Chapter 2597: Battle for the Fallen City
"Hey!" At this moment a shout came from far away. Xu Huo looked up and saw a figure appear about a kilometer away, rushing toward him at high speed. A two-meter-long Metal Plate was circling above that person’s head and another at his side, not only blocking the raindrops but also keeping the demon head masks trying to wedge in from getting close.
The man on the opposite side had already called out a warning from so far away, so Xu Huo naturally stayed where he was and waited. However, that person walked less than a hundred meters from where he’d shouted before suddenly disappearing into thin air, instantly slipping out of his perception range. Fortunately, the other party quickly reappeared. This time he stopped a kilometer away and shouted loudly, "Put your Props away! The head masks you kill will multiply inside the forbidden zone. Do you know how many masks you’ve spawned in just the time you’ve been holding that umbrella?!"
"I didn’t see." Xu Huo lifted his foot, and in the next second he was standing right in front of the newcomer. "You’re a Player from the rescue team?"
The other man’s anger hadn’t subsided yet. He controlled the two Metal Plates to pincer in from both sides—the area that had just now been off-limits suddenly posed no obstruction at all. The two Plates stood on edge and flew toward Xu Huo, but their speed wasn’t fast; it looked more like a warning from him.
But Xu Huo didn’t hold back. He casually pressed one of them down toward the ground, sidestepped the other, and tapped his fingers quickly on its surface. Before the entire Plate could pass in front of him, this Metal Plate Prop turned into ash.
The Metal Plate on the ground, after a brief stalemate, rapidly cut into the earth, gliding for a hundred meters before reemerging behind that Player. Only this time, the pattern on the Plate, the decorative flowers and birds, all peeled off and turned into metal weapons, attacking Xu Huo from different directions.
This time the Prop’s speed was very fast, but halfway through they were all drawn upward into the sky by the Glass Beads thrown from Xu Huo’s hand. Gravity and remote control locked in a stalemate, and those metal flowers and birds couldn’t break free for the moment.
Seeing that the other man seemed about to speak, Xu Huo activated the Special item "Silence," and watched the other party clamp his jaw shut hard. Xu Huo made a "keep quiet" gesture.
Though the rescue team Player kept his mouth tightly closed, blood flowed from the corner of his lips. He’d clearly bitten his tongue just now. The bulging veins on his forehead showed he was furious.
Xu Huo turned the Time Ring, letting the space around them quiet down. The Passive Defense Instrument blocked three incoming Spatial Artifacts—the Time Ring couldn’t freeze a Player wearing Spatial Instruments, so at the same time those Props shot out, that Player suddenly teleported above Xu Huo. With a raise of his hand, the surrounding streets and buildings were directly pried up and slammed together at extreme speed!
The larger and heavier something is, the more it tends to give people a sense of sluggish movement, but right now the speed at which entire sections of ground were being flipped up was shockingly fast. They smashed together almost instantly, and in just a few seconds, the shattered building materials completely buried the spot where Xu Huo had been standing. There was no movement under the rubble and metal for the moment, yet the rescue team Player’s face darkened.
The rain hadn’t stopped.
The sound and obstruction caused by the raindrops could interfere with a Player’s judgment to some extent. In that instant, the rescue team Player wavered between two thoughts—Xu Huo being buried underground, or Xu Huo having already escaped—because he hadn’t accurately tracked the other side’s movements. But in the next second, he suddenly shot forward, rocketing out with the help of Props, his figure so fast it practically vanished midair.
Avoiding the Mental Portals that appeared successively at two landing points, the rescue team Player leapt onto a commercial building not far away, raised his left hand high to make a gesture, and then three Rank-A Players rushed over from different directions, stopping on buildings near him.
Xu Huo was standing on the ruins, holding the umbrella with one hand, looking at the people opposite him from afar.
Even for Players, they couldn’t rely on naked eyes to see the other side clearly from over two kilometers away. But Rank-A Players had plenty of auxiliary Props. The four rescue team members were likewise focused on Xu Huo’s movements.
The Heavy Rain washed the space between the two sides, and showed signs of getting heavier still. The raindrops were Spatial Ray Blades to begin with, and they formed an unbroken barrage of attacks. The four rescue team members had long since deployed their Defense Props, but the larger the area they covered, the higher the probability of demon head masks appearing.
Amid the clanging of Props and Instruments, the four Players maintained their Props and Instruments in active state as they accelerated toward Xu Huo.
Small Spatial Teleportation Devices were being interfered with by Rain From Above, so the four of them split high and low—two over the rooftops and two along the street—moving in from different levels.
Xu Huo watched their flight trajectories. Probably for coordination, the four didn’t move at the same speed. The two in front and the two behind kept at least a few hundred meters between them. This spacing both made it easier for teammates to play off each other and reduced the risk of the entire team getting wiped out at once by a powerful Prop.
Seeing their positions, Xu Huo raised his hand, and a sand table floated into the air. The pieces representing the four men moved rapidly on the sand table. After he stacked Counting Soldiers and Generals on top, he directly transferred all four of them together through a Mental Portal, then used the dreamy false teeth to issue a command to one of them:
"Hug your companions."
The two in front had already turned suddenly and were about to run into the two behind. Just as they were about to dodge, they were grabbed by their teammates. Two-on-two, they crashed straight into one another. The two caught in a hug couldn’t break free for the time being, but they had no problem releasing Props. Several Props exploded one after another at the spot where Xu Huo had been standing, churning gale and lightning together, instantly flattening the ruins.
And it didn’t stop there. A gigantic thunderball rapidly condensed in the sky, and several bolts of lightning, under the control of one Player, repeatedly tracked the rapidly moving Xu Huo. At the same time, the entire city turned into a boiling cauldron—the ground heaved up, buildings exploded like thunder and collided in midair, and then were swept away by the oncoming tornadoes. Lightning, raindrops, and flying building debris all became killing tools in this moment. In just a few breaths, the city area within sight had been completely destroyed.
If he relied solely on physical movement, dodging an attack on this level—comparable to a natural disaster—would of course be exhausting, but without a strong Spatial Barrier, it wasn’t difficult for Xu Huo to avoid it using the Spiritual World.
The chaos of debris flying everywhere blocked all lines of sight. Though he couldn’t see those four men, both the Spiritual World and spatial perception clearly registered their every move. An attack on this scale was meant to carpet-bomb everything first and talk later, so the four on the other side barely moved at all; they simply kept a certain distance while standing in midair.
It looked like they wouldn’t stop until they got what they wanted. Xu Huo paused, then opened over a dozen Mental Portals in succession, passing through this lightning storm zone.
On the other side, the four Players had been using Props to monitor the surroundings. Because the distance was too great, they couldn’t sense Xu Huo, but the markers on their Props could show his position in real time. The man who had been several kilometers away just the previous second suddenly appeared right in front of them in the blink of an eye—exactly at the position of the first one who had engaged Xu Huo. Before the four could even react, a black umbrella abruptly appeared in their field of vision!
