Chapter 80: Going Home
In the hospital hallway.
When Vivian Lowell returned, Caleb Quinn was just coming out to get the takeout.
"Thank you."
Caleb Quinn politely thanked the delivery driver. Just as he turned to go back inside, he saw Vivian Lowell.
"Mr. Lowell."
Caleb Quinn greeted her, hefting the heavy takeout containers in his hand, and asked, "Would you like to come in and eat with us? Mr. Tanya just woke up. She said it hurts and she can’t sleep."
"Now that the food’s here, hopefully it can distract her for a bit!"
Vivian Lowell had no appetite, but considering Eleanor Rhodes’s condition, she wanted to stay and keep her company. She could only rest easy once Eleanor was asleep.
"Okay."
Vivian Lowell agreed and went into the room with Caleb Quinn.
It was half an hour later by the time they finished the boiled chicken.
Meanwhile, the public debate online continued to escalate.
Many people began to attack Vivian Lowell and Eleanor Rhodes’s actions, saying they were just creating a controversy for money.
Others argued that Vivian Lowell was previously the chief designer for the Lowell Group and had now started her own company, so she wasn’t short on money.
Both sides were at each other’s throats.
Vivian Lowell logged into their pet hospital’s X account and found many private messages. There were messages of support, verbal abuse, and personal attacks.
She didn’t look at them closely.
Things like that couldn’t affect her mood.
On the hospital bed.
After eating, Eleanor Rhodes’s shoulder hurt a lot. She whimpered and whined, refusing to sleep. Caleb Quinn had no choice but to stay by her side and sing to her.
Seeing how thoughtful this junior, Caleb Quinn, was, Vivian Lowell said, "Tanya. It’s getting a little late, I’m going to head back first. With Caleb Quinn staying here to take care of you, I feel quite relieved."
"Okay, okay, Vivian, you go ahead! Please take good care of things at the pet hospital!"
After Eleanor Rhodes spoke, she grimaced. The intermittent pain from her wound was truly agonizing.
Vivian Lowell helped Eleanor Rhodes pull up her blanket and said, "At the pet hospital, two of the vets were also injured. I’m planning to close for a couple of days to sort things out."
"But I’ll still go to the hospital every day to feed the cats and change their litter, so don’t you worry."
Hearing this, Eleanor Rhodes felt it made sense and said, "That’s a good idea. That woman is so crazy, it’s better to close up for a couple of days and lay low."
"Vivian, you should go home and get some rest."
"Okay." Vivian Lowell agreed. She glanced at Caleb Quinn, who nodded at her, as if to say he would take good care of Eleanor Rhodes.
Vivian Lowell felt a bit more at ease and left with Julian Faulkner.
It was already eleven o’clock.
When Vivian Lowell got in the car, she leaned back against the seat, feeling utterly exhausted.
"Rest for a while."
Julian Faulkner thoughtfully helped Vivian Lowell recline her seat a bit, then turned on the car’s air freshener. It released a very light and soothing scent.
As Vivian Lowell smelled it, she felt much more comfortable.
"I..."
Vivian Lowell had wanted to say she didn’t want to rest.
But when she turned her head, she saw the very serious look in Julian Faulkner’s eyes as he looked at her, so she had no choice but to close her eyes and pretend to rest.
’How should I handle the situation with the pet hospital?’
’That crazy woman is at the police station now. Since she intentionally harmed someone, I’m definitely going to sue her.’
’Whatever her motive was, what she did was illegal!’
’The public outcry has to be calmed down.’
’I also have to find the person who pulled the oxygen tube from the raincoat man’s son and find out exactly why they did it.’
’I can’t let someone cause more trouble for me under the guise of "helping" again.’
Thinking it all over, Vivian Lowell’s mind was a mess.
Just as she was about to turn over, to a position where Julian Faulkner couldn’t see her, and take out her phone to contact Vance Wyatt again, she heard Julian Faulkner sigh beside her.
He seemed a bit helpless.
For a moment, Vivian Lowell grew tense, her body stiffening. She was afraid Julian Faulkner had realized she wasn’t actually sleeping at all.
"Your eyelashes keep fluttering. How is that sleeping? Vance Wyatt will help you investigate this matter, and so will I. First thing tomorrow morning, we’ll go to the police station."
’Huh?’
Vivian Lowell froze, a little surprised.
She turned to face Julian Faulkner.
Julian Faulkner was looking straight ahead, still focused on driving. In the dim light of the car, his profile was still so distinct.
