King of Hollywood

Chapter 9: Continue Shooting and Hosting

“Well done, Gary. Now there's good news and bad news. Which one are you going to listen to first?” Behind the monitor, Adrian raised his head and watched Lieutenant Dan play Gary on the set? Sinis said out loud.

“Hmm...” Sinis swept around and shrugged, “What about the good news? ”

“The good news is that you look great, and I'm glad.” Adrian smiled.

“What about the bad news?” Hanks, standing next to Sinis, asked first.

“The bad news is that my tech advisor told me that the blue material wrapped around your leg is not cut in place, so we have to do this again.” Adrian spread his hand up, suddenly moaning.

What is being filmed is the wedding of Agan and Jenny at the end of Agan Zhengzheng, where Lieutenant Dan comes with his fiancée, the first and only meeting between the two most important people in Agan's life, Jenny and Lieutenant Dan.

In this scenario, Adrian remembered a comment saying that the two north-south views of the United States represented even some extremes, shaking hands because of Agan.

Jenny represents, undoubtedly, the young people of the sixties and seventies of the United States, who were portrayed as a fallen generation, addicted to drugs, * *, radical, yearning for freedom, desiring to be noticed despite all their outstanding personalities; and Lieutenant Dan represents those who are conservative, traditional, and do not want to change, such as those who think they should die on the battlefield, rather than become disabled.

Ultimately, they lost their life goals, lost their confidence in life, objected to the simplest view of life Agan, no matter what happened, bearing in mind the words of their mother, always insisted on running forward, but achieved successes that others could not have, which, in contrast, were ironic and profound.

So Agan Zhengzheng is a complete American melody film, and although Agan is a fictional figure, he is considered by many to be the representative of the American dream: if you work hard, you can succeed.

As many of you know, the American dream is, to a large extent, a painting cake. Yeah, like Steve? Of course there are people like Jobs who came out of nowhere and succeeded -- and that's why Agan invested in a computer company that sells apples -- but more like Bill? Guys like Gates are capable and connected. Not even a hundred thousandths of a person who starts out completely on his own will succeed unless the standards are lowered.

But giving hope is always better than not giving anything, and that's why Adrian appreciates Oscar's willingness, even if the Film Academy is somewhat conservative and not so fair. Just look at the best movies of every season and you'll find that the vast majority of movies, no matter how dark and negative the overall story is, always have bright colors of encouragement and hope. For example, in the American Beauty for a few years, many people said that the film had stripped the middle-class American of its bright foreskin, but the phrase "I'm proud of my small life” after Linus' death had elevated the whole theme.

So a completely black movie like The Seven Sins may be brilliant, but it will never get the best Oscar movie. Large media groups in a country, propaganda is necessarily a mainstream value point, both in the United States and in the country where Adrian lived in his previous life, but it took years for China to understand that it was on the right track, and the propaganda work was unbearable.

There are many reasons why Americans are more familiar with the system, more familiar with how to integrate their values into the story, and influence people's submerged acquiescence, such as Agan Zheng, which Adrian is filming.

In addition, the power of culture and some institutional things are among the reasons, but some idiots among Chinese filmmakers are also the reason, as a past life in that circle, and Adrian, who relies on innate advantages to breathe rain in Hollywood today, is perfectly qualified to put the word idiot on some people's heads.

Well, let's not talk about it, but come back to the set. Lt. Dan, played by Gary Sinis, lost his legs in Vietnam, so his legs could not be shown outside during the shooting. Usually it's easy to sit in a wheelchair and hide his legs underneath, but at the scene of Agan's wedding, he walks with a cane and rolls up his pants and legs to show Agan his titanium prosthetic limbs. In this way, his calf must be wrapped in a special blue fabric and then removed in its entirety and replaced with prosthetic limbs at a later stage of fabrication, so the blue fabric must be just right and not have a slight problem.

Fortunately, after shooting it again, and then shooting it again to keep it on standby, Alabama's scenes were almost as good as they were, with pieces of footage and places that needed to be replenished.

Before Adrian left, he gave some less important footage to Deputy Director Richard? Ryan's in charge, and he's doing pretty good, except for a few shots. For example, when Jenny first came back to Agan, they came near Jenny's original home on a wild stroll, remembering all the past. Jenny picked up a stone and smashed it over the house, and finally fell on the floor crying low. This shot, Adrian, was originally meant to be shot from the bottom up, showing a feeling of heaven and height as a reflection of Jane's emptiness and loss at the moment.

