Lesson 14: The Brave and the Virgin

"Is that a 'Virgin' vocation... is that a vocation?

"No more, don't say that because it's embarrassing!

Cherry blossoms that blush and poke their cheeks are as usual everywhere. Isn't that how people change things, even with the extraordinary power given to them by this otherworldly god of 'vocation'?

"That's the kind of brother you are, what about the 'brave' vocation?

"Ha ha, I knew you'd be embarrassed when they said that towards your face"

If you noticed, my vocation was to be 'brave'. I don't use the example magic formation, but still, I clearly remember the voice of the goddess I heard when the armored bear knocked me down and distant my consciousness.

"You bring white light to the world - be the 'brave'"

That's what the goddess said. I'm sure I became a 'brave man' at that moment.

"Ha, before we save the world, we'll do our best about ourselves first."

"I'll be home as soon as I get out of here."

"Of course you are. Why are you being so annoying?"

"'Cause, brother, people in this world are having trouble getting attacked by demons, and if it comes to that, they're not going to help without taking risks."

Well, if I can help you, I can help you.

"But if that's how you're going to keep fighting cheats, what will you do? There may be times when you get caught up in a war... it's not like fighting bad in Japan."

I know. I'm sure 'fighting' in this other world presupposes risking your life, both for yourself and for your opponent. If we continue such a harsh battle, we can easily imagine its end.

"I'm fine. I will definitely get out of this dungeon with the cherry blossoms and everyone and go back to the original world. I can't go wrong with my priorities."

"Yes, brother. But don't carry it too much on your own. Even I can fight because of my vocation."

"Oh, yeah, I'm counting on you, cherry blossoms"

I have already seen the strength of the cherry blossom vocation, the Virgin.

I'm taking a break from getting to the 'Fairy Square' that it's a safe zone now, so I'll think back to the battle of cherry blossoms again. Again, don't feel smudged when they're all powerful abilities.

There are three first abilities given in vocation.

"Protector of Light (Holy Enchant)": Grants the power of white light to all things. The brilliance pays off evil and retreats the demon.

"Light Arrow (Lux Sagitta)": Lower Attack Magic of Light Attributes, emitting arrows of white light.

"Healing Glow (Healing Light)": Healing magic that combines healing (Cure) with healing (Heel) and both effects.

These were the capabilities of cherry blossoms. I can only think of succinct descriptions, so there's no other way to see how effective they actually are than to try them out.

And cherry blossoms showed me their abilities against a bone demon as it appeared in the game, called 'Skeleton', wandering down the aisle of the dungeon.

The first amazing thing is the power of the Light Arrow (Lux Sagitta). Pull the bow of the bow that the cherry blossom had, and you will see there a white, shining arrow of light. If it is released, it leaves a beautiful trajectory of light in the universe and flies off to be sucked into the skeleton.

At the same time as the hit, the dazzling light bursts and later only remains the remains of a fragmented bone.

Skeleton's bones are not brittle. I'm actually fighting to see how hard it is. At least, stubborn to the same extent as a normal human being. As much as I slapped him a little, he shouldn't even get a crack in it.

That's what's blowing up in the wood dust, so don't measure its power by extrapolation. I don't want to imagine for a second what would happen if I hit it alive.

The next thing I tried was The Guardian of Light (Holy Enchant). When the cherry blossoms put their hands on my wooden knife, the blurry white light blinks, and after a few seconds, the magic is complete. The wooden knife begins to dwell in a sacred white glow.

If you slap a skeleton in this glowing state, the bone's body will collapse like sand.

Light attributes work great for undead skeletons when it's a game, it feels like, but does it work like those weaknesses and corrections in this world as well? Even if it doesn't have a special effect on the undead, I actually swung and found that the wooden knife applied by this' Protector of Light (Holy Enchant) 'is much harder than normal. Normally, a wooden knife won't even freak out if you tap it against the wall with momentum that would definitely break it.

