Chapter 253 - 201: Come to the Northern Lands and Slay Aliens
’Huh? Why don’t I have some Civil Servants undergo Overlord Training?’
Henry Mawston had a sudden epiphany, like a clogged drain in his mind had instantly cleared.
Henry opened his Overlord Panel and saw he still had one "Overlord Training point" left. ’Should I train a New Recruit Team composed of Civil Servants?’
No sooner said than done. For Henry, being on his own fiefdom was no different from playing on a private server anyway.
Henry immediately summoned all the Civil Servants in his vicinity, just barely scraping together one hundred and twenty people.
Standing on the high platform of the barracks’ training ground, Henry’s gaze swept over the assembled Civil Servants below. He took in all their hushed whispers and uneasy expressions.
His sudden summons had made them panic, but he offered no further explanation.
The murmur of conversation among the Civil Servants rose and fell, filling the air with a tense and curious atmosphere.
They exchanged glances, trying to find answers on one another’s faces.
"What do you guys think? Why did the lord summon us so suddenly?"
"Who knows? I’ve been on my best behavior lately, I haven’t dared violate a single one of the fiefdom’s laws," a nearby Civil Servant replied.
"Me too. I can guarantee my books are squeaky clean, without a single error," another Civil Servant chimed in, a hint of pride in his voice.
"The lord wouldn’t summon us for no reason. It must be for something important."
"Could he be giving us a raise? Or announcing a new policy?"
"Don’t be silly. If it were good news, would everyone be this nervous?"
"I think he’s probably going to assign us new tasks, or maybe conduct an evaluation."
"Whatever it is, as long as our consciences are clear, we have nothing to fear."
The hushed whispers of the Civil Servants below continued. Their voices were low, but they sounded exceptionally clear in the enclosed training ground.
From time to time, their eyes darted toward Henry on the platform, trying to read his expression for answers.
At that moment, Henry’s gaze was fixed on his Overlord Panel, his brow deeply furrowed.
His focus drifted over the new recruit training section on the Overlord Panel before him. The number "120" was clearly displayed, and beside it, his remaining Overlord Training points—enough to initiate one training session for an "Imperial New Recruit Team."
However, when his gaze fell upon the confirmation button, he found it was grayed out and unclickable.
’Just as I thought,’ Henry mused. ’The panel is more sophisticated than I expected. It obviously won’t let me use non-combat personnel for new recruit training.’
His eyes wandered over the panel as his mind raced, considering other possibilities.
Suddenly, a thought flashed through his mind.
’Huh? Could I re-class combat personnel into administrative staff in the future?’
Henry’s eyes lit up. In war, there would always be soldiers who were wounded and had to retire. Many of them were no longer suited for frontline combat, but letting them sit idle or become warehouse guards was undoubtedly a waste of human resources.
Their loyalty to the domain and their ability to execute orders were unquestionable, which would make them an excellent addition to the fiefdom’s administrative system.
A slight smile touched Henry’s lips. He already had the beginnings of an idea.
He would select individuals with potential from among the retired soldiers, provide them with the necessary administrative training, and turn them into a new force for managing the domain.
It would be a long-term process requiring patience and meticulous planning, but he was ready.
Henry’s gaze shifted away from the Overlord Panel. He took a deep breath, then raised his head to face the Civil Servants below.
"I know you have many questions about why I’ve summoned you here at this time.
I have very high expectations for your abilities and your loyalty. I have been observing you, and I see the work each and every one of you does.
Your efforts will not be in vain. Those who perform exceptionally will be given opportunities for promotions and salary increases.
I don’t need you to be heroes on the battlefield, but I do need you to be the pillars of my fiefdom. Your work is just as important. Your wisdom and diligence are the cornerstones of our domain’s prosperity.
So, continue to work hard, continue to display your talents. I will not forget anyone who contributes to this domain."
Having said his piece, Henry didn’t linger. He turned and left the training ground, leaving a crowd of Civil Servants behind, their expressions shifting from initial bewilderment to anticipation.
Who cared what this was all about? Henry had just said there would be opportunities for promotions and raises!
Tommy stood in the crowd, watching Henry’s retreating figure with mixed feelings.
He didn’t know what deeper meaning was hidden behind this sudden move from Henry.
’Does Henry want the Civil Servants to know that *he* is the master of this fiefdom, and not me, his Civil Servant?’
Tommy mused to himself, knowing this was a common tactic used by nobles to consolidate their own authority and status.
"Sir Civil Servant, what are you thinking about?" a nearby official asked, interrupting Tommy’s thoughts.
Tommy snapped out of his reverie, shaking his head with a smile. "It’s nothing. I was just thinking that our lord carries himself more and more like a true leader."
His voice carried a hint of sincere admiration, filled with trust and respect for Henry.
