Chapter 2555: The Right Time Beats Being Early

Arriving early isn’t as good as arriving on time. The station had just experienced a battle, and now the entire station was submerged in two meters of mud. Xu Huo didn’t expect to encounter such a situation upon exiting District 001. In a moment of desperation, he initially wanted to use a spatial barrier to save himself. However, upon leaving the super dungeon space, the two forces within him that restricted the Water Rubik’s Cube disappeared, and the Water Cube Barrier reappeared.

Of course, the Water Cube Barrier could block the mud, but it was merely stuck to his body, and he was still unable to avoid sinking into it. By this point, it was too late to switch to utilizing a psyche force materialization, and a moment of misjudgment resulted in his legs getting stuck in the mud.

This mud was immensely sticky. He initially planned to use a hovering item to escape, but the ordinary hovering items couldn’t pull him out. He had to use the materialized item to tug himself out.

Several other players were also trapped in the mud like him. Unluckily for them, they probably hadn’t participated in the previous fight, and an unguarded moment had them caught by this messy trick. As soon as they got their heads out, they began cursing, even threatening to drag out and dismember whoever was responsible for the mud.

"Folks, need a hand?" A player hanging upside down on the station ceiling grinned and showed the potion in his hand, "Exclusive formula, 100% dilution, guaranteed to make you forget the persistent stickiness instantly, bringing back the smoothness where you can pull out at a snap!"

"It’s you, isn’t it!" Another player threw a prop upward, trying to knock the person down, but he climbed the ceiling rapidly like a gecko, easily evading the attack.

Inside the station, players were being very cautious with their actions, avoiding the use of any large destructive props. Still, the sheer number of players overwhelmed the individual, who was quickly running out of options. Fleeing, he exclaimed, "I’m just selling some potions, is it worth killing someone over it? Are you buying or not? Or do you plan to slug it out until the end, getting on with all the mud stuck to you?"

This riled everyone up even further. They not only used their props but also their characteristics. In two runs, the player hanging on the ceiling was sent headfirst into the mud due to characteristic confinement. If he hadn’t had a defense prop, his legs might very well have been chopped off.

Xu Huo wasn’t trapped too deeply, and managed to pull himself out. He stood on a materialized item, squatting down to look at the upside-down person below, and asked, "Need a hand?"

Those two legs flailed vehemently, clearly indicating refusal.

Nevertheless, Xu Huo helped anyway, using the materialized item to pull at his legs, yanking the person out, in a manner akin to tug-of-war.

The player had already poured potion to dissolve the surrounding mud, and, as he promised, the effect was impressive. At least the mud around him had lost its stickiness, serving no other purpose but to smear filth over him.

The person was pulled out, although the materialization wrapped around him too, especially at the life-threatening neck area.

Suspended upside-down in mid-air, the man raised his hands, showing no resistance, "Hey, it’s all a misunderstanding, buddy. Let me down first, if you’re interested, I can give you these potions for free!"

"I’m not interested in potions," Xu Huo said, looking at him. "But I’m in a bad mood right now."

"I understand!" The man responded quickly, "Everyone has their off days. How about I offer you a couple of advanced items to brighten your mood?"

Xu Huo chuckled, releasing him, "With such timidity, you still dare to extort in public?"

The man threw a prop onto the mud and stood on it, wiping off the sludge from his face, "It’s not extortion, just trying to get people to pay for my services. Besides, let me clarify, I didn’t cause this mud."

"If not you, then who?" Another player emerged, pressing a dagger against the man’s nape, speaking coldly, "If you can point out someone else, I’ll let you go."

"It’s really not me!" The man shouted excitedly, "If it were me, would I come out and do business with you all? You should ask those two who were fighting earlier..."

He cut himself off mid-sentence before dodging around a prop as his opponent was distracted, springing up to the ceiling, "If you’re going to blame someone, blame the right person. What’s the point of getting angry at the wrong one?"

The logic was sound, but this guy had a face that begged for a punch, driving people to vent anger on him instantly!

Thankfully, a train arrived at that moment. One by one, the players boarded, and several people left, thus allowing the man to dodge a catastrophe.

Only three players were left in the station now — one on the ceiling, two leaning against the wall.

Seeing them staring at him, the man on the ceiling flashed a fawning smile, "Crossing paths is fate, don’t you agree? Why waste this fateful encounter?"

"What did you do for work before?" Xu Huo inquired, curious why someone so unassuming consistently invited misdirected ire?

"Well, community staff..." the man replied sheepishly.

"Community staff, more like a mediator, I’d say. Your demeanor gives it away," remarked the remaining female player icily, "My ex-husband drank, gambled, went to prostitutes, and was violent; I endured three years of beatings, hospitalized over a dozen times before divorcing him. Couldn’t even get custody of my child. Five years after my divorce, when I plan to remarry, he’s left paralyzed from a car accident, wants me to care for him," she continued, "He even got on TV, having golden mediators urging me to sacrifice for the child’s sake."

"Calling nonstop, visiting in person, bearing gifts and smiles as if it were their family paralyzed. They even scared off my boyfriend, leaving me alone again, only to bring that bastard to my doorstep bowing in apology."

"Lady, I don’t handle such disgraceful practices," the man quickly said.

Ignoring him, the woman went on, "Once I became a player, I immediately pushed that mediator into marrying my ex-husband, even healing his legs. If she claimed he’s only violent under the influence and inherently good, then he’s perfect for her."

"Every time I enter an instance or come back, I beat that bastard. Once I leave, he beats her."

"I vent my rage without killing anyone unlawfully, the bastard channels his anger without threatening society, and the mediator ensures every abusive husband has a faithful wife. We’re all decent citizens, fully satisfied."

"Hehehehe..."

Having said her piece, the woman chuckled.

"Maybe the mediator didn’t intend for you to reconcile," the man speculated, seeing her chilling stare, he quickly swallowed his words and amended, "Living without ethics isn’t right, I’d resign for sure!"

"What vocation did you choose?" Xu Huo posed a soul-searching inquiry.
