Kaleidoscope of Death

Chapter 13 - Another World

Anyway, as long as Ruan Baijie had a wince, there was nothing Lin Qiushi could do with her.

They were talking, but Ke and Xiong Lacquer came out of the kitchen with food. So Ruan Baijie temporarily stopped this topic and smilingly talked to Lin Qiushi about something else.

Dinner was simple, and everyone's minds were not on it, discussing the possible location of the door as they ate.

"I think the carpenter and his family need to be searched as well." Bearpaint said, "This man doesn't look like an ordinary villager."

"Hmm." Since her worst fears were resolved, Curtis' mood looked much better, and she actively suggested various possible locations for the door.

While everyone was talking, Cheng Wen was sitting silently beside him. Compared to when he first woke up, his eyes were finally less dull, but he still looked a bit gloomy. He didn't blame Lin Qiushi for knocking him out, or more accurately, he hadn't said a word to Lin Qiushi since he woke up.

Only when he saw that everyone was almost done discussing did Cheng Wen slowly speak, "Lin Qiushi."

Lin Qiushi looked at him warily, "What's wrong?"

Cheng Wen said, "Is Wang Qiye a monster?"

Lin Qiushi shook his head, indicating that he didn't know either, but since Cheng Wen could ask this question, it meant that he was in a very bad state of mind.

Cheng Wen said, "She must be a monster, all seen." He tilted his head and questioned everyone very nervously, "You all saw it, right? Her shadow, and what she spits out..."

Everyone didn't say anything, in fact Lin Qiushi felt that Wang Xiaoyi was most likely still human, otherwise he wouldn't have been killed so easily by Cheng Wen with a shovel. But now that the person was dead, it didn't make much sense to say these things again.

However, Cheng Wen seemed to be dwelling on this matter, repeatedly asking if Wang Xiaoyi was a monster. Finally, he got tired of asking Ke and came to say, "Is it meaningful to say this again if you have killed all the monsters? Or are you afraid you might have killed the wrong person?"

As soon as this was said, Cheng Wen's face changed drastically, hurriedly stood up from his chair and turned around.

Ko also continued to mock, "What, you were so decisive when you killed, but now you're afraid? Dare to do it, coward."

"Killing teammates here is a serious matter?" This was a question Lin Qiushi had wanted to ask before.

"The world in the gate is a world where everything has a spirit, and to put it bluntly, anything that dies can turn into a ghost." Xiong Lacquer looked complicated, "So don't kill anything indiscriminately."

Lin Qiushi ohmed and thought again, "But isn't there a loophole? You say that at least one person here has to get out alive, and if that person kills everyone, wouldn't that fulfill the condition of only one person?"

"Good thinking." Curt said, "where everyone will be waiting for him to kill, he'll definitely die here if he can't wipe everyone out in one wave and then run away as fast as he can."

"Killed in the morning, maybe those things will come for him at noon." Bearpaint said, "I've seen them." He indicated with his eyes again where Cheng Wen had left and shook his head.

So that was it, Lin Qiushi showed his face.

In the morning, they went to move the coffin, and in the afternoon, everyone looked around for the door, but they couldn't find any clues about the door until it was dark. Lin Qiushi and Ruan Baijie went to the carpenter's place, and on the way, Ruan Baijie told Lin Qiushi that they would leave at night to keep Lin Qiushi in shape.

At the thought of finally being able to leave here, Lin Qiushi's steps became industrious and he reached out to touch his earlobe, where there was an extra red gemstone earring that looked like glass. I don't know where Ruan Baijie learned his craft, he didn't even feel anything when he wore it, plus all his thoughts were on the door, so that he only took the time to ask Ruan Baijie what this earring was at this moment.

"A small gift from me to you." Ruan Bai Jie, "The marriage within the door is a thread, cherish this fate..."

Lin Qiushi didn't bother with this detail once he heard that, after all, once they went out, they might never see each other again. He quietly looked at Ruan Baijie's beautiful side face and sighed regretfully in his heart. If only he hadn't met her in such a special place....

Four o'clock in the afternoon, nightfall.

It hadn't snowed today, but the weather was gloomy and the wind hung on your face stinging your skin, and by the time Lin Qiushi and Ruan Baijie returned, Xiong Lac and Xiao Ke had already arrived home.

"Did you find it?" Everyone asked each other.

After getting the answer whether or not, Xiong Lac sighs and says that there is no hurry in this matter, it looks like we will have to spend the night here again tonight, so let's rest early and continue looking tomorrow.

Ruan Baijie and Lin Qiushi agreed. So they went back to their rooms early, but instead of going to bed as usual, they sat on the edge of the bed and waited for darkness.

Ruan Baijie leaned against the oil lamp and slowly ate melon seeds to pass the time.

