunhuo and Lei Zu, as Li Yunhuo attempted to take the child from Lei Zu. Due to the child’s birth, Lei Zu’s power significantly paled in comparison to Li Yunhuo’s. In her attempt to shield her daughter from being taken, Lei Zu unleashed immense energy, shattering her daughter’s physical form and rendering her a soul body.
In a fit of rage, Li Yunhuo struck Lei Zu, causing her soul to scatter.
Xuan Nu watched this unfold with a sigh of regret, while Xi He seemed to grasp some understanding, as Lei Zu’s fate following this was known to her. The mystery of why Lei Zu became a soul body had never been answered by Lei Zu herself, but now all questions were resolved.
"It seems that this concludes everything," Ye Fan commented.
Xi He fell silent, gazing at the scene before her with reluctance. "I hadn’t expected the sequence of events to be so convoluted. Xuan Nu and Lei Zu’s experiences differ notably; while both had connections with Li Yunhuo, it was Lei Zu who truly became Li Yunhuo’s woman, not Xuan Nu."
Xuan Nu scrutinized Xi He closely and remarked, "As an ancient entity, I won’t lower myself for a mere human. Although Li Yunhuo back then was just as tyrannical and unreasonable as today’s Ye Fan!"
Despite her words, she had indeed succumbed to Ye Fan, wholly submitting to him. She had even signed a blood oath, becoming his servant.
Ye Fan spoke, "The biggest issue now is the origin energy of Lan Jing. Where does it come from? Previously, Nu Ying suggested Lan Jing was the daughter of Li Yunhuo, but that seems unlikely now. Yet, Lan Jing’s origins remain enshrouded in mystery. It seems only Li Yunhuo and you, Xuan Nu, know the complete story."
"I don’t know, don’t ask me," Xuan Nu replied defiant, "Don’t you supposedly know everything? Then investigate independently and don’t come asking me. I need to protect my daughter..."
Xi He sneered, "You’re still claiming Lan Jing is your daughter. Surely even you don’t believe such nonsense now?"
Ye Fan didn’t say much, observing remnants of the images, he commented, "In this affair, Xuan Nu is as much a victim. Questioning her equates to reopening old wounds, causing her further pain. It’s better if I approach the other involved party."
"Do you intend to talk to Lei Zu or Li Yunhuo himself?" Xi He asked, looking at Ye Fan.
Ye Fan replied, "Lei Zu is unlikely to answer. Currently, Lei Zu is teetering on the brink of madness, and I’m not interested in provoking that. However, Li Yunhuo — now Zhuo Junwu — presumably knows the full truth. He previously tried to recruit me to join Li Huo Sect and support the heavenly tribulation rather than save it. He surely has no reason now to keep the affairs of the chosen one a secret any longer."
"Master should best avoid going," Xi He advised, "I think it’ll be unwise. Li Yunhuo’s prowess springs from the heavenly tribulation, reaching terrifying levels. His powers are not straightforward. He parasitized Zhuo Junwu before failing to find an energy breakthrough, so Zhuo Junwu never revealed his true cultivation back then. Now... it would be best for master to keep distance from him."
Ye Fan scrutinized Xi He, "Now it appears Li Yunhuo is your adversary. Why don’t you want to kill him?"
"It’s all in the past, nothing to do with me now," Xi He sighed helplessly, "I’m master’s woman now, why dwell on past grievances? Even with Lei Zu harming me, I’ve let it slide. Besides, I’ve realized she initially sided with me because Li Yunhuo shattered her soul. Perhaps in her heart, Li Yunhuo remains her beloved rather than me. Becoming petty now would make me seem foolishly meticulous!"
Ye Fan nodded, "Glad to see you can rise above. After all this time, many ancient grudges should thus be settled. Even if you don’t wish to confront Li Yunhuo, I must. His guidance brought me into the cultivation realm, and now he wants to exploit me, I cannot allow that. I, Ye Fan, must ascertain the origins of the chosen one. Xuan Nu, you are coming with me."
"Why me!?" Xuan Nu glared at Ye Fan.
"Because you brought these troubles. Lan Jing, although not your daughter, grew under your shelter. Despite ultimately exploiting her, my belief is you offered much guidance, and her animosity towards you may not exist," Ye Fan replied, "It’s best that you accompany me to meet Li Yunhuo and clarify everything between him, you and others, resolving grudges spanning millennia. Isn’t that reasonable?"
"I’m not going," Xuan Nu defiantly glared at Ye Fan.
"You must," Ye Fan replied coldly, "Your choice is irrelevant. What I decide cannot be altered."