Although there is magic effect time, it is fine if it is timely. Thanks to you, I only need one wooden knife. I never took care of Skeleton's swinging stick.

I haven't tried the last "Healing Glow (Healing Light)" yet because fortunately there are no noticeable injuries yet. The serious injuries I sustained by the armored bear also remained intact now because I was recovering fully for some reason the moment I woke up to the brave man.

But when you see this tremendous magical power, you can also expect this healing magical effect. Above all, these means of recovery are imperative as we continue to move forward with dangerous dungeons where demons walk wide. In a way, this healing magic one might be more valuable than combat ability.

Hopefully, we'll be able to get out of here without a show all the time, but it won't be that easy to think of some powerful demons like armored bears as well as weak skeletons.

"... ha, this fairy walnut, it doesn't taste bad, but for a while to come, when you think this is all you can eat, you're a little disgusted"

"Don't say that. It's a blessing to be able to provide stability and nutrition in such a survival situation."

"My brother's a mountain cage with his grandfather, and you might be used to this sort of thing."

No, I've never been to a dungeon where such demons peel, even in my training with my grandfather on a boulder. Well, that grandfather would be happy to attack, but I'm not that much of a battle-hungry fighter fanatic. Quickly, I want to return to my usual peaceful student life.

That thought, now I'm done eating fairy walnuts to forget, and I get up.

"All right, then... I'll check it out"

"Ugh, brother, I knew you'd find out,"

The cherry blossoms blatantly flaunt his face, but there was a forerunner in this fairy square who unleashed a very unobtrusive presence.

"It's a cavalier's body, no matter what you think. Besides, the sword still seems to be on your hips... it would be a great chance to get the weapon"

Yes, it is a white bone corpse, dressed in thin, dirty armor. Probably the knight of the Kingdom of Astoria. The demons attacked me during my quest for the dungeon, and I felt like the wounds on what had escaped so far were too deep and intact.

I don't want to think this is who I am in the future. Namamidabutsu, and only pray for the best.

"Be a skeleton, and you won't attack me, will you?

"If it's me now, I can handle it even if it's a fight, so be it."

Not as good as when you smash an armored bear with a sword of light, but oddly, your body is light and overflowing with power. In fact, I'm confirming on the road that my physical abilities are clearly rising more than I was until yesterday. I just can't figure out how far I can fight right now because my skeleton opponents couldn't give it all.

"Look, you're not moving"

The fact that the corpse remains a corpse proves that there is no reaction whatsoever, even if I inadvertently start fishing for gear. I'm just relieved that I'm not an undead monster, but, well, I shouldn't be asking girls for the spirituality of being able to gear fishing as a delight before a white bone corpse in the first place. Speaking of cherry blossoms, I'm surprisingly scared. I don't like horror movies or anything.

In the meantime, the real deal with stripping is my responsibility. Firstly, remove the longsword of greatest concern from the belt for each sheath. Quickly, pull out and test yourself.

"This is amazing... a fine sword. It's not rusty, and it's pretty well built."

"Sure, it's beautiful as new. Could it be magic?"

It's not an impossible story. The armor has a lighter design like the emphasis on mobility, but elaborate designs have been revealed everywhere, making it look very unlikely to be a soldier. This sword also has a red lion-like crest that doesn't look like it's just mass produced. Could this man be noble.

For example, it wouldn't be strange if this sword had the magic to keep its sharp. But we don't know for sure right now.

"- Yeah, this would be perfect in action."

"It's going to be much more dependable than a wooden knife"

I actually feel even better about the goodness of this sword when I shook it bare. Now it would be great if it were a knife, but to a boulder, I wouldn't be so selfish until I came to another world. Instead, should I think Shotel or some weird form of sword like that was better than mainstream?

"Sorry for the knight, but I appreciate this sword, I'll let you use it"

Crude, when I'm done checking my gear, I'll worship the knight's white bone corpse again, then I'll put this long sword on my own hips.

