Chapter 2623: Zhan’s War

The other party seemed somewhat surprised too, and nodded her head slightly towards her.

Xu Huo hadn’t expected her to leave District 001 so quickly, especially considering she was here for Temporal Evolution; after such a short time, there wouldn’t likely be any results.

Similarly, he gained nothing either.

This trip was originally taken with the hope of solving the issue of the Water Rubik’s Cube. Of course, before coming, he was prepared for no results, but revoking the Magic Cube was truly unexpected. Additionally, in the Night Tour Dungeon, he lost quite a few instruments, most of which were taken away by the head-root tendrils and disappeared, with no hope of recovery.

Nonetheless, it wasn’t entirely unprogressive. At least he learned where to look for new opportunities. Furthermore, his conversations with Jing Shi and interactions with Master Cong allowed him to see time from others’ perspectives, somewhat broadening his horizons.

Naturally, the most rewarding investment was Mr. Xi, an experienced and reputable Artifact Maker who could create top-tier props, someone he could collaborate with long-term.

If nothing unexpected happens, his goal for this trip should have been to use the Chaotic Space-Time ticket to resolve the Magic Cube issue. But now, unable to use Spatial Power, he couldn’t take risks, so he could only proceed to the next instance.

Xu Huo’s destination this time was a Rank-B Wormhole Point. Before choosing the tickets, he checked the corresponding district’s situation; it was a tense district. The District Government hadn’t fully controlled the entire district. After years of struggle, three sizeable nations remained in the district. These three nations occupied a significant portion of the district’s territory, and although they communicated through trade, friction often arose. Therefore, certain areas in this district experienced warfare almost annually.

However, it’s a multi-instance district, making the instance situation better than a district with only a single instance.

After the train rode for another two days, Xu Huo arrived at District 039, but the train didn’t stop at the station; instead, it transported him directly off the train. As soon as his foot touched the ground, a grenade flew toward him, accompanied by dense gunfire. The grenade exploded right by his feet, making the already rugged station floor even more battered.

The prop’s Defensive Barrier just blocked the explosion’s shockwave when few thin secant lines flew from the station entrance. A female player, veiled, with colored markings on her forehead, stood there with her hands clasped, another layer of secant lines swept in from both sides, slicing not only some floating instruments but also effortlessly taking a few lives.

The station was in battle.

A dozen players hid inside the station, engaging in fierce gunfire with twenty or so players using secant lines from the entrance and those ambushed outside. Various thermal weapons and instruments were abundant.

"Bang!" Xu Huo tilted his head to avoid another incoming small grenade. Just as he was about to leave, the female player using lines suddenly flashed towards him, her hands forming a triangular shape, two secant line walls appeared on either side of him, crossing and closing in quickly.

No matter whether she mistook him for someone else or did it intentionally, Xu Huo had no intention of getting involved in the district’s war. He avoided the female player’s attacks several times and exited the station through a Mental Portal.

But what he didn’t expect was, just after leaving the station, the Spatial Barrier stopped him a few hundred meters out, and then two players attacked him from both sides close-in, while two players provided remote support. Two visible attack props and two invisible forces struck from above and below.

Turning around, Xu Huo subtly raised his hand and pressed down, the Bone Ring released its gravity, pinning the approaching players and props in mid-air, while the automatic defensive instruments blocked the two underground props.

"Snap!" One of the props exploded on the ground, splashing purple-black liquid onto his ankle boots. This was presumably a special chemical potion, instantly corroding several holes in the shoe surface; it seemed to be poisonous.

The Defensive Barrier on his skin blocked the dripping poison, Xu Huo shook his foot and took out the prop "Rain From Above," overlaying the special item "Justice Aura." The previously clear station suddenly poured torrential rain, doubling the damage power of the raindrops with Spatial Power empowered by adding the special items, Spatial Ray Blade. These high-density attacks not only easily shot down floating props and weapons but also forced the ambushers outside the station to cease their acts.

The two players previously pressed by gravity promptly retreated due to the rain, and everyone inside and around the station seemed to calm down.

Players from inside and outside the station gradually emerged from hiding, focusing on Xu Huo without attempting to approach or converse but simply waiting silently.

Xu Huo ignored these people, moving away from the station.

The rain moved slowly with his departure, gradually sparing the already scarred station, as players inside and outside returned to their guarded state, refocusing on their opponents.

Outside the station, numbers were greater, with more weapons evident; including the female player using secant lines, at least a third were experienced fighters. This was shown as they tightly encircled those inside the station.

More than half of the players inside were injured; the rain gave them breathing space but didn’t completely remove the threat. The few players hiding behind cover were gesturing among themselves, all looking solemn.

Their ammunition and instruments were nearly exhausted. If it were just down to props and stamina, they wouldn’t last long.

A moment later, one Big Man, whose scalp was sliced off halfway, checked the time and said to his companions, "It’s about time, retreat in pairs!"

Players hiding elsewhere replied, "Hold off a bit longer!"

They didn’t mention why, but clearly, no one present wanted to leave. After exchanging glances, determination grew in their eyes—they were ready to die!

There was no movement inside, but plenty outside. First, a player came from afar to join them, reporting the Political Committee was under attack and demanding immediate return aid.

Signals were scrambled near the station; the Execution Team leader responsible for this group coldly rejected the aid request, "When multiple political figures are simultaneously kidnapped and attacked, the Political and Legal Committee should know someone is drawing them away. Our mission is to eliminate these anti-government alliance members, nothing else matters!"

With that, not paying attention to the aiding request, he gestured to two players at the entrance, tightening the atmosphere. As bloodshed seemed imminent again, the receding rain suddenly poured down again, as the man with the umbrella reappeared at the station entrance.