Ryan did this, but the shot wasn't as good as Adrian's, so he thought about it and decided to retake it. Luckily, Agan had to push down the shots of the cabin after Jenny left, so he could still use it. Although it's okay to push it down, it's only a few days to build a scene, but why not use it?

“You've been doing great before, Linda, so just taste what it felt like.” Adrian is with the actress Linda right now? Dylan's asking, Tom? Hanks stood beside him.

Linda, 25? Dylan is just a Hollywood second-line actor, and the acting is pretty good, and he's pretty sure about Jenny. Because the women around Adrian were not suitable for the role, he had chosen an actor at random, and Rachel came to the door two weeks after the shoot.

Yes, the drug addict that Rachel was talking about, the image of * *, was exactly Jenny in Agan Zheng. While it's a little strange to have a British woman play a typical American woman, Adrian believes that if Rachel plays well, she can't play the flavor. After all, he knew her very well, it was not difficult to guide her in this role, and when she said that Rachel was narrow in the play, it was not threatening to be alarming. She was really suitable for any kind of curly female role, but it was easy to limit herself if she played too much, then it was not easy to change, which was essentially the same as the transformation of youth idols.

“Yes, Mr. Director, I understand.” Linda nodded and stepped aside to start brewing emotions.

Adrian turned to Hanks, who had nothing to do with Hanks, just patted him on the shoulder, cut his flat head and wore a blue and white plaid shirt and white trousers. Hanks, dressed as standard Agan, laughed and didn't speak.

Admittedly, as an actor, Tom? Hanks is indeed very good, he pinched it just right for Agan's feelings, very little from the start of the shoot to now ng, so Adrian doesn't have to worry at all.

As the baffle slammed down, the scene was silent for a moment, Linda, who played Jenny, suddenly picked up a stone from the ground and threw it like a vent into the cabin, one or two... Finally, she slipped under her feet and fell to the ground, then drowned her head to cry, and Agan, who played Hanks, held her up silently.

Jenny is also a woman with dreams, unfortunately she was hurt by her father from the beginning, and Agan's lines have become clear: his father is very loving and always caresses her with kindness. What this means, domestic violence or something deeper, is that the audience understands itself. In short, Jenny, who had been badly hurt since childhood, had developed a rebellious personality and was willing to prove herself and find her way.

But the more so, the deeper the injury, and eventually she stood on the balcony staring out at the city's lights. Fortunately, in Alabama, there was another man who had always loved her, from beginning to end, so Jenny finally came down from the balcony. But she was still confused, even back to Alabama and back to Agan until...

“Although I'm not smart, I know what love is.” Agan said with some grudge and some sadness.

At this moment, Jenny finally understood Agan's feelings for her, so she had the story behind her.

This shot was so perfect that both Linda and Hanks stopped by applause. After these pieces of footage are processed, Erwell Township's play is almost over, and then the crew moves to Montgomery, Alabama's second largest city, to film part of the city's play. With Agan's university outlook, with Jenny's school outlook for girls, and most importantly, Agan sits on a bench and tells his story to every passenger waiting for a car.

The original versions were taken in different locations, including North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. But Adrian believes that since these stories happen in Alabama, they should be filmed in Alabama. Anyway, as long as you look for it, there's more than one place to shoot it, and the scenery for it is easy to arrange.

“Well done, ma'am, thank you for your help.” At a t-shaped street in Montgomery, Adrian said so to a young black woman that she was a temporary actor and the first person to talk when Agan waited for the car.

Adrian has never had a professional actor for these characters, and according to him, it would be more appropriate for the locals to perform, so as to blend in with the local atmosphere.

“Thank you so much, Mr. Adrian.” The woman named Jeanne thanked Adrian with excitement, and then spoke to Hanks with emotion. Unfortunately, she was a fan of Hanks and a very enthusiastic kind, and unfortunately, until now, everyone found this, Jeanne was really patient.

And of course, this kind of thing gave Hanks a headache, and Adrian called the director's assistant Ray: "Ray, what about the middle-aged guy I need, who's a little fat and bald? ”

“Sorry, director, we're not sure which one is right yet, maybe you can take a look?” Ray said with a bitter face, "How can it be so easy to find the right one if you want to find it locally, if you have to have a performance experience, and if you have rules for the image of a person?

“Well, let me take a look.” Adrian frowned and said so.