The only weapon I got from a knight was a long sword and another dagger I had. The dagger is well preserved and I don't see any rust. After all, it had the same red lion crest as the sword.

"The dagger is for protection, the cherry blossom holds it"

"No, I... wouldn't it be more useful if your brother had"

"'Light Arrow (Lux Sagitta)' would be dangerous at close range. Besides, you've learned how to use a cherry blossom knife, right?

"That's, uh, somewhat..."

Not as good as I am, but the cherry blossoms have been mowed by my grandfather since I was young. He has been taught not only the art of escort to deal with thugs with knives, but also how to stab todomes after taking knives from Soytz. Because cherry blossoms are girls, even if you really stab them, you can afford them and establish self-defense, so don't worry, stab them in the todome is good, or something like that, I think Grandpa is fucking jizzy for you. Well, tell me how to stab you to a point where you won't die, and seriously, cherry blossoms, I don't know if it's a bit.

"Well, shall we go? We need to find another classmate first."

That's how we got geared up, and we left Fairy Square behind.

From there on in the area ahead came the appearance of a tiny, black people-shaped monster called 'Goma'. Rusty knives and axes, sticks like those taken from skeletons, animal bone spears, such crude but at first armed, dangerous demons. More importantly, he is horrified that he prefers human meat. In the unlikely event of their defeat, they will devour their bodies alive.

From its appearance, I somehow associate with Goblin, the epitome of RPG's miscellaneous fish monster, but never the one to be alarmed about.

"... brother, isn't this a little too much"

"No, wait, this isn't it, cherry blossoms, listen to me"

What heinous murderers have now appeared around me is a bloody tragic killing scene.

Through the passage out of Fairy Square, on a little big street, we were attacked by Goma the Five. Of course, this is how I succeeded in paying it all back... but as much as I pulled myself off a little, I did a fancy killing. The body is so fragmented and guzzled that I don't know if there were five of them now. Along the way, I thought about standing around focusing more on how I would not return blood than on how I would attack.

"What's the difference?"

"I tried my skills."

All of this tragedy was triggered as a result of trying out the effects of newly remembered skills. If I had fought without skill, I could have landed a neater finish with a knight's long sword and an unmistakable blow in due course.

"I see you changed your brother's movements visibly because of that. So, try it, how was it?

"It's a hell of a power. Skills, rather than swords, they say martial arts."

Here are six skills I think I learned after finishing my battle with Armored Bears:

Mastery skills

"One Piece (Thrust)": Enhanced Spike Attack. A sharp blow wears an enemy.

"Blink (Slash)": Increased Slash Attack. A sharp blow kills the enemy.

"Disease Drive (High Walk)": Enhanced Travel Speed. Running through like a disease.

Acquired Skills

"Rigidity (Vols Boost)": Strengthen muscles. The strength of an armored bear.

"Iron Skin (Iron Guard)": Strengthens Defense. Hard protection like an armored bear.

"Triple Flash (Tri-Slash)": Three consecutive attacks. Tear eight enemies apart, as the armored bear waved his nails.

Mastery skills are skills that I automatically remember as I grow and level up when it comes to game-style.

The acquired skill is to remember the skill based on the person you defeated. Perhaps this isn't about taking the opponent's abilities exactly as they are, it's only about the ability of the enemy as the source of the image, a thing that has been changed and adjusted to be handled by me, the human being.

Armored bears are powerful because they have their own muscles, and hard defenses have thick crusts of metal. Of course, the only reason you can tear your opponent apart with a single swing of your arm is because your sharp nails grow just a few fingers. If it had the effect of depriving the enemy of his abilities in a true sense, I would have looked just like an armored bear by now.

"The power is awesome, but I need a buildup, or a slight gap after I let it go. Besides, it just drains more health than waving a sword, so you have to think about where to use it."

"It's the same as magic. But it seems that these abilities of 'vocation' grow only proficiently for that matter if used, so it's not a good idea to spare them out?

"Oh, because if you're not accustomed to the properties of martial arts themselves, you're useless at times of need. In the meantime, I'm going to practice."

