Japan: A New Age

Commencement of construction

On 8 October, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. It was hosted by Minister Yamane himself.

Professor Yamado, Professor Yamamura, Professor Sano of Mechanical Engineering in charge of Motors and Professor Mizutani in charge of Batteries are present from Gangnam University. From the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry there are 10 deputy secretaries, also 3 from the Ministry of National Transport, 2 from the Economic Planning Agency, 2 from the Ministry of Finance, 4 from Gangnam University and 2 others as academic experience. The MC is Director Tanaka.

"Thank you for attending today.

Today, as you can see, it is meant to formulate the primacy of the construction of the Fusion Reactor from an implementation point of view. I ask the minister first "MC to cut the tantrum.

"There is no doubt that the content of the Prime Minister's discourse in general has spread to the world and has had a serious impact, among other things, on oil-producing countries.

Instead of falling oil prices, however, it is the current situation that has come extremely strongly from a considerable number of suppliers, either from the point of view of the present. The status quo nego situation is one that can make you shop a lot higher, but 180 days means you want to take advantage of a certain stockpile so that you don't have to manage to shop higher.

Therefore, regardless of nuclear fusion generators, we have today's meeting because we also want to take ultra- and batteries and motors to dissemination as soon as possible. Please, I ask for your help "the minister will say his first words.

"Thank you. First of all, I would like to ask Professor Yamamura about the progress of the standard design and the envisaged construction period for each reactor scale. Doctor, please" more MC.

"Yes, standard designs include 10, 50, and 1 million kW ones complete. They all basically fit into rectangular plots, with 100,000 steel frames and 500,000 and a million concrete foundations. The size, as in your dossier, is 30 mx20 m at 1 million kW, so I don't think there is a problem with securing this degree of land wherever you make it. Although many of the constituent devices are already commercialized, there are also quite a few newly manufactured objects, such as reactor bodies. Therefore, during the construction period, it will depend on these new productions, but the equipment being commercialized can also be a constraint in terms of inventory, or production period, etc.

As you can see in your dossier, we assume that we will manufacture the equipment in two shifts, regardless of whether we make and purchase it all as a top priority. The assembly also concludes that 8 months at 1 million kW as the best talent is gathered twice and proceeded with 2 shifts. This would be the limit.

In addition, there are currently 100 engineers in the course gathered with the good offices of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, who are asked to produce purchase order specifications based on standard blueprints and specifications that they have been able to do as part of the course. Exactly, they are used to this sort of thing even if the fields are different, and I also think there are a lot of people who are basically good and it's possible enough to build with them as construction directors. The duration of the course is one month, but at the end of the day you decide who will be in charge of each site. In the case of 1 million kW, you will first be asked to complete the ordering work internally for each team, to prepare the site while managing the production and, in due course, to go to the site of each electricity company to carry out the assembly.

In the first row, 10 people each will be responsible for the construction of 8 1 million kW FR machines. Twenty people will continue to produce 100,000 kW and 20 packaged reactors at the Yotsubishi Gangnam plant. This is a site facing the port in the factory, assembled inside a temporary roof and transported by boat. By and large, the first 20 lots in six months are expected to be completed.

Therefore, in the case of 1 million kW aircraft, the first simultaneous construction starts at 8 units, but every time the training of 100 technicians is completed, 20 FR machines of 100,000 kW for 20 people and 8 FR machines of 1 million kW for 80 people can be carried out. So far, there are up to five courses in Gangnam City, after which we are going to send 10 people to each site separately to help them remember their jobs. So for FR machines, construction will begin in November, and a million kW of equipment will be in operation next August-September with the first eight units, then a month later with the next eight units and 40 units at the end of next year, and probably almost 200 million kW again next year.

Meanwhile, 100,000 kW will basically be installed for aluminum and other factories where small-scale power generation is needed for grid reasons, but we will be able to have about 150 units by the end of next year. "

"Thank you for the very close material. Minister, here's the thing, I'm glad about this" MC presses for precautions.

"Yes, Dr. Yamamura, thank you. Um, this is very difficult to say, but I'd like to ask my teacher to direct this construction plan. I mostly looked, but there are people who don't find as many people as teachers, and vice versa, if they were under teachers" ministers say sorry.

"Yes! Am I? Mm-hmm. Well, that's a boat on board. I'll take care of one next year. After that, please use the people you grew up in" Yamamura answers.

"Yes! Thank you. That's what I'm asking you. Good," the minister says with a smile.

Even from Tanaka, thank you. "Thank you, Doctor.

Well, now for location selection, as a basic policy, we consider it a top priority because power transmission facilities are in place for non-operational nuclear power stations. May I make this point? "

Everybody agrees, "Great."

Continue with consent. "As for the order, for the first eight units, first of all, Fukushima at Toyo, which is the reason for dispelling bad reviews, and radiological measures, there is one thing about wanting to use electricity. More of the same Kashiwasaki from Toyo, - -" continues the story about the location for a while.

