Chapter 2652: Gao Family Members
Waiting in the restaurant private room were six middle-aged men; among them was the boss of Beibao, who introduced her to the men at the table. Following the somewhat lengthy "shaking hands and meeting" ritual, the boss began to tell Beibao about the new job she was going to undertake, while asking her to thank these big shots who were providing her meal.
Beibao smiled sweetly, clinking glasses with each of them. Both sides had prepared hangover remedies and drank with determination. By the last round, Beibao’s boss had someone bring over a bottle of spiked wine, poured her several glasses, and then had her sent to a room.
The few bosses drank until their faces changed color and administered themselves several shots of the hangover remedy. One potbellied man said, "Your subordinate can really drink. Without using some means, we couldn’t get her drunk. Is that medicine sufficient?"
Beibao’s boss smiled, saying, "We had this routine previously. Even if she wasn’t drunk, she would have acted sensibly, but Beibao is my cash cow, so take it easy."
The potbellied man laughed, left the private room, went downstairs to the pre-booked room, and then fell asleep on the bed.
Beibao, who pretended to be "drunk," sat beside him trimming her nails and stuffed the clipped toenails into the potbellied man’s mouth, then slapped his face disgustedly.
Soon after, Beibao’s boss entered, walked to the bedside habitually to check the man’s respiratory state, took out the nails from his mouth, then undressed him and covered him with a quilt.
"You should consider my feelings each time I have to clean up the nails," the boss said, sitting across from Beibao and lighting a cigarette, "You disgust me or not?"
Beibao smirked, "Who makes you deal with these disgusting people?"
"I do wish to find something worthwhile for you, but do you dare?" the boss replied, "These people don’t have any formidable players around, otherwise your little tricks would have been exposed long ago. If a player uses force against you, I can’t help."
"At worst, I’ll escape into the game," Beibao asked him for a cigarette, crossing her legs and leaning back, unlike her bright and lively stage persona, possessing instead a somewhat languorous beauty.
The boss watched her for a long while, "Marry me, and you’ll no longer need to deal with these people’s ugly faces."
"What do you think you are? Some good thing?" Beibao said, "Among your male and female underlings, besides me, who isn’t sleeping with anyone?"
"I’ve been fair to you," the boss laughed, "One willingly deals, another willingly suffers. Zone 039 frequently breaks out into war, life is tough for everyone."
"I heard Yu Country has improved quite a bit recently." Beibao glanced out the window.
The boss’s face sank, "Your family is all dead; do you still know anyone in Yu Country?"
"There’s no family here either," Beibao turned back deliberately and blew smoke in his face, "If I marry Wang Yao, you’d be hooked up with officials."
"I can’t afford to mess with the Wang family," the boss said through gritted teeth, "But if Wang Yao really wanted to marry you, he wouldn’t drag on this long. If he gave the right price, I’d surely send you off grandly!"
"Do I need you to send me off if I want to leave?" Beibao taunted him, "You’re not even a player; when did you become one...?"
"Knock, knock, knock!" The sound of knocking startled them both, and before they could respond, the room door flew inward, and a player strode in, glanced at the man on the bed, then looked at Beibao, "There’s no such thing as a free lunch."
The boss stood up sharply to shield Beibao, instinctively whispering, "You hide in the game and come back in a few years!"
Beibao remained motionless, staring at the player ahead.
The player was also waiting, confirming she wasn’t leaving before smiling, "That’s the wise choice; if you left, not only he and his family would die, but your friends, classmates would die too, even your foster parents would be dug up and reduced to ashes."
"Isn’t there a misunderstanding here? Why not talk it through openly, the deal falls..." The boss was cut off by Beibao as she bypassed him and inquired to the person opposite, "Did Wang Yao send you?"
Under the boss’s uncertain gaze, the player said, "This is Mr. Yao’s last chance for you; otherwise, tomorrow everyone will know you exchange flesh for money, and those who’ve suffered will not spare you or your boss."
Beibao exhaled a long sigh, visibly impatient, turned back, and kicked the boss to the ground, saying, "I’m so sick of this; everyone uses this coward to threaten me. If you want to kill him, go ahead; at worst, I’ll come back in a few years to avenge him. Wang Yao is stronger than me, but his family has plenty of people to spare. I’ll surely snag one or two."
She continued, looking at the boss, "At that time, I’ll bury them next to your grave and have them slave for you."
The boss couldn’t feel happy; he said through clenched teeth, "I’m classmates with Minister Wang; I went to visit him earlier this year..."
The player revealed an obituary, "Hot off the press, Minister Wang passed away from a sudden illness half an hour ago."
The boss’s teeth began to tremble because a chilling flying blade was resting against his throat.
Beibao’s expression shifted intricately before ultimately stepping forward and pushing the blade away, crouching in front of the boss, "You’ve helped my foster parents, so working for you for several years repays that debt, and now I’ve saved your life. From now on, we’ll be strangers. Better find another cash cow."
"Where are you going? What’s Wang Yao planning for you?" the boss asked urgently.
"He wants me to bear his children, of course," Beibao stood up, saying sarcastically, "I really don’t see any point to prolonging that kind of malicious gene; I’ve heard his dad and brothers are quite nice..."
As she spoke, her voice reached outside the door; Wang Yao was actually at the hotel, only one floor below.
Inside the unlit room, the player guiding her nodded to the figure seated in darkness before consciously exiting and closing the door.
Beibao walked up to him, "It’s not like we haven’t met, why the act of depth?"
"I want to be a descendant of the Gao family," spoke "Wang Yao" from the shadows.
"Then be one; doesn’t your dad take you everywhere? Try kneeling before him asking, he might just agree," Beibao said, finding a seat, overflowing with irony.
"Such matters cannot be begged for; in his view, I don’t even hold a ticket." "Wang Yao" leaned slightly forward, "You’re different; you’re a true Gao family descendant."
"Given the situation, you have no better choice," he continued, "Your identity, my bloodline, our child will be a true Gao family descendent!"
Seeing Beibao unmoved, he signaled with a hand motion, causing the supposed boss downstairs to be thrown onto the floor, "Wang Yao" stepped on his head, extremely maliciously saying, "How long can you stand this? This person is already the only relation in this world to you; without him, you’d be as a drifting duckweed in chaotic times, just like your parents and foster parents, dying unnoticed anywhere."
Beibao’s fury rose to the extreme, yet she laughed aloud, wiping tears and mocking Wang Yao, "The Gao Family’s line ended over four hundred years ago, and you still believe you can birth a Gao Family child? Let me tell you, my biological and foster parents were simply adopted offspring of the Gao family descendants. Those adopting them were also previously adopted by Gao family members generations ago. You’re not chosen by Wang Ping as an heir because you’re unfit!"
"You probably still don’t know; your father, Wang Ping, has not the slightest relation to the Gao family. However, your older brothers’ mother was a Gao family adoptee. Yet, their maternal family chose your outsider father to inherit the Gao family. Likewise, your brothers might not be selected either; I heard your fourth brother resides abroad akin to an invisible man. His mother has no connection to the Gao family!"
"That’s how it is," having heard these provocatively incendiary words, "Wang Yao" appeared calm, "Seems you truly understand the Gao family."
Beibao quickly snapped back, "You’re not Wang Yao, who are you?!"
The room lights switched on, revealing a man she’d never seen sitting in a corner chair, the boss at his feet vanished, leaving the real Wang Yao collapsed on the floor.
Beibao attempted to flee; however, with tickets in hand, she found them unusable, incredulously looking at the man opposite, then in a second of firm resolve, she bit down on the poison hidden under her nails!