Ray quickly grabbed the information, quickly turned it over and no one was fit, Adrian frowned deeper.

“Let's film the old lady's play first.” Charlize, who had been around him, suddenly said so.

Adrian silenced for a few seconds, looked at Charlize, looked at Ray again, and said yes. He also knew that it was not easy to find a temporary actor with good acting skills. But that's when Hanks, out of trouble, walked over and said, "I have an idea, Ed. ”

“Do you have an idea?” Adrian looked at him unexpectedly.

“Yes,” Hanks nodded, smiling a little cunning, completely unlike the thick Agan.

“How about you play the part?” That's what he said.

“Am I coming?” Adrian smoked in the corner of his mouth. “I think there's something wrong with you, Tommy, what I'm asking is...”

“Come on, Ed, the script doesn't say if this guy's tall or short or fat or thin, why can't you just string him up?” Hanks said in his spare time, then suddenly clapped his hands up without waiting for Adrian to answer. The crew, as well as some of the people watching the show, immediately looked at him.

“Hey guys, I have a proposition...” Hanks laughed out loud, repeating the previous proposition and emphasizing the reason, "... Ed is the director, he obviously knows better than we do what the story is trying to say, and we all know that he was a guest in The Old Friends and it worked great, so don't worry about his acting at all. So why can't you lighten up his character? What do you think? ”

By the time Hanks clapped his hands, Adrian had figured out what he wanted to do, but he couldn't stop it. Besides, even if it stopped this time, Hanks could have stopped it the next time, couldn't he? So why don't you let him say it and press it down yourself?

But Adrian made two mistakes: first, he underestimated Hanks' ability to incite; and second, he overestimated his prestige. Just as he coughed up and wanted to talk, Hanks clapped his hands and shouted, "Ed Ed.”

At first, only a few actors clapped with Hanks and shouted. Slowly, the other staff also added. Later, even Ray standing next to Adrian stopped quickly after he glanced at him, but ran aside and started clapping again.

At one point, the screams and claps of "Ed” and “Ed” fluctuated, leaving other people in the streets unattended. Adrian grinned and swept at them, looking at Charlize around her, she turned her head to the side of them without clapping her hands and shouting, like, "I don't know anything."

“Okay, all right," Adrian had to raise his hands and calm them down again, I'm afraid I won't be filming again today, "I said to the guest list, okay, guys? I said yes. Are you happy now? ”

The whole crew thundered.

“I think I should change my style of coaching, be tougher, be more unquestionable, don't you think, Matthew?” Adrian looked at himself in the mirror and said to the makeup artist who was playing on his face.

“I think it's good now.” Matthew said with a smile.

“Good? If I'm not too temperamental, how dare you?” Adrian complained.

“That means everybody likes you, Ed.” Matthew tried to make his face look serious, "and if everyone didn't like you, how could he follow you? ”

“Ha, you finally admit you're up?” Adrian said immediately.

“Well, Ed, why don't you ask Matthew to put on your makeup as soon as possible, and we can't finish today.” Charlize, sitting next to him, said in disgust.

Adrian glanced at her, hummed and finally stopped talking. Matthew had to look at Charlize, but quickly regained his gaze and concentrated on wearing makeup for the director.

After half a day, Adrian finally packed up and did Hanks, or Forrest? Next to Gan. He was wearing a grey suit, something underneath his stomach made him look a little blessed, and his makeup face seemed to be old for years, turning from a young man to a middle-aged man.

“I never thought I'd play with the Oscars one day.” Adrian said after reading the lines a few times.

“But I'm sure you know that one day you'll be directing the Oscar Shadow.” Hanks smiled back.

“That's true.” Adrian shrugged his shoulders, made a "can start” gesture to the deputy director, then took a deep breath and prepared for Hanks.

Although he is confident that there will be no big problem, after all, he did well in the previous series of "Old Friends". The survey feedback after the episode aired also showed that the audience was satisfied, but could be vice director Richard? Ryan shouted, and he started breathing ten times in a row.

This is a very simple shot, which is that after telling his story in Vietnam, Adrian, who plays Pathfinder II, asks in a curious tone, "That's a bullet, right? The one who jumped up and bit your ass. ”

In a very simple sentence, God knows why Adrian's performance just didn't pass, not only does the deputy director think so, but Adrian has the same opinion after looking at the camera.

“I told you, I'm not a professional actor," Adrian said, half angry, half depressed.
