Chapter 2518: Metal Forest
The Steel Forest, as the name suggests, is a forest forged from metal.
As far as the eye can see, everything—trees, grass, and the ground—is made of metal. Because of its dark tone, it appears as a hazy gray from a distance. However, upon descending, you can clearly see that this forest is composed of metal, with a murderous metallic sheen gleaming everywhere.
"What is this place?" Bubble Bean cautiously avoided the sharp branches protruding from a nearby tree. "Wasn’t that someone from Valen’s side earlier? What exactly are they trying to do? Kill us to silence us?"
Xu Huo looked grim, "I’m afraid we’ve been thrown into the relic area."
"What?" Bubble Bean raised his voice, "Didn’t they say the entrance was blocked by Outer Zone players... Turns out that old bastard didn’t speak a word of truth!"
The entrance was indeed blocked, so no one could get out, but it doesn’t mean no one could get in.
After cursing Valen’s entire family, Bubble Bean said, "If I knew, I wouldn’t have gambled on clearing the level this time. Staying in Cat Fruit Town would have been just fine!"
Who could have anticipated this? Xu Huo had speculated beforehand that this was related to relics for Super Players, but unexpectedly it turned into a district defense battle right off the bat. Valen’s group was prepared to go all out, willing to pay any price, so naturally, they wouldn’t concern themselves with ethical boundaries at such a critical moment.
Just as the three stood in place for less than half a minute, noises of metal clashing and rubbing could be heard from afar. As the sound drew nearer, the ground began to tremble. Soon, a ten-meter-tall Metal Mutant Beast broke through the surrounding metal trees and charged at them at high speed. With oddly discordant roars, they could even see the completely metal tongue and teeth in its open mouth!
Although it had the appearance of a Mutant Beast, this thing was essentially a mechanical beast. It was covered in thick metal armor, so even tree branches and leaves as sharp as blades wouldn’t damage it. The trees and vegetation it sent flying along the way became deadly weapons scattered in the air!
A large number of metal fragments sprayed out, attacking Xu Huo and the others even before the Metal Mutant Beast arrived. The sheer quantity meant that their Defense Prop’s barrier was often pierced before it could fully form, let alone the dense metal forest around them—all potential death traps!
Xu Huo unleashed his Spiritual World, guiding the Girl in the Painting and Bubble Bean through the Mental Portal to change locations. However, limited by the density of the metal, they couldn’t move far in one go and could only move close to the ground, so they never managed to shake off the Metal Mutant Beast behind them.
During this time, Bubble Bean used several restricting props, most of which failed to buy time against the metal beast’s sheer force. However, one sticky prop proved quite useful; when thrown, it splattered like glue on the surrounding trees, creating a small net between them.
The metal beast, lacking judgement, ran headlong into it and became stuck to the trees, which did not break easily. Seeing it struggling and roaring behind, an uneasy Bubble Bean threw a few explosive props out.
With "bang bang" explosions, some smaller trees and plants were blasted into the air. A few fragments landed on the metal beast but had little effect, barely leaving unclear scratches on its armor.
Though this metal beast was trapped, the noise it made attracted three more of the same creatures. They bulldozed their way over, bringing massive metal trees crashing down on Xu Huo and the others!
In this kind of metal forest, Xu Huo and his companions had to be cautious even when moving, let alone battling similar metal beasts—whether they won or lost, they would suffer.
So, after finding that the path ahead and behind was blocked, Xu Huo tossed Bubble Bean and the Girl in the Painting to draw attention while he moved behind one of the metal beasts and struck its back with one hand!
In an instant, both the metal beast and the tree trunk it was holding turned to dust!
The gray-black residue was swept away by the wind, passing over the crouching Xu Huo, who stood up slightly and brushed against a nearby metal tree.
This tree, distinctly different in color from the others, did not disintegrate under the influence of the "Life Core," remaining intact like the forest floor, evidently made of similar metal.
"Don’t just stand there, come help!" Bubble Bean shouted from a distance.
His luck was indeed unfavorable; the metal beast that had been stuck earlier broke free, and aside from the one Xu Huo had obliterated, three others charged solely at him. Wherever he dodged, the metal beasts flattened the area. Amidst continuous attacks, his defense and offense seemed weak, barely managing to cut off one metal beast’s head, but the remaining two combined forces to push the massive carcass towards him!
Bubble Bean didn’t dare confront the metal mass; he might suffer internal injuries even through a Defensive Barrier. He intended to climb a tree, but halfway up, he realized that the trees randomly discharged mechanisms too—the leaves and branches rained down like hidden weapons. Though he bravely pressed on, he didn’t last long before both he and his defense fell together.
Below, two metal beasts awaited with jaws wide open!
At such close range, bombs were ineffectual. Xu Huo sliced off one metal beast’s head with a Black Blade and used "Everything Wants to Slice" to halt the other. Bubble Bean jumped down to deal a final blow to its head, and the last metal beast finally fell.
Gazing at the massive creatures around him with lingering fear, Bubble Bean couldn’t help but exclaim, "What kind of monsters are these, for normal props to be useless!"
Xu Huo placed a detector on the metal beast, "The test result shows it’s an A-Level super-hard metal, suitable for constructing high-risk-resistant residential and commercial buildings."
"Metal of this grade is only used for building residential properties?" Bubble Bean felt this was entirely different from the A-Level metal he’d encountered before, "If this is just for buildings, what materials would they use for defensive works and district government structures?"