Lin Qiushi had thought that they would be able to leave by the evening, but there was still an accident. Cheng Wen, who lived next door to them, let out a miserable scream, which sounded so piercing that it sounded as if it was about to break his throat.

"Help- Help-" Cheng Wen knocked on the wall with a thud, "Help me, someone-"

"Ooooh, ooooh." Along with his screams, there was also the sound of a woman crying, a sound Lin Qiushi had heard many times before, and it belonged to Wang Qiaoyi.

Before, it was Wang Qiaoyi calling for help, but this time, the person calling for help turned out to be Cheng Wen.

But within a moment, Cheng Wen's screams became weak, and what followed was a kind of puffing sound of a sharp instrument chopping at meat, one after another, as if the person holding the sharp instrument would never get tired.

Cheng Wen's cries for help aborted, but Wang Xiaoyi was still crying.

Ruan Baijie's expression, however, gradually became more serious as she looked at Lin Qiushi and asked him, "Are you afraid?"

Lin Qiushi said, "Fine."

Ruan Baijie said, "Things might have changed, we can't wait any longer, let's go."

Lin Qiushi nodded and followed Ruan Baijie out of the house.

On his way out, he saw a pool of blood soaking out of the floor of the house on the right, it seemed that Cheng Wen was in mortal danger. Although dying wasn't something he had seen, Lin Qiushi was also aware that there were things he was powerless to do. He was just an ordinary man, and he was powerless against these ghosts and monsters.

Ruan Baijie held Lin Qiushi's hand in a natural movement and they headed straight downstairs.

Lin Qiushi was about to ask Ruan Baijie where he was going, so he was led by Ruan Baijie to the courtyard downstairs.

There was nothing in the courtyard but an empty well, and Ruan Baijie led Lin Qiushi to the well and leaned over to look inside.

When Lin Qiushi saw this, he followed Ruan Baijie's example and looked a few times towards the well mouth.

The well mouth was pitch black, nothing could be seen, and there was a foul smell of mud emitting from it.

Lin Qiushi was looking carefully, but he suddenly felt a violent push on his back, he stumbled and tried to stand, but the person behind him pressed him heavily.

Ruan Baijie said, "Go." The words trailed off and a strong force hit him, Lin Qiushi was directly propelled into the well by her.

The suddenness of the situation caught Lin Qiushi completely off guard. His entire body fell into the well, and he reached out haphazardly to try to grab something next to him. But the slippery walls of the well didn't give him a chance to struggle at all, and just when Lin Qiushi thought he was going to fall, he felt himself landing on a piece of something soft.

The thing was soft, like a satin mat, and Lin Qiushi was not hurt at all when he fell on it. He stood up from the mat with great difficulty, and by the faint moonlight coming into the well, he could see clearly what was underneath him.

Where was that mat, it was clearly a large pile of densely tied black hair that was writhing. Lin Qiushi's face changed slightly, he didn't expect such a scene in the well. Luckily, he quickly calmed down and after looking around, he found an inconspicuous path under the well.

Lin Qiushi originally wanted to call out to Ruan Baijie a few times, but he was a little worried that his call would not disturb these strange hairs beneath his feet, so he finally gave up and slowly moved his feet towards the pathway.

The path was narrow, but it could be seen that it was specially built, and Lin Qiushi had to keep his head down as he walked in it, those black hairs stretching all the way forward like a well-paved carpet.

I don't know how long he walked, but Lin Qiushi finally reached the end of the path. He also discovered the source of the hair, it looked like it was growing out of the wall, and at the end of the wall, there was a tall black iron door. Above the iron door, there was a striking bronze lock hanging from it.

This door Lin Qiushi had seen in his own hallway before, the only difference was that the door there, had no lock. He pulled out the key he kept in his pocket and slowly walked up to it.

Bronze key, bronze lock, Lin Qiushi inserted the key into the lock hole, twisted it gently, and with a click, the lock opened.

While he was pulling the lock open, he saw something fall from the back of the lock onto the ground.

It was a white slip of paper, Lin Qiushi bent down to pick it up and saw four words written on the slip of paper: fir summer bird.

Lin Qiushi didn't understand the meaning of these four words, but he didn't want to waste time here, so he casually pocketed the note, then grasped the handle of the bronze door and pulled it heavily.

The door opened, and there was a soft light outside, and although no other scenery could be seen, it was extraordinarily reassuring.

Lin Qiushi turned his head to look behind him, as if those black hairs had been stimulated by the light, they became a bit restless, Lin Qiushi didn't dare to stop, and stepped forward into the halo of light.

"Ruan Baijie must come out alive ah..." this was Lin Qiushi's last thought as he left.

The author has something to say: when Lin Qiushi sees Ruan Baijie again, he might not cherish this fate so much hahahahahaha.

Lin Qiushi: You're fucking pulling out more than me?

Nguyen Baijie: Boing Boing.