He had a high nose bridge and thin lips. No matter how she looked at him, Vivian Lowell thought he was truly handsome.
’He just doesn’t smile enough.’
’If he were to smile, he could probably captivate the world, just like Jezebel.’
Vivian Lowell kept imagining what Julian Faulkner would look like when he smiled.
As she was lost in thought, Julian Faulkner suddenly turned his head to glance at Vivian Lowell and asked, "Staring at me so intently. Did you hear what I said?"
!?
Vivian Lowell hadn’t expected Julian Faulkner to suddenly turn his head.
Especially his tone right now—it was far too intimate. It was so provocative it made her heart flutter, which was almost uncomfortable.
"I heard you."
Vivian Lowell looked down, too embarrassed to look at Julian Faulkner’s face again, and repeated, "You said that the couple’s actions this time were clearly planned."
"Acting impulsively wouldn’t have achieved this kind of result."
After repeating it, an idea flashed through Vivian Lowell’s mind.
’That’s right!’
’It was planned!’
’The place the raincoat man chose to jump from was, of all places, the Grand West Aethelburg Hotel. He obviously found out ahead of time that there would be a banquet at the hotel tonight.’
’Many entrepreneurs from Aethelburg and even from across the country would be at the banquet. He might have even known that Julian Faulkner and I would be attending!’
’He jumped to attract attention, to make the people in the "upper-class" circles notice his situation.’
’Meanwhile, his wife went to attack Eleanor Rhodes!’
’To ensure their plan succeeded, his wife even brought a vicious dog to hurt people!’
’The whole thing was meticulously and thoroughly planned!’
After thinking it through, Vivian Lowell couldn’t help but suck in a sharp breath.
’What’s their goal?’
’For Eleanor Rhodes and me to pay them compensation?’
If that was the case, Vivian Lowell wasn’t afraid.
A problem that could be solved with money wasn’t a problem at all.
Now that she had reported the Lowell Family, the businesses that had previously worked with them would definitely be looking for other design firms.
Since Vivian Lowell had worked with them before, she was naturally the best choice.
With these resources, Vivian Lowell didn’t have to worry about not having money.
But what if what the raincoat man and his wife wanted wasn’t this?
Then things would be difficult.
After thinking it over, Vivian Lowell said to Julian Faulkner, "Well then, President Faulkner, should we go to the police station first thing tomorrow to meet the raincoat man’s wife... the evil dog woman?"
"..."
Vivian Lowell thought her description was very fitting.
It was just that Julian Faulkner’s tense face seemed to have gotten even more rigid.
"Ahem."
Vivian Lowell was suddenly a little embarrassed and said in a small voice, "Well, I don’t know the woman’s name, so I’m just calling her that for now!"
"Besides, she did bring a vicious dog to our pet hospital. Describing her as the evil dog woman doesn’t seem wrong. It’s quite fitting!"
"Dogs can be cute, but it depends on the dog! Her dog obviously wasn’t cute, and she’s definitely a bad person!"
Julian Faulkner sighed softly.
After a good while, he finally said, "I’m not saying your description is bad. I’m just a little surprised by your naming method."
Vivian Lowell paused, then remembered something.
Last time, when they were catching cats in the storage shed outside the Faulkner Family’s house, Vivian Lowell had caught a scrawny orange and white cat that had stepped on a board and charged right at her, throwing itself into her net.
After catching it, Vivian Lowell had immediately named it "Board-Stepper"!
She hadn’t actually noticed at the time.
Julian Faulkner’s expression had faltered for a moment. Then, for some reason, a faint look of worry had appeared on his face.
’Is he worried that if we get cats and dogs in the future, I’ll give them names like that?’
’Hmph, he underestimates me!’
’I definitely wouldn’t name my "children" like this!’
"My naming method is a unique gift!" Vivian Lowell answered proudly. After she spoke, she yawned.
Perhaps it was because she’d been talking with Julian Faulkner for a while.
Now, Vivian Lowell felt as if she had relaxed quite a bit, and she was starting to feel sleepy.
Seeing her like this, Julian Faulkner dimmed the car’s interior lights again and softened his voice, saying gently, "Get some rest."
"I’ll call a lawyer in the morning, and we’ll go to the police station together."
"Mmm..." Vivian Lowell agreed with her eyes closed. Right before drifting off, she mumbled, "Julian Faulkner, remember to wake me up when we get home this time. We’re not sleeping in the car, you hear?"
"Mm."
Julian Faulkner agreed, and Vivian Lowell slowly drifted off to sleep.
