Chapter 93: His Goodness
Vivian Lowell glanced at Julian Faulkner out of the corner of her eye.
He was on his phone.
’Was that a WhatsApp chat on his screen?’
Vivian didn’t dare stare too intently to see who Julian was chatting with, but she could see the expression on his face was very relaxed.
’Looks like he’s fine with whatever they’re talking about.’
"Still on WhatsApp this late?"
Vivian didn’t know what came over her. On a whim, she blurted out the tart question, looking straight at Julian.
"..."
The moment the words left her mouth, Vivian regretted it.
’What is wrong with me?’
’I asked that question without thinking at all!’
’Will Julian misunderstand?’
’Or what if he really was chatting with some girl, and I just made things awkward by calling it out?’
A million thoughts raced through Vivian’s mind. Just as she was tempted to dive under the covers and play dead, Julian handed her his phone.
?
Vivian was a little confused.
’What does Julian mean by this?’
’Handing his phone to me?’
’Is he tired of living or something?’
’He’s actually letting me look at his phone!’
"Um... I’m not going to look." Considering their relationship, Vivian decided it was better not to, to avoid... things getting even more awkward.
Julian didn’t mind.
After putting his phone back on the nightstand on his side, he said, "It’s a message from Vance Wyatt. He’s already taken Ethan Grant to the police station."
"The police found something like a date-rape drug on Ethan Grant, as well as some aphrodisiacs."
"That stuff is all illegal. He’ll be held in administrative detention and fined. He confessed during the police interrogation. He carries that stuff on him all the time."
"He uses it often when he goes to bars. When he went out with you today, he initially just wanted to discuss Mason Grant’s situation with you."
"Then, for some reason, he gave one to the young waitress at the steakhouse and told her to put it in your water for you to drink."
"But you didn’t drink it, so he had no other choice but to wait for you downstairs from the restaurant and try to make his move there."
"..."
Vivian was silent for a moment.
’That Ethan Grant is a real piece of work. Keeping that stuff on him all the time... isn’t he just following the playbook of that one foreign celebrity who’s now doing time?’
"He has such terrible character."
Vivian felt sick to her stomach. "The way I see it, we should find all the girls he’s victimized and have them sue him together!"
"Our country might not use punishments like castration, but he deserves to be locked up for a few years! It would keep him from ruining more lives!"
Julian nodded.
He agreed completely. "I’ve already told Vance what you just said. He’ll start preparing the materials, so don’t worry. As for Ethan Grant..."
"He’ll be detained for seven days. After that, it’ll be time for him to be prosecuted."
Ethan Grant wouldn’t even have a chance to return to the Grant Family before he faced prison time.
Meanwhile, Julian had locked down the news, deleted the surveillance footage, and even had someone go find that young waitress.
He told her that if she leaked that this incident was related to Vivian Lowell, she would be sued and sent to prison right along with him.
The young waitress was terrified.
So she promised she wouldn’t say a word about it, no matter what.
Julian had taken care of everything.
This was also why.
When Vivian had glanced over and seen Julian out of the corner of her eye just now, she’d noticed he was in a good mood. Even his movements as he replied to Vance Wyatt’s message were light and quick.
It was all because he had solved her problem for her.
Vivian was very touched.
’He did all this, even with his injured hand!’
"Thank you," Vivian couldn’t help but scoot closer to Julian. She whispered, "To thank you, how about I treat you to dinner?"
"Do you want to eat in or eat out? What about that French restaurant you took me to? Do you like it there? When are you free? Let’s go!"
Hearing this, Julian smiled lightly. "I’m free tomorrow night. Don’t you have to pick up Eleanor Rhodes from the hospital in the afternoon?"
"Perfect. We can go together. After we get her from the hospital, we can all go out to eat. What do you think?"
"Okay."
Vivian agreed, leaned back against her pillow, and closed her eyes to get some sleep.
Before she fell asleep, Vivian’s thoughts drifted to other matters.
’Now that Ethan Grant is out of the picture, no one in the Grant Family is left to compete with Mason Grant. But will Mason really try to save the Lowell Family and his marriage to Shelly Lowell?’
Vivian wasn’t so sure.
And as for the Lowell Family, they were currently looking for a designer to complete the last two drawings for the "Swan" collection. The deadline for the designs was...
Vivian remembered it was just five days away.
Five days from now would be March 15th, World Consumer Rights Day. And on that day...
Vivian’s lips curved into a smile. ’What a perfect day that will be,’ she thought.
The Lowell Family’s designs would definitely end up online. When they did, it would be time for her identity as "Nox" to come into play.
Everything was falling into place, clear and smooth. Vivian’s mood lifted as well.
Vivian had thought she would relax and fall asleep quickly, but after closing her eyes, she lay awake for a long time.
"..."
The feeling of suddenly having another person next to her was just too strange.
Vivian really wanted to turn over.
But she was afraid that if she moved too much, she would wake Julian.
But if she didn’t turn over, she felt like she’d been lying in this position for too long. Her body was getting stiff, and it was really uncomfortable.
"..."
Vivian didn’t even dare to breathe too loudly. Then, she heard the very steady, soft sound of Julian’s breathing beside her.
Very soft.
’Huh?’
’Is he asleep and snoring?’
Vivian had heard that men tend to snore more easily. Take Robert Lowell, for example. He was older, used to have a lot of business dinners, and had a beer belly.
Plus, he’d smoked for years, so his throat was in bad shape. When he slept at night, his snores were like claps of thunder—absolutely terrifying!
Overweight people also seemed to snore more easily than thin people.
’For someone like Julian—lean, with a six-pack—is this soft breathing what counts as a "snore"?’
’If that’s really the case...’
Vivian figured that the problem Sharon Galahad had—not wanting to sleep in the same room as Robert Lowell because his snoring was too loud—probably wouldn’t happen to her.
She was a little lost in thought.
Without even noticing, Vivian turned over and then back again.
...
"What’s wrong?"
Just as Vivian was about to try sleeping on her stomach, the steady breathing beside her stopped.
In the darkness, Vivian heard the rustle of sheets. It seemed Julian had turned over too, and then his voice sounded closer.
’Did he turn toward me?’
Julian asked again, "Can’t sleep?"
His tone was a little soft, the way someone sounds when they’re woken up mid-sleep—gentle and a bit hoarse.
It gave Vivian the startling impression that he would be very easy to... pounce on.