The comment from Yamamura reads: "I have no objection to the position of the first eight units. That and what I would ask is that each plant will have a technician construction manager, but it will be necessary to have an electricity company representative in charge of the management. But let the person in charge of the building only have the authority relating to the construction. Prepare even more funds and let him have the authority to decide as well. Furthermore, we ask for the full cooperation of the electricity company in securing the first office, means of communication and vehicles on board"

Take that, says the MC. "Okay. I strongly offer to the electricity company, and I will make sure our ministry checks. I'm afraid you could use the earlier request clause as a sentence.

And, as I was saying earlier, it is the current situation where we do not see an end to the problem of radioactivity in Fukushima in Toyo, especially with the problem of contaminated water. On this matter, I have consulted Dr. Makimura and Mr. Shunhei Yoshikawa, who were to have launched a new theory about atoms, and I have received a reply that I see a solution. It means that processing equipment should be installed along with the construction of FR machines. So far, however, it is meant that it should be moved after the FR machine is driven because of the high consumption of electricity.

Now, the next step is to convert automobiles to electric drives by utilizing super batteries and motors. Are you sure you want to go with this name in the future, as I am starting to call this S-type battery and S-type motor with S-type on it. Nice.

Professor Sano or Professor Mizutani, please. "

"Now, as part of automotive engineering, I will answer you from Sano.

Please refer to the material at hand. As things stand at present, for both S-type batteries and motors, theoretical establishment had already been made, and it is to be published in this year's Society for Electrical and Mechanical Sciences, the Automotive Society and also in several international professional journal papers.

The battery also determines the substance that becomes the medium, and the function and structure are also optimally valued, complete with three prototypes. This is at 100, 500 and 1000 kW and we assume that the biggest one, weighing 10kg, 30cmx40cmx30cm high, would be around 100,000 yen for the price "

"Ooh!" The twitch happens.

More Sano continues. "So far, I'm going to standardize about 5 different things up to 1000kW.

On the other hand, S-type batteries cannot, in principle, be charged by supplying power and need to be electronically excited in the factory. It will therefore take the form of replacing batteries in stands, as also announced by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

For this excitement, the power will be used, but at about 10 kW for the 1000 kW one, the non-laborious cost is very small. Perhaps the cost of a single replacement at the largest is about 2,000 to 3,000 yen. For dissemination, production systems need to be put in place first. This means that existing battery manufacturers are desirable if possible, and with the good offices of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, we have sent a technician to explain the specific production facilities.

An extremely rushed project means that the manufacturer seems to have already placed an order for the renovation of the plant and equipment, and the answer to the current situation is that it will be put into mass production next spring.

S-type motor on the other hand, but this is also basically to the existing manufacturer, which is equally in preparation. This means that it is for many uses of aluminum and requires working with aluminum manufacturers, but this is also to be put into mass production in about 3 months. The automaker also asked me to add to the explanation that although the number is small, the mass production of electric cars themselves is already in so far, and there does not appear to be any major problems. Being in touch with the battery and the motor manufacturer to decide on the model will still show up next spring with an S-type battery and a car with a motor.

Then, battery excitation plants need to be made nationwide. This is similar to a 100,000 kW nuclear fusion generator, the design is over and we are thinking of building 50 by next spring and 200 by the end of next year. We ask the oil vendor to build and operate this. "

The meeting, it should be noted, ended for an hour, including questions.

The Minister's Nakane was very satisfied with the content of the meeting, with the progress made beyond expectations.

Kenji Sakayama is a 45-year-old engineer at Miyoda Engineering and is the head of the Construction Planning Department and Facilities Division. I have also worked overseas for 5 years and have come this far to work on the construction, renewal and repair of petrochemical plants.

For him, however, Prime Minister Ayama's discourse on 10 September was a nightmare. The industry disappears, believing that I have worked proudly and have a future. No, it's not going to disappear, but it's going to be about 1/5 now and we're going to do it in detail. He says he'll take a remedy as a country, but he doesn't want to continue doing things that he can't do with pride.

His ext phone rang. "I'm Toyota, executive secretary of Yamashita. If it's convenient, I'd like you to come to the executive office in 15 minutes".

"Yes, I will," he said, having a restless time, raising his hips and knocking on the executive room upstairs.

"Go ahead," the secretary opens, invites, opens the back door and speaks out, "Managing Director, Chief Narayama is here".

Among the openings, two other people sit with Managing Director Yamashita, who is closely associated with his junior year, Zhang Yamada. The other two are still engineers and assistant managers three to four years down: Shibata and Yoshian.

"Thank you. Have a busy place, - aren't you very busy right now? Not since the Prime Minister's story." Yamashita looked over at everyone's face,

"Actually, there has been a meeting from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry for about a week now, and we are going to get 20 people out of the company and have them go to Gangnam City next week," he surprises, continuing further to everyone staring.

"This is about the Prime Minister yesterday. The completion of the nuclear fusion generator seems to be a fact.

