Vivian Lowell looked at the "cute" emoji Eleanor Rhodes sent her. Completely helpless against her friend’s antics, she had no choice but to send over her location.

On the other end, Eleanor immediately replied with an "OK." She was clearly on her way.

Vivian thought it over. Even though there was a lot going on tonight, Eleanor was an adult who could take care of herself, so Vivian didn’t worry too much.

Meanwhile.

After replying to Vivian, Eleanor opened another chat window and typed, "Don’t worry, President Faulkner. I’m going to keep Vivian company right now!"

After sending the message, Eleanor felt it wasn’t enough and added, "Honestly, you’re something else. You obviously care about Vivian, but you just won’t show it! Sigh!"

Half an hour later.

Inside the hotel’s security room, Vivian was watching the surveillance feeds when a knock sounded at the door.

"Vivian? Vivian?"

Eleanor knocked again. Vivian went over to open the door, and Eleanor poked her head in before stepping inside. "Vivian, what are you doing in here?" she asked.

Eleanor rarely visited places like this, so she was quite curious. After glancing around, her gaze suddenly locked onto one particular monitor.

"What is she doing here?"

Eleanor pointed at a figure on the screen, the color gradually draining from her face until she looked sickly pale.

Surprised by Eleanor’s reaction, Vivian instinctively followed her gaze and looked at the screen.

On the monitor, a stunning woman in a backless, crimson evening gown was walking through the hotel’s main entrance. She was as beautiful as a movie star, exuding an aura of absolute elegance.

Carrying a tiny clutch, she walked with supreme confidence. Several men passing by turned their heads to stare at her, their eyes full of sheer amazement.

She was breathtaking—noble, radiant, and poised.

After a few glances, Vivian realized the woman looked somewhat familiar. Looking closer, she finally recognized her.

It was Wendy Wynn.

No wonder Eleanor recognized her.

Wendy Wynn was Henry Sterling’s ex-girlfriend—the unforgettable first love he had always pined for.

Henry and Wendy had met while studying abroad. They started dating in college and were widely regarded as the campus golden couple, a perfect match in everyone’s eyes.

After graduation, Henry wanted to return home to teach at Aethelburg University. There were also well-known domestic companies extending offers to Wendy, hoping she would return. These domestic companies offered high salaries and excellent room for growth, but Wendy chose to stay abroad.

Henry had hesitated at the time, but his heart was set on returning to do scientific research and contribute to his country. The two had a falling out over their divergent paths, which ultimately led to their breakup and separation.

Rumor had it that shortly after Henry left, Wendy hooked up with the heir of a foreign private enterprise. They were together for three years and had almost gotten married.

Why had Wendy suddenly returned to the country?

Vivian frowned as memories of her past life surfaced.

Come to think of it, Wendy had also returned in her previous life. Vivian just didn’t know exactly when, because she hadn’t attended tonight’s banquet back then.

She only knew that the moment Wendy came back, Henry had gone crazy trying to win her over. However, Wendy’s attitude toward him remained lukewarm.

It was as if Wendy was dangling a hook she knew Henry would bite, luring him in without ever reeling him up, yet refusing to let him swim away.

She was a true Player King, keeping him firmly on the hook.

When Vivian had analyzed the situation and come to that conclusion back then, she felt incredibly conflicted.

Henry himself hadn’t realized it. He probably just thought that since they had been apart for so many years, they simply needed to get reacquainted.

Unfortunately, during that time, just as Vivian had been powerless to help Grandma Faulkner, she had been drowning in the truth of her own parentage and the Lowell family’s heartlessness. She had been living a miserable life herself.

Consequently, she didn’t know much about what had happened between Wendy, Henry, and Eleanor.

But looking at the current situation, Wendy was likely also a native of Aethelburg, or she had done quite well for herself abroad. Coming back, she had arrived just in time for the Lowell family’s banquet to formally welcome Shelly Lowell home. Attending this event was probably her way of quickly reintegrating into the local social circles.

Vivian remained relatively calm.

Snapping back to reality, she tugged gently at Eleanor’s sleeve and said softly, "Tanya, let her come back. It doesn’t matter. They’re already in the past, aren’t they?

"Besides, less than a month after she broke up with Professor Sterling, this woman found someone else and even almost got married. It just goes to show she probably didn’t have much genuine affection for him to begin with.

"Since that’s the case, in terms of sheer feelings, she obviously can’t compare to you, right?"

Hearing this, Eleanor offered a bitter smile.

It was true. When it came to the depth of affection, there was probably no one in the world who could surpass her love for Henry.

But what use was that?

Even if she gave a hundred percent of her devotion, as long as Henry didn’t like her back, it was all pointless. His affection was the deciding factor in everything.

The unattainable was always the most coveted.

Wendy was Henry’s unforgettable first love, a permanent mark on his heart.

Now that Wendy had appeared, Eleanor feared that from this day forward, Henry would never look at her again.

"Tanya."

Seeing Eleanor’s reaction, Vivian’s heart ached for her. "But if they do end up back together, maybe it just means you and Professor Sterling were never meant to be.

"At the very least, you tried. Even if you don’t win his heart, you won’t look back with any regrets.

"Besides! Professor Sterling might be great at scientific research, but his taste in women is just average. Tanya, in my eyes, you are the cutest, kindest girl in the entire world. Professor Sterling would be lucky to have you!

"You deserve the absolute best!"

Vivian’s eyes were filled with determination.

She was no longer the Vivian of her previous life—the one who had been used by the Lowell family, battered and bruised, and ultimately driven to her death.

No matter what, she wouldn’t let her best friend suffer such a miserable fate.

Eleanor was a strong girl.

When she first saw Wendy, she had been caught off guard and felt a flicker of fear. But now, snapping out of it and seeing the look in her best friend’s eyes, she smiled.

"Yeah."

Eleanor hugged Vivian. Her body trembled slightly, but she quickly mustered her courage. "Vivian. I know everything you’re saying is true.

"I like Professor Sterling because he’s a wonderful person. When Wendy wasn’t around, I could pursue him openly. But now that she’s back, if they get back together, I will bow out gracefully.

"As for me, I’m going to become the number one Celestial Castrator in Aethelburg! I’ll see my animal protection efforts through to the end and make sure every stray cat finds a loving home!

"I have huge responsibilities, so I’m not going to drown in a puddle of unrequited love."