However, let's not let Goma opponents burst 'Tri-Flash'.

"Hey, brother, that sounds like fun."

"Careless, I suppose... because I wanted to be stronger. That's why I came to this other world and was given so much power in such a visible way. I guess my lack of mental training is a testament to my uncontrollable excitement."

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be sarcastic. I know how strong your brother wants to be, how strong he feels. But I was a little anxious that this powerful 'power' would change your brother..."

Damn, I'm no match for cherry blossoms. The more you let me worry about that, the more I had apparently risen. Really, I don't have enough mental training. Do you want to arrange it in Zazen later?

"I'll be fine. Be as strong as you can be, because at any time, no matter what happens, I want the cherry blossoms, the power to protect you and everyone else. I don't know how God made me a 'brave man' and I don't know how strong I will be...... but I won't forget the use of that power, never"

Strong power doesn't make sense just to seek. After wearing it, it's important to know how to use it. That kind of teaching has been slapped by my grandfather since I was a kid. That's what makes me feel so bleak in my bones.

I was going to know. Really, I meant to know. But now that I have the power to gently kill the creature of the bent human form with a single wave of sword, I feel like I have understood the meaning of the teaching once again.

Or, from now on, it will be something that understands more deeply or admonishes me.

"It's just hard to be protected. So I'll be strong with you. I'll be a little stronger, and I'll be there for you."

"Right... right. Thank you, cherry blossom. Because I'm counting on you."

"Yes, brother"

My brother's thoughts, having a really good sister warms my heart... but yeah, not if I'm warming my heart at such a catastrophic scene. There will be an atmosphere.

In the meantime, we went down the invisible aisle.

Along the way, there was a large domed hall full of depressions and trees indoors, like a botanical garden, where they encountered a herd of goma and red wild dogs. They're just swarmed, and this doesn't mean they're going to use any special abilities or magic, so cherry blossom cover shooting and 'disease (highwalk)' mobility alone could wipe them out without difficulty.

So far, the strength of the demon is no big deal. But it's not always time for big men like armored bears to show up again, so we make the most of the dungeon, vigilantly.

As such, it was around the time when the dungeon had been exceeded to the point of realizing that a safe resting place, Fairy Square, was positioned at a distance almost as good as equal intervals. When I arrived at some fairy squares.

"... Shh, Aemon?

There, there was a client.

"Oh, ho, it's true... Aemon and Sakura... it's not a dream, is it?"

Well seen, two girls.

"Committee Chairman and Natsukawa! I'm glad you're both safe."

"Ugh, uhh... heh yeah! Ajin-kun!

"Wow! Hey, hey, Natsukawa-san!?

All of a sudden, I'm hugged crying, and as far as I'm concerned, there's nothing better than wandering around. Natsukawa-san and I usually just hang out with each other, and we don't refuse to have a relationship where we meet again and we hug each other. But at times like this, even misunderstandings send a cold gaze from the cherry blossoms...... cherry blossoms looked serious and were suitable for the chairman of the committee.

"Ryoko, I'd like to say I'm glad you're safe... it doesn't look like there was anything"

"Yeah, cherry blossoms, and you, Yudo, are really helpful to be here right now. Thanks."

Apparently, worse things were happening than I thought. It doesn't seem like Natsukawa is crying because of her anxiety. As a result of being quite mentally cornered, should I see it?

I hold Natsukawa back gently to calm her down. At the same time, asking about the circumstances should be the chairman of the committee, who looks terribly tired and blue-white, but still retains his firm will.

"Chairman, what the hell happened?"

"... one of my people is dead again. That was a while ago."

The report, I didn't imagine... No, no, it's something I didn't dare to think about. To the power of a powerful 'vocation', a demon that is just swarmed and weak. So everyone else is fine.

Shallow, I was trying to guess myself.

And it has now been proven, here and now, that it was not hope, but just a convenient desire.

So I finally found out that my classmate had a victim.