Performance, etc., is as the Prime Minister said, written in newspapers, etc. Our company loses most of its rice seeds called petroleum fuel. But in response, they want engineers from petrochemical companies like ours, and companies that have used oil or nuclear power from generators, nuclear manufacturers, etc., to call them nuclear fusion generators, FR machines, but they want to be involved in their construction.

As a government, I intend to replace the generator of the current power with an FR machine as soon as possible. Currently, Japanese electricity companies have about 200 million kW of electricity generation capacity, so we need 200 FR machines of 1 million kW. In addition, if the electricity bill reaches 1/2 or 1/3, the usage will naturally increase, so I wonder if 300 units are necessary. Either way, you'll be in charge of the construction. We probably moisturize in the form of a few orders.

For the time being, he will be lecturing and training at Gangnam University in Gangnam City, but that period is one month. Immediately thereafter, each person in charge of construction will be designated and the construction will be executed. At first, as I will be a preparer, I will gather people within the company today to write purchase order specifications and get them to enter the site in due course while following manufacturing. I want you to be prepared that you won't get a year to build.

The personnel who will take this course for each construction will naturally be able to hire as many staff and workers as necessary for the construction, although 10 are scheduled. If you can, I want you to extract the necessary staff from within the company during the course. I want to comply with the request as much as possible. It should be noted that this job is ordered from an electricity company, but there is no need for quotes, etc., unlike normal. It will take the form of a liquidation later, and the money requested along the way is promised to be paid. "

The engineers gathered looked at each other and said Nariyama, "This is a delightful story. By the way, is it a million kW FR aircraft, how much will it be?"

"By and large, they say 10 billion. Anyway, the development of the 100,000 kW thing is about 1.8 billion. It seems to be the size of riding another 20mx30m concrete base," says Yamashita.

Says the young Shibata anxiously. "But once the construction's over, we're out of work again."

Executive Director Yamashita returns it. "Yes, I have that concern, but I have an update, and the construction overseas is enormous. I think we have a future. Also, from the oil foreclosure company, we're talking about a new type of battery that was in the Prime Minister's story, and that's not going to flush and charge the electricity. Again, it seems to mean inspiring with something like this 100,000 kW class FR machine. We need to make this all over the country. Ultimately, three to five places will be made in each province. They're coming to talk about building and running this to an oil wholesaler, and we have a voice. I think this creates a lot of demand."

Narayama and Yamada go to Gangnam City, live in a hotel in the city, and drive to Gangnam University about 10 minutes each day.

Even when it comes to courses, if you learn theory and systems as a classroom and are given a standard design drawing, it goes hand in hand with normal plant work rather than something as complex and massive as an oil plant. It essentially involves splitting up between the companies from which it comes and quickly sorting specifications and drawing up detailed drawings. Fortunately, all the members gathered were excellent. After a month, they were almost ready, with the exception of purchase order specifications, purchase order diagrams and equipment costs, for which neither the budget nor the preparation had so far been quoted, and they were almost ready themselves.

With regard to the reactor body, the material is a 20mm thick, 7m diameter cylindrical type made of SUS 316 material. It is not particularly complex, but it is an excitation device. The internal structure of the electronic gun, magnetic field generator, etc. is not that huge anyway, and cannot be said to be special. The know-how seemed to lie in how to move those excitation devices, whose controls were in black boxes so that they could not be set except by Professors Yamado and Murayama and Associate Professors Makimura.

During that course, a radioactive decontamination facility was also described. It seems that a small prototype has already been made and brought to Fukushima and is doing well. The point is the application of excitation of the fusion reaction of FR machines, which, if you change the conditions of excitation slightly, can stabilize unstable substances that produce gamma rays and the like. However, since there is no chain reaction like a fusion machine, it becomes a power multiconsumption type installation. Radioactive removal of water as a facility is easy, and you can do the wheel of the reactor part that is causing its excitation through the water at high speed. Radioactive soil, equipment, etc. are still things that need to be done through those big cylinders in the excitation state. However, the power consumption was that 50,000 kW of water equipment and 150,000 kW of solid equipment were required, which initially meant that a million kW machines would be moved after operation, but the FR installation team in Fukushima was supposed to install them ahead of schedule in response to a request from the government to hurry.

A month later, at the end of the ceremony, they are all gathered in the college hall. I need to talk to you from Professor Yamamura, who was the chairman of the workshop.

"Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for your hard work this past month.

Those of us who have worked as lecturers are practically new to teaching people who have been active in a society like yours, and it was a trial and error to do so, but on the contrary, we will have been preparing for the construction of FR machines rather than courses, as you have been taught. Perhaps if you decide to take charge and arrange a budget, you'll be ordered right away. Thank you. With this, you have completed this course.

I will now announce each person in charge. "

Sakayama and 20 of Miyoda Engineering employees were set to build two 1 million kW FR planes in Kashiwasaki.

There was a party that night at a hotel in the city, and the participants stopped wearing out.

Narayama was able to look back with satisfaction at the past month, which had been short if he had finished, drinking beer.
