Chapter 11: You’re Fired
Julian Faulkner?
Vivian Lowell was a little shocked when she saw Julian Faulkner standing beside her.
Julian Faulkner’s hands were beautiful—pale and slender. They were the kind of hands that could make thousands of girls swoon if he played the piano.
Now, those same hands were covered in scratches from the kitten and a bleeding bite mark, a shocking sight.
’Why is he here?’
Vivian Lowell looked at Julian Faulkner and Vance Wyatt, and it slowly dawned on her.
’The "decent" president they mentioned... it had to be Julian Faulkner!’
’No way!’
’Could it be? Is Julian Faulkner really connected to the legendary Faulkner Group?’
Vivian Lowell’s thoughts were a mess.
She had just randomly found someone to marry. How did she end up with a young master of the Faulkner Group? No wonder Julian Faulkner could casually drop five hundred million!
And she’d had the audacity to say she would give him all of the Lowell Family’s resources in the jewelry design industry.
Given the Faulkner Family’s resources, Julian probably wouldn’t even spare a glance for what she had to offer.
"..."
Vivian Lowell was only embarrassed for a moment.
Then, a force bumped into her from the side.
The scratched female assistant had come to her senses. Seeing that Julian was hurt, she rushed over in a panic, looked at his wound, and said, "President Faulkner, you’re injured!"
"Should I contact your private doctor right now? It’s all because these two rescuers are so unprofessional! They took forever to save the cat and even got you hurt!"
After speaking, the female assistant turned and shot a fierce glare at Vivian Lowell and Eleanor Rhodes.
That glare snapped Vivian Lowell back to reality. She sneered at the assistant and said, "We already gave you gloves beforehand."
"You were the one who complained the gloves were too thick and refused to wear them. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have jerked your hand away in pain when you were bitten while putting the orange and white cat in the cage."
"And your president wouldn’t have been hurt helping out unprepared."
"Ma’am. Now, who do you think is really responsible for this situation?"
The female assistant nearly choked.
’Those gloves were so dirty! They would have ruined her fresh manicure. Of course she wasn’t going to wear them!’
"President Faulkner!"
Unable to argue with Vivian Lowell, the assistant gave up and turned to Julian Faulkner, looking aggrieved and on the verge of tears. "I didn’t do it on purpose!"
Julian Faulkner finally looked up.
His gaze on Vivian Lowell was profound. Although he was surprised by her sudden appearance, he didn’t think much of it after figuring out what had happened.
Instead—
Julian Faulkner’s eyes fell on Vivian’s hands—which were bare of the clumsy gloves so she could more easily operate the cat-catching pole—and asked, "Are you alright?"
!?
The sudden concern made Vivian Lowell pause for a moment.
"I’m fine," she replied instinctively. Looking into Julian Faulkner’s calm eyes, she couldn’t detect a trace of concern, so she could only say, "President Faulkner, your wound is bleeding."
"Based on our experience, you should disinfect it to avoid infection."
"Mm," Julian Faulkner replied faintly, glancing at Vance Wyatt, likely intending for him to handle the arrangements.
Vance Wyatt understood Julian’s look perfectly and turned to leave.
"Wait." Julian Faulkner suddenly remembered something and called back Vance Wyatt, who had already taken a few steps. He then glanced at the female assistant.
The female assistant, who had been ignored by Julian all this time, had red-rimmed eyes.
When she saw Julian look her way, she was overjoyed, thinking he was about to show concern for her. She quickly held out her own injured hand.
She was showing him that she was hurt too, hoping to get her wound treated alongside him!
But that was clearly not what Julian Faulkner had in mind.
His gaze was icy. After just one glance at the assistant, he said to Vance Wyatt, "Take her away. The Faulkner Group has no need for useless people."
"Yes, sir."
Vance Wyatt’s reply was decisive. He said the female assistant’s name, signaling for her to follow him to HR and process her termination.
"President Faulkner—"
The female assistant froze on the spot, unable to believe what she had just heard. She nearly fell to her knees.
Vivian Lowell watched for a moment and shook her head.
The Faulkner Group was very famous in Aethelburg.
It was famous for its excellent benefits, famous for its nine-to-five schedule that didn’t force employees to work overtime, and famous for paying triple-time for any overtime that was required.
Many students who came to Aethelburg University didn’t dream of studying abroad, but of joining the Faulkner Group!
This assistant looked quite young and probably hadn’t been with the company for long. No wonder she was so devastated that her good days had come to an abrupt end.
"Vivian."
Eleanor Rhodes didn’t want to get involved in matters that didn’t concern her, so she said to Vivian, "It’s about time. Let’s take the cat back to the vet clinic."
"Its eyes look a little matted. I’m not sure if it’s sick, so we should get it checked out."
"Okay."
Vivian Lowell nodded, then glanced back at the wound on Julian Faulkner’s hand. She couldn’t just leave it be. "President Faulkner got hurt helping us."
"I don’t know anything about getting the cat examined anyway, so I’ll stay behind and check on President Faulkner’s injury. Once I’m done here, I’ll meet you back at Aethelburg University for Professor Sterling’s lecture, how about that?"
Eleanor Rhodes nodded.
As the rescuers, they were obligated to help the cat, but since the person who called for help had gotten injured, it was also right for them to offer assistance.
"Go on, and be careful. This President Faulkner seems really cold. If he’s hard to get along with, just buy him the medicine and come back!"
After giving her instructions, Eleanor Rhodes left with the little kitten.
「Fifteen minutes later.」
Vivian Lowell followed Julian Faulkner into the president’s office. Vance Wyatt knocked and entered as well, placed the medicine he’d bought on the desk, and then excused himself.
"..."
Julian Faulkner looked at the medical supplies, then at Vance Wyatt’s departing back, and frowned.
’What’s gotten into Vance?’
’He just bought the medicine and left it here. Does he expect me to apply it myself!?’
’Both of my hands are injured; it’s going to be a pain to clean the wounds!’
"Um, President Faulkner." Vivian saw Vance Wyatt give her a meaningful look before he left, apparently hoping she would help Julian apply the medicine.
Suddenly, Vivian remembered the question Vance Wyatt had asked her earlier in the elevator.
"Excuse me, are you Miss Lowell, Vivian Lowell?" When Vance Wyatt had asked, he seemed very anxious, his eyes a mixture of nervousness and excitement.
Vivian had been baffled.
’I’m not a celebrity or an internet influencer, so why would Vance Wyatt know who I am?’
Though confused, Vivian had still nodded.
Instantly, Vance Wyatt had become even more excited, as if he were looking at the boss’s wife and wanted nothing more than to curry favor with her.
!!!
Vivian hadn’t understood before.
Now, she did.
Vance Wyatt definitely knew about her relationship with Julian Faulkner!
